    For the longest time I insisted on the conventional deadlift. Then someone said asked me why? Are you competing in powerlifting? I wasn't, I just want to be strong. So I tried the trap bar and fell in love with it.

      That's exactly what we say to clients when teaching the benefits of the hex bar!

      I use both and I would recommend you do as well. The standard deadlift adds extra mass and power overall, while the trap bar allows for hitting other muscles in the chain at a stronger level. Using both is the best bet. I absolutely LOVE the hex bar, it's such an amazing tool added to the arsenal. I actually just bought one to add to my home gym, I just want people to understand it's not a true replacement for the standard deadlift , or even the standard shrug.
      Please my friend, continue to do both. These bars and newer equipment are amazing and ads so much to our training, just don't see then as replacements.

      @@beentheredonethat5908nah it’s similar muscles for both. There is more quad activation in trap bar deadlifts and more lower back activation in conventional. But both variations (and sumo as well) hit hammies, glutes, quads and spinal erectors.

    I have two herniated discs. Dead lifts are very hard for me to execute and I'm afraid to hurt myself even more. Then I started to renovate my house and kept bringing demolished walls and stones etc outside in two buckets, left and right. My back got so much better and I realized I'm basically doing deadlifts in the hex bar position. It works a lot better for me. I guess it's because the balancing point is a little bit further back and my lower back (I have a long torso and short legs, am 2m / 6'6) has to endure less leverage.

    By far the most underrated bar at my gym. It collects dust in some corner and I am the only one using it lol. I dislike the classic deadlift because of the grip that makes no sense and the bar might contact your shins and eventually presses on your thighs, hex bar prevents all that crap.

      @Jamie L. ... if you’re feeling it on your lower back doing the regular barbell deadlift, then you’re doing the movement incorrectly unfortunately (not enough leg drive, not bracing your torso hard). Deadlift are first and foremost a leg exercise. It sucks that so many teach the deadlift movements as a "pull" when it should be taught as a leg push movement. Yes, it actually makes a major difference in how your muscles feel during the movement. Imagine deadlifting a completely empty barbell - you don’t ever "pull" the barbell. Instead, you keep your upper torso tight (keep the barbell in contact with your legs through out the movement), and push with your legs from the start and continue to push with your legs all the way to lockout. Lift with your legs, not with your back. Whenever I feel it in my lower back during/after a deadlift session, I know I completely messed up on my form/technique. Continue to use the trapbar because it definitely helps ingrain the actually deadlift movement pattern (leg drive, leg drive and more leg drive) that you’re suppose to use/do during the regular conventional deadlift.
      I decided to incorporate the hexbar/trap bar deadlift recently into my routine in addition to my standard conventional & sumo deadlifts, and my landmine leg exercises.
      Side note: also look up landmine exercise; lots of variety with one piece of equipment as well.

      HybridFitness yep! The other benefit I noticed was that I don’t need nearly as much warmup time to get started. I have a 6 month old son, so my home workouts need to be as quick and efficient as possible.. With a traditional deadlift, I would need a ton of time just to open up my ankle and hip mobility to handle the forward center of gravity. With a hex bar I’m good to go with just a minute or two of simple stretching. Also much easier for bands! I don’t need a deadlift platform and hooks, just loop it around both ends, step on the band, and viola.

    I've been looking all over trying to find someone who can explain what the difference is between a hexbar deadlift and a hexbar squat. I know you don't have an example of a hexbar squat here but I've looked at several lifters doing hexbar squats and DL's and I don't see much difference between the two. Is it just me?

    • @HybridFitness
      @HybridFitness  6 лет назад +4

      The main difference between a squat and dead lift is that a squat is more knee dominant and the deadlift is more hip dominant. Does that make sense?

    • @girlsdrinkfeck
      @girlsdrinkfeck 5 лет назад +1

      hexbsr deadlift and squat are what the name suggests lol ,instead of dumbells down the side of ya body doing DB squat or deadlift u got weights on a central bar

    • @rflair
      @rflair 5 лет назад +1

      Its because a lot of people who squat do 'power lifters' squat; it is not a squat by definition and looks very much like a deadlift. Olympic/ATG squats fit the technical definition of the word squat and look nothing like a deadlift.

      Deadlifting with the hex bar is otherwise known as hack squatting. Before the actual hack squat machine was made lifters would use a conventional deadlifting bar and do a behind the back deadlift. They called it the hack squat because the majority of the load was put onto your quads and upper back instead of the lower back and hamstrings. Then the hex bar came along and was very similar to doing a behind the back deadlift because the hex bar takes the weight off your lower back and you mainly feel it in your quads, so sometimes you will hear people calling a hex bar deadlift a “hack squat”

I do not like any kind of traditional barbell dead lift or straight leg barbell deadliftbecause my form is always slightly off and I hurt my lower back a lot besides I am not in it for competition. Ironically, the barbell dl is mechanically inferior. It's strange that it is the accepted variation. I've spent years dragging the bar up my shins thinking I was some hardcore strength god. Putting unnecessary strain on my lumbar spine. Like another comment stated, I don't compete. There's no reason to barbell dl with trap bars available. You will have to get an expensive version like rogue when you reach heavier weight as these common trap bars can only hold about 3 plates a side.
    Also, I noticed he deadlifts on the higher handles. This makes it easier instead of flipping the bar over and using the lower grips. But this is another benefit of the trap bar as you can practice a heavier weight with the "cheat bars" until you can lift from the proper deadlift handle height.

    @HybridFitness Hi, at min. 1:40 you shown a deadlift and at min. 4:51 a military press, so two complete different ways to how maintain the trap bar (down or up):
    *I am trying to reach the way to do the squat exercise with trap bar, do you think what position of them is better?*
    Moreover, did not you show a Trap bar's squat because you do not suggest this exercise with this item definetly? If yes, why? We tall people have huge difficulties with barbells unfortunately, as you just aware about it sure.
    Thank you and greetings from Italy.

    • @HybridFitness
      @HybridFitness  4 года назад +1

      I would say that the low position is better for it. As far as the squat and the deadlift with the trap bar goes, they are pretty similar. Just the angles of the knees and hips are different.
