I couldn't agree more, why the hell wouldn't they build a GMC version of the ZR2 instead of this glorified appearance package? It's a damn shame, because the canyon is the better looking truck by a lot, to me. I love those wheels, I'd have to get a set of them if I had a Colorado/Canyon from this generation. I have custom gunmetal powdercoated Colorado Xtreme wheels on my 2012 5.3L/4.10:1 extended cab Z71 Colorado, looks awesome. I like to use cool factory parts if I can. Everyone has aftermarket stuff, well thought out factory swappage is cooler to me. Anyway, come on, GM: Build a GMC ZR2! You did it in the S10 days with the Sonoma Highrider, how hard could it be?!
Completely agree. The Colorado and canyon are well past due for a complete refresh. Seems like GM just ignored them and focused their attention on redesigning the Silverado/Sierra and yukon and Tahoe.
Just returned from 3 hour drive in my AT-4. New double rubber seals around door including better side glass window sound deadening makes this truck very quiet inside. I opted for the standard stereo with no optional Nav/Bose system. I want a Garmen nav. Stock sound system does okay for me. I had LED-don’t care if I ever have them again. I have since studied what and why LED causes driver fatigue. Moving on. I bought the AT-4 because I now have so many options to upgrade suspension the ZR does not. I am fine with 31 inch tire. My needs/expectations amount too wilderness exploration not rock crawling. Two track dirt roads, climbing steep grades negotiating washouts is what I need in my truck. No after market bumper, no winch, only Matt Tracks and pull strap. At 65 I’m keeping my list of onboard gear as light, easy peasy as I can. If, my eye’s don’t like the terrain ahead. I’m done. Hike- Or go back. I don’t run with anybody else because most are too lazy to get off their lazy asses and get away from the TV’s and such. Not installing any additional lighting on this truck either. By 3 or 4 PM, this old farts down, got his camp setup taking a snooze. I wear a wonderful HeadLamp that does everything I need in my camp, as well as my truck if I must exit for any reason during hours of darkness (Rarely). I laugh at all the whizz-bang $$$ wasters mounting expensive (Expedition Trucks) LED area lighting only to simulate city atmosphere they supposedly left behind. Using the RED lamp only preserves the nigh vision very well. Also, RED reflects big four legged critters eyes lurking nearby your camp. After 50 years with Jeep two doors. I really enjoy the pulling power the truck offers. Both seats offer electric adjustments, both offer electric lumbar adjustment. Drivers seat has ability to raise driver up well over two inches making off-road terrain easier to view. We were going to order a 2021 Toyota TRD PRO. But, at our age, in addition to saving ourselves $10,000 we bought the GMC AT4 as I am happy “as is for now” until I can get it out in the Mojave Desert to work the suspension a bit hard and see what does or does not satisfy my bum. Because some people don't want or need a ZR2 but may want something with a better tow rating that is still capable of going off road. Similar to the people that would buy an FX4 over a Raptor.
Roger J you can’t really compare a FX4 to a Raptor though, you can buy a FX4 a whole lot cheaper than a Raptor. Before it’s all said and done,(prices aren’t out yet) the AT4 Canyon will be close to ZR2 prices.
To have an off-road package that still tows 7700lbs (instead of 5000 with the ZR2). But I get your point, I would still like to have e-lockers front and rear and anything really "new" as part of this new AT4 trim.

Aren't the 4X4 and off-road capabilities of the Canyon AT4 exactly the same as the current Canyon All Terrain? This really is just an appearance package, and a very mild one at that. Can't wait to see how they skimp on any meaningful updates for the announced 2021 Canyon Denali (I'm betting the real wood ash trim is the only real change to it).

Its essentially the All Terrain from earlier years. I have a 2016 Canyon All Terrain and it's the same damn truck minus the new grille/bumper and it's called the AT4 now and no more lower air dam
It's literally the exact same package as my 2015 canyon all terrain. Thought there was gunna be more of an update to the at4 then just a massive grill.....
I know a lot of people don’t like this truck and I for one am more a Ford or Ram guy but i actually think this truck is still worth buying for someone who likes to go offroad but doesn’t need to do baja jumps. Still a strong engine and good transmission. Could use an update but overall still a good vehicle in my opinion
This is almost identical in features to a Z71 guys. My Z71 has hill decent control, G80 rear locker, even the exact same V6 badge....same skids... 17 inch alloys, I guess I just need to paint my tow hooks red? And Mine is a 2017.
I wish they made the front end headlamps and styling a bit more like the new Acadia with a little bit more interior updates as well. That would have sold me on it.
It looks good but the only issue i see is that there is no front bumper its all plastic up front so if you were to go off road with it the second you hit a rock or somthing with the front end you have broken plastic other then that the truck looks good
Looking at this thing, apparently there was no money left after the Corvette and Full Size SUV redesigns. I’m sure the redesign will address the complaints
as a 2017 Colorado Z71 owner I'm really dissapointed in this release, I had high hopes that they actually updated this truck. This looks almost identical to my truck on the inside.
@MotorcycleMan the way this car looks has nothing to do with where it's built. That grille is going to look ridiculous and tacky if it was built from sea to sea.
MotorcycleMan : Whether a Mexican took the job or not has nothing to do with the building materials or quality of the vehicle. Even if you DID take the job from that hard working mexican, at least they’d do a better job than you because you obviously don’t work if you’re complaining about a simple plant job being taken away from by some “Mexican” 😂
Well it needs a 2" front-rear lift like the 1500 to be complete. Does look like a sierra front stuck on it, but i like my sierra front so i like it. Id like to see the 2.7L turbo added to the engine line.
I was hoping they would offer the 2.7 turbo from the full size line in this. I have a feeling it costs more to build than the V6 and they figure it would have a low take rate, even if it were a $500 option. I'd buy it though. I like the new grill, I liked the old one too. Without much else updated I don't see a reason to buy new over used. They finally have cocco/Dune available in the Denali, that would be worth getting.
@5:05 just pause it and imagine it's overheating...All kidding aside, didn't these trucks have AT problems? I'd consider owning one but need reliability and low sticker price.
The large front grill really improves the looks! They should have updated the headlights though. I'm not sure why anyone expected it be like a zr2 though. I could have told you that it wouldn't!
I have a 2019 GMC Canyon All Terrain-x and it’s literally the same thing..... interior and exterior. I honestly think the all terrain looks better without the reused Sierra front end.
This truck looks sweet. The new grille design is significantly more aggressive to me. That being said I'm still sitting here waiting for an all new midsize from GM after 6 (apparently going to be 7) years.
literally just left my dealer and there are 2 of these for sale in ontario. Both are 46 grand canadian. Cant factory order one. No alocations coming anytime soon. Want one... cant get one. The 2 available are 200kms from me and cant be dealer traded. Annoying
I had high hopes that this would be a real updated model and not just a minor refresh. Minor outside and basically nothing inside. Not a very bright move in my mind as the competition is heating up.
Yeah I can make my 2017 Colorado Work Truck look nice and put black out on it and redline edition rims and script on it. I'm still a GM guy, just wish more pride and detail were in cars today like back in the 50's. This is coming from a 27 year old.
I like that front end, but the rest is too similar to be worth the probably $5k extra they'll ask for over the Denali. The Canyon MTB seems to be kind of a shot at the Tacoma though
As of March 20, 2020 I read they are dropping the Base models. Thats fine for most people but they lost me as a future customer! I just need a box to haul and delete the 4x4
Great video/review TLF, as always. Disappointed in what GM has provided today. How many more years until they actually complete an entire overhaul as this truck is extremely outdated and I’m sure the sales will show.
Thank you, fellows. Good work. I will stick to full size pickups for comfort and interior storage, even though the full size does lack some efficiencies of the midsize trucks as configured.

Annoying
BMW: we have the biggest grills
GMC: hold my beer
The volume is too low to hear on my cellphone?
I'd love to see a GMC CANYON DENALI VS JEEP GLADIATOR OVERLAND COMPARISON
I had high hopes that this would be a real updated model and not just a minor refresh. Minor outside and basically nothing inside. Not a very bright move in my mind as the competition is heating up.
what focus groups is GM using to design this crap? badging, tires, red tow hooks..........looks like a kids toy
unsub Apparently TFL loves it, “badass tires, awesome tow hooks, really nice badging...”
Lol TFLcar loves everything they review they make money off our views
Yeah I can make my 2017 Colorado Work Truck look nice and put black out on it and redline edition rims and script on it. I'm still a GM guy, just wish more pride and detail were in cars today like back in the 50's. This is coming from a 27 year old.
Looks more like a 2013...
Even when I was graduating high school I wouldn't even look at this.. lol
That's because that's what it is. This truck has been sold internationally as the Holden Colorado/Isuzu Dmax since 2012.
Fail! They just slapped a bigger uglier grill and tires and called it a day
Which would you choose, GMC Canyon AT4 or Ford Ranger?
Guys,, be sure to test your Mic placement before recording.. Tommy, I have my volume way up and you are still hard to hear.
Nice looking truck guys , I was just up in Vail a couple of weeks ago.
Same as my 2016 all terrain change the front, add head rest and front skid plate very disappointing
Great video/review TLF, as always. Disappointed in what GM has provided today. How many more years until they actually complete an entire overhaul as this truck is extremely outdated and I’m sure the sales will show.
The answer is a very clear and obvious no.
I don’t get the hate but I’m digging this trim , sure there’s the zr2 but the zr2 doesn’t come with a long bed
Those Altezza tailights are beyond outdated
youngblood23rb they are terrible!
@@first6982 My goodness I would fire the designer in a heartbeat
Thank you, fellows. Good work. I will stick to full size pickups for comfort and interior storage, even though the full size does lack some efficiencies of the midsize trucks as configured.
