It is one of the treasures of my childhood I related just as much back then as I do now That's why I love it so much You couldn't tell me Puff was not real when I was little I would scream to differ 😂 I still feel the same but I don't scream about it anymore 😂
Had this on VHS as a kid and played it back to back. My poor mom probably wanted to destroy it back then lol. So nice to watch this again after so many years, and it's still as wonderful! ❤❤
I sang the song in high school and it touched my heart. I wrote puff the magic dragon as a movie for Disney. And for the voice of puff I loved for Khalid Abdallah as the voice of puff and gabby Douglas to voice Jackie paper
Watching this while smoking is crazy especially since this was my absolute favourite movie when I was little and I haven’t watched it in probably a decade
Wow, it is WEIRD recognizing Puff's voice as that of Burgess Meredith after all these years. WAH! WAH! WAH! WAH!🐧 "I'm going to borrow your living thing inside you and place it inside Jackie Paper." He's gonna rip out your heart! Run, Jackie!! 6:45 - "We'll just ignore your decaying husk for now."
Yep, this is probably how the special looked during the animation process. The ugly urine-colors probably occurred when the special was transferred from film to videotape for airing, most likely for its' initial airing in 1978.
If you can make it look this good with only another YT video as the source, imagine what could be done with the original master tape or even the negatives!
I'm not going to be one of *those* people claiming television isn't what it used to be and today's stuff is garbage compared with stuff from the past. That self delusion nonsense is going to get you sent to The Land of Living Lies if you don't watch out. What I will say is that this special is exceptional. It doesn't treat you with kid gloves. There are some genuinely disturbing images and ideas the young viewer has to get through. It's like you're sailing alongside Puff and Jackie on their voyage of growth. To this day, adult me can't decide whether Puff really needed to be saved or was just giving Jackie his final exam. That 70s over-the-top, hyper-surrealistic, everything-is-alive styling IS something constrained to the past. Maybe for a good reason. I wouldn't get within a branch's grasp of that creepy, tongue protruding tree 👀
Certainly looks a lot better than the version that's been out on DVD anyway. I don't know why they haven't gotten around to doing another transfer of this.
+Christopher Sobieniak Yeah; you'd think for the special's 30th anniversary last decade they would've taken the time to do a remastered transfer of the special for a new DVD release. Well, we can pray they will do it for the 40th in 2018...
Well, puff, as far as Fancy Stuff, I gotta cell phone. A tablet and laptop. I also have some booze in my apartment.... But, I'm just an old lady with nostalgia... Never Mind Me... ;-)
So Burgess Merideth was the voice of Puff! Now I know Mick and Penguin did the dragons 🐉 voice! I always feel sad when they sang Weave Me a Sunshine bc you know it’s over
lol The horns, astro projection, post sticking out in front of the “dragon” dancing toward kid. duck face above bed that changes. skull & bones island, cherry pie - vir .gin. ity loss, creme pies seriously! clouds are jealous of fallen star- monarch butterfly- gov programming
This is essentially an infomercial about medical cannabis and I love it 🥰 grew up watching this as a kid my parents wonder how I ended up the way I did 😂💨
Maybe to you, but at the time, and in the eyes of the authors and creators, it was about a boy who overcame his fears and learned that he had the strength to face life’s challenges. He does this even when times get tough and the challenges seem impossible. And his inner strength and bravery inspire others to do the same. The friends he makes on his journey end up helping him when he most needs it. While some people may need to take medicine in order to overcome a crippling disability or sickness, this story transcends any one particular treatment modality or particular drug. We can all draw strength from lessons little Jackie Draper learns on his journey. If it were simply about weed, it would indicate the use and then cessation of use, once insight is gained, or a breakthrough is made.
It’s astonishing that a tv special from the late 70s touches on social anxiety and depression in such a sympathetic way.
This should be considered one of the treasures of humanity.
❤️ you 88

This one hits the nostalgia hard. ‘Weave Me the Sunshine’ is such a great song 😄

same, my tape mysteriously disappeared one day sadly and i think that is maybe what happened to it.
I haven't seen this since I was 5 or 6. I'm glad that the cartoon had a happy ending to it as opposed to the song itself.
Agreed

Oh my gosh. This is very wholesome. I used to love this as a kid.
Watching this while smoking is crazy especially since this was my absolute favourite movie when I was little and I haven’t watched it in probably a decade
Puff just casually pushing aside Jackie's inanimate body @ about 7:00 .... never realized how messed up this is as a kid lol...
I loved this movie when I was a kid! I still love it!
I love ❤this movie. Thank you so much ❤❤❤
Cartoons are not like this anymore and this is artistic.

@@Tomsonic41 Garrett Gilchrist could work magic if he ever decided to remaster the film. He's an incredible animation preservationist.
Weave me the sunshine is a Cool song
certified classic

***** Assuming CBS remembers where they might've hid those films at.
Fingers crossed for that, Wiley.
Peter Yarrow (who turned 85 years old just four days ago on Wednesday, May 31, 2023) did the voice of the father.

Looks like Puff the Magic Dragon knows the Disney characters and the yellow brick from the Wizard of Oz's Yellow Brick road.
