This video is about the life and family of Al Jaffee. An American cartoonist, best known for his work in Mad magazine. He was born on March 13, 1921, in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Jaffee was the son of Mildred and Morris Jaffee, a Jewish Lithuanian family who emigrated to the United States in the early 20th century. Jaffee married Ruth Ahlquist in 1945; they had two children, Richard and Debbie. They divorced in 1967. In 1977, Jaffee married Joyce Revenson, a widow. Joyce died in January 2020. Jaffee had a long and successful career as a cartoonist, beginning in the 1940s. He is best known for his work in Mad magazine, where he contributed to almost every issue from 1955 until his retirement in 2020. Jaffee is particularly famous for his "Fold-In" feature, where he would create a cartoon that could be folded to reveal a hidden message. In addition to his work in Mad, Jaffee also created cartoons for many other publications, including Time, Playboy, and The New Yorker. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Reuben Award, the National Cartoonists Society's highest honor, and was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame in 2013. Jaffee died of organ failure on April 10, 2023, at a Manhattan hospital. He was 102.
