This kind of entertainment seems like a rare performance now, but back then it was just normal TV. There used to be these TV shows called "variety shows" where a host would have some of the greatest talents in the world as guests, and there was singing, dancing, and comedy sketches. The ladies wore lovely designer gowns, the gentlemen wore sharp custom-tailored formal suits. The bands and orchestras were top of the line, and the dance numbers were choreographed especially for the show. The biggest stars would be in acts together, and their talents would multiply together. You could watch it all in the comfort of your living room. And next week, it would happen all over again. Now, we have nothing like this. Occasionally one of the late-night shows will rise to this kind of quality, but not often.
I miss Lena! I had the pleasure of seeing her twice here in Boston. She was pure magic! She was the first woman who had swag! Classy and sexy at the same time. A one of a kind!!!
I will add this. I would've given anything to see Horne dancing with Fred Astaire in an update of the Valentino tango to Paul Whiteman's "Wonderful one." That would've been sensational entertainment, Astaire and Horne together on the screen for the first time in a passionate tango. Michael Jackson whoooo?

What if someone said that an American girl who has one Chinese grandparent is the most beautiful "yellow" or "Asian" American, not looking anything like asian or Chinese. This would be offensive to any Chinese or Asian girl who really looks Asian. Horne could be the sister of Dean Martin, that's how she looks like So it's better to say Horne was one of the most beautiful American singers

In the New World we're all mixed but Black just the same 🙄 maybe it makes you uncomfortable to know there are wt people who look like mixed black people. My husband is Sicilian Roman and he's 14% West African Senegal & Mali from the MOORS

Years before when she sang with Sinatra on TV they weren't allowed to touch each other. This shows how progress was made in that regard. Lena was amazing.

Hardy Widjaya Well, it's well known that Dean played a lot of golf, so in the Californian climate it must have been easy to maintain a tan, especially with his Italian Mediterranean genes. Also I have seen a lot of pictures of him around his pool at home, playing with his children. It seems that away from the studio he was quite an outdoors-y kind of man.
