Rarely do I ever get chills while watching something like I got when the doctor responded that the only way to contain the spread is: "Bombing." That entire scene is so well done and sets in the dread this show is trying to make you feel.
The fact that Indonesia is one of the largest flour exporting countries in the world today makes the sequence of events in the series closer to reality. Since Joel and his daughter did not eat any meals containing flour in the first episode (cakes... pancakes... cookies) and also that Joel was on a diet, it indicates that they were less likely to be infected with the fungus than the rest of the people of the area or city in Texas. During the game this sequence of events is not made clear, so I find it a great idea to include it in the series.
I totally didn't think about the fact it could spread through the flour which would have gone thousands of places and be made into thousands of things. If they're not going the spore route it being ingested is the next best option.
Came here to post this! I was thinking the biscuits may have been part of it in E1, but this ep with the flour factory worker sure seems to confirm it, or at least strongly imply there's a connection.
The fact that a ton of the comments are about “why did you skip the intro?“ shows how masterful the writing is. These are completely original stories, and people love them.
She doesn't get a second bite in the game but I'm sure they wrote it in to compare to Tess who gets bite at a similar time but it's much worse comparatively
Also to reinforce the fact that she is immune and convince Joel who was still skeptical. In the game she breaths the spores in front of Joel, and that is what sells it for him, but since we don't have spores on the show ....
in the game Joel notices that she can breath spores because she doesnt wear a gas mask so it gives him a chance to believe that she cant get infected. So this is basically an alternate way for her to prove to Joel that she can't get infected.
*I don’t know how true this is, but I heard they used the same actors in the game, to play the clickers in the series and that’s why they nailed the movements so perfectly*
I love the fact how they made clickers so realistic, the fact that you even yourself gotta breathe without a noise...so when Ellie saw clicker for the first time and started slightly stressing out, got scared and got startled, she made just a slightly more noise just from breathing and clicker was on her...THATS SO SCARY LIKE HOLY SHIT
So I listened to the official hbo TLOU podcast and I liked what Neil Druckman said about that 'kiss' at the end. Craig Mazin and Neil Druckman both said that this show is about love and its different forms, the good and the very bad sides of it. When humans deeply love each other some decide to reproduce, it's kind of an instinct because that's how our species survives and the cordyceps acts similar. It wants to reproduce so it can survive and it senses that Tess is already infected and she isn't fighting, so there is no need for the infected to fight. I dont't know exactly how the cordyceps works here, if it acts faster if the infected stay connected longer of if the infection gets stronger or whatever, but 'kissing' Tess seemed to be some sort of a friendly welcome. It's still gross as fuck and I didn't feel good after seeing that, but I liked to see it from a more loving perspective.
The "kiss" scene makes sense because the more damaged the body is the worse the potential for the host to spread the fungus, at least that's what I believe. It's like the fungus got it's host to recognize how much damage it needs to inflict based on the amount of resistance it encounters from the healthy host. Since Tess accepted her fate, we get a simple tendril transfer in what resembles a makeout sesh.
What I heard-and I love this-is that Tess wanted to kiss Joel goodbye but she couldn’t because of her infection. She’s already connected to the hive mind at this point, and the other zombie knew her thoughts and in a way played it out for her. It gave her the goodbye “kiss” she never received.
@@mxtch29 Well, to be fair, it's very one dimensional of someone. Some people find it offensive to share valuable things like oxygen and clean water with such intellectually incapable beings.
With the clickers, it helps that they got the same actors who voiced/motion captured the clickers in the game. Actually, for the game, many of the main actors also provided some motion capture for some of the clickers, but all the vocal sounds were made by two actors-Misty Lee and Philip Kovats-who also worked on the show.
It's already confirmed that the 1st season covers the entire first game. You can even see Joel in the hospital at the end of the game in one of the teasers!
They did SUCH a good job with the clickers. My wife couldn't even watch so she ended up hiding behind her phone. 😂 They actually switched it up SO well. Since they switched the spores with the tendrils, they had to figure out a way to verify to Joel that she really is immune. In the game they are hiding in a subway with the spores and Ellie is breathing it in normally. Show version they give her another small bite. 👏🏾GENIUS👏🏾 As for the 2nd season DON'T YOU DARE CHANGE ANYTHING!
I think the doubts have vanished the detail and passion they’ve put into this show is INCREDIBLE from what they’ve added, changed and kept from the game is just perfection
ah too bad you skipped the start of the episode. i thought that introduction of how it started was really nice extra backstory and i was wondering how you guys would react to it.
anyone else in that doctor's place, would have taken their family and ran. the fac that she said bomb the city, with everyone in it, and then asked to be taken home to be with her family, shows devotion to her work. she knew what this was, and didnt let ego or selfishness put the future of mankind in danger by surviving this. BIG mvp energy
They did the Clickers more than justice in this episode. The way they moved, the sounds that come straight from the game (and the same voice actors that they used). I had the same reaction as Mickey and Spidey at 12:59 when the episode aired. Also the set design and how the abandoned city looks visually. Really well done! The changes that they made from the game (Tess's moment and the Cordyceps network) are interesting changes that don't feel out of place for this adaptation. I love it. And the cast is just amazing **chef's kiss** Can't wait for episode 3. Reviewers claimed that it's the best one of the season.
24:44 - On the topic of Clickers and their hearing sensitivity: Fun fact, they have MUCH more heightened hearing on higher difficulty settings. This is to the point that they can hear you opening your backpack on Grounded mode if they are close enough to you.
Pls, I hope Ellie tries to learn how to whistle haha! Ellie's 14... I hope they show her age more in future episodes like they did in the game. The hotel thing was a perfect example!

My theory about the kiss was because she was bitten so high she was already starting to turn. As the stalkers were coming in she was already starting to freeze up and lose control thus a simple tendril transfer from one infected to another was simple. She wasnt going to fight it because her brain was already turning but she fought with her last bit of energy to set the place a blaze before it was too late. Her brain was already being taken but she had enough left in the tank to finish the job.
The tendril swap/kiss actually makes sense as the quickest way to get to the human brain is the mouth/nose canal. Infection would be instant compared to a bite

Incredible second episode. Love seeing people who havent played the game experience this. Besides my dissapointing of not showing the intro, your intro to this video is great. Almost makes up for it. Almost.
The change of spore to tendrils was a really good change. For me, infection via spore was the least believable thing in the game for a number of reasons. Tendril infection and the tendril network makes this universe a lot more frightening while also making a lot of sense.
Idk if anyone commented this already, but the actors of the clickers are fans of the game. They had been mimicking the game for fun and posted videos. They were found for the show!
Tess chose to ignite the gas not with the fire of her lighter or grenade, but with the fiery hot passion of her forbidden infected lover. Top tier ship.
I was ready to come in all aggro that the intro was totally skipped but I can see that message has been delivered already so I'm just happy that I'm not the only one who thinks the intros are literally the best parts of the episodes
I kinda love how they spun the cordyceps "hivemind" network to make even distant Runners a threat, to make up for the lack of Spores and forced stealth section of the game.
If anyone found the "kissing" scene wierd, in a podcast of tlou the directors said they wanted to show how the fungus would spread if the would be host didnt resist. So bitting seems to be a last resort the fungus would use to ensure it spreads as it doesnt want to damage new hosts if possible. so why through a kiss? in the game its explained that the infection takes over the person/host once the fungus gets to the brain stem, that is somewhat located in your neck, at the end of your throat. They also mentioned that depending on where a person get bitten it takes longer (when the little kid gets into the QZ in episdoe 1 and they show some medical infographics about the disease), So if the soon to be host doesnt fight, the fungus will try to enter through its mouth so that it can get to the stem quickly.
i love seeing how giddy everyone whos played the game or watched it gets when they watch the scene where you see the clickers movements behind the glass chest. Its so accurate that it takes you back to the game for a second. Also im sure someone has said this but the clickers were played by fans of the game and the clicker voice actors are the same from the games.
I just realized Pedro is basically playing the same Character in the Mandalorian and The Last of US. A warrior type who says very little who takes on a child he must get to a place and protect along the way and then becomes a surrogate father.
Eh, I’d say it’s mostly a surface level comparison. Joel and Din are very different men and we will see that. Din has more of a moral code than Joel does. No spoilers but I can say that they are very different men.
What was funny to me watching this episode is that when they introduced clickers, my mom (who has never played the game or seen me play the game) immeadietly started talking about how they should just throw stuff to distract the clickers, was definitely hoping Joel or Tess would just grab a brick or bottle and throw it behind a clicker

They used the same motion capture actors from the game for the show that's why the Clickers were so accurate. They also had the same sound people
that freaking "Kiss" scene at the end was absolutely visceral, I screamed with Marketa lmao
The opening clip was everything! Loved it
Tess chose to ignite the gas not with the fire of her lighter or grenade, but with the fiery hot passion of her forbidden infected lover.
Top tier ship.
How the hell do you leave out of a reaction video the most gripping and dark intro that I've witnessed in years
I was ready to come in all aggro that the intro was totally skipped but I can see that message has been delivered already so I'm just happy that I'm not the only one who thinks the intros are literally the best parts of the episodes
To answer the initial question: Pedro was in Buffy the vampire slayer as a vampire victim on season 4 episode 1
im really loving pascal and ramsey's portrayal of the characters,,, they killing it !!!!
And Offerman and Bartlett were simply divine in episode 3.
I kinda love how they spun the cordyceps "hivemind" network to make even distant Runners a threat, to make up for the lack of Spores and forced stealth section of the game.
They missed the intro
Bless your heart
If they watched it and decided its not important or interesting enough or something to show in this reaction I'm actually dumbfound
I dont know.
But I've seen some others do it too.
But I really like this group. I was just disappointed so I moved on.
All good though.
@@jens2049 How can you decide that's not important or interesting lol
@@jens2049 Yeah, they should be able to post the entire episode, otherwise I'm dumbfound.
What the actual fuck?
Did you guys skip the Indonesia scene at the beginning? Or is it just not in the RUclips cut? It’s like 5+ minutes long
Okay good they mention it at 26:15, I guess it was just cut for time
If anyone found the "kissing" scene wierd, in a podcast of tlou the directors said they wanted to show how the fungus would spread if the would be host didnt resist.
Can’t wait for the Winter part
Guys where's the intro with the scientist?

i love seeing how giddy everyone whos played the game or watched it gets when they watch the scene where you see the clickers movements behind the glass chest. Its so accurate that it takes you back to the game for a second. Also im sure someone has said this but the clickers were played by fans of the game and the clicker voice actors are the same from the games.
At the beginning of the recaps, I keep wanting to hear Carlton Cuse say, "Previously, on LAST."
I just realized Pedro is basically playing the same Character in the Mandalorian and The Last of US. A warrior type who says very little who takes on a child he must get to a place and protect along the way and then becomes a surrogate father.
youre fast arent you?
Eh, I’d say it’s mostly a surface level comparison. Joel and Din are very different men and we will see that. Din has more of a moral code than Joel does. No spoilers but I can say that they are very different men.
How do I watch your let’s plays of the games on Twitch? I can only find a recent one of Spidey being like having played 1/4 of TLOU Part 2
Rana's scream at the clicker was perfect lol
Why'd you cut the intro?
this music in the end is called allowed to be happy, its from the last of us part 2, its my favorite one. Perfect, amazing
I've always wondered how the clicker voice actors actually do the clicking sound, and the screech too
Excellent episode. The Clickers look amazing. Awesome commentary. The visuals in the series are marvelous.
When the doorway collapsed the first thing that I thought was, check point! Now they have to clear this next area!
"Snitch wires have been snitched" is probably the highlight of this episode for me 😂
The Jakarta opening is the best part of the episode. Your editor screwed up big time
YO HOMIE ON THE LEFT IS PURE GOLD
What was funny to me watching this episode is that when they introduced clickers, my mom (who has never played the game or seen me play the game) immeadietly started talking about how they should just throw stuff to distract the clickers, was definitely hoping Joel or Tess would just grab a brick or bottle and throw it behind a clicker
Legit, all you would have to carry around are some rocks. Throw a rock in a direction and go the opposite way lol
"I hope you're aiming inverted!" .... 😂 ...that was great!
The entire episode Micky was just beaming like a proud parent lol. I was doing the exact same thing.
love the opening sketches you're doing!
Don't know if it's been mentioned yet guys but, I like the little intro skits a lot. Keep it up with the good reactions!
Wrong Marketa. Pedro Pascal appeared in Game of Thrones before Narcos.
