I've said that too, that they frown upon it because they want to retain their status as the most powerful gems.
By only allowing same gem fusion within certain gem classes, they control the potential of any unapproved fusion by making it socially unacceptable/illegal.

a few months ago i expressed a personal theory on vox's channel, but he never saw it.
There is a gem named Lonsdaleite, which in nature has a greenish tint. it is one of the few stones that is stronger than a diamond. but, because it is not as beautiful it is looked down on. If you get what im saying, maybe yellow/blue's fusion is... wait for it... lonsdaleite. its a bit far fetched but they both match up.

Kyo Chan lonsdaleite is a stronger gemstone, BUT, it is still a form of diamond. where the molecular structure of a diamond is cubical or square, the molecular structure of lonsdaleite is the exact same, but in a hexagonal form. because of this it is classified as a different gem. Wurtzite is also another gemstone stronger than diamond, but it is much more synthetic (manmade) than lonsdaleite. lonsdaleite is formed in nature through meteorites.

I wouldnt like to have YD and BD fuse. Homeworld wouldn't accept that since Homeworld considers it innaporpiate because they hate gem fusions. Plus it would end up making the gem fusion unstable with BD's constant sorrow and YD's bottomless pit of mean. it would be kind of a Malachite if you think about it.

Just to clarify, there are some types of fusions which Homeworld tolerates, as seen with Topaz as well as the Rubies.
The Legendary Omauri Homeworld isnt the one that issues that, the diamonds themselves do, so they can do whatever they want. Also they dont have a problem with same gem fusions, its different gem fusions they despise
The Legendary Omauri I agree with Green Diamond being unstable to the-point of near-uselessness, but what Homeworld wants and accepts is decided by solely the diamonds. I believe there is a double standard for same-gem fusion because honestly, whose gonna tell White, Yellow, or Blue that they can't fuse? Whoever does would be crushed into aquarium gravel.

I personally prefer the theory that the Diamonds are different kinds of gems and are the only ones allowed to fuse. The reason that a fusion of two different gems such as a Ruby and Sapphire is so unthinkable is because it's a thing that only Diamonds are allowed to do.
They aren't the only ones allowed to fuse if ur theory is right, because we can see a few seconds to a minute 3 Rubies fusing to fight off the "rebels"

Going along with how the Diamonds are different colors of the same gem, this technically also applies to Ruby and Sapphire, who are both types of corundum. It can even be argued in fact that rubies are really just red sapphires. And yet, they are clearly different types of gems in the show.
what if all three diamonds fused together made up White Diamond. it would explain the reason why we never seen White Diamond. in the episode where we saw homeworld it looked like a statue of White Diamond was in the background. that may also explain why we never see carvings or statues of the other fusions but there is a giant one of the crystal gems all fused together.

michael Satterfield Gem placement nullifies the "White Diamond is a fusion theory". Fusion gems have their gems placed where the fusion component gems have theirs placed. A fused White Diamond would have her gems on her chest (representing BD and YD ) and her navel to represent PD.
White Diamond's mural shows her with a diamond on her forehead however. None of the other diamonds have their diamonds on their forehead.
michael Satterfield I don't think the diamonds even know what their fusion would look like. I mean, they're so powerful, and Jasper seems to have had it drilled into her head, by homeworld, that fusion is for the weak gems. The diamonds cannot be weak. If they fused, it would make other gems of their court think that they could fuse, too, and Homeworld doesn't need a bunch of strong gems fusing, allowing them enough power to take them down.

We already have a perfect example of this in Garnet.
Even though they're named differently, rubies and sapphires are two different colors of the same fundamental type of gemstone, corundum.
So clearly color does make a difference by Gem Homeworld standards.

Amethyst does in some episodes, doesn't in others. They aren't human, they don't necessarily need ears to hear, so I would assume it's just a stylistic choice.

Daniel GC It doesn't matter if they fuse to the same gem or a new one. Gem fusion isn't really about same gems or not. It's always considered a bad thing, and only fusing for a purpose motigates that fact, but the only acceptable purpose is for combat. Gems who fuse are always considered lesser, even if it is a same gem fusion or for combat. Two pearls fusing would be considered off-color, as it would deny the owners a pearl.

Well the diamonds were in a weird pose when they first came to the trial. I first thought they just unfused.

They have just different colours, fusions that are considered wrong are between different gems (is the only "wrong way" that has been shown in the series) but not different colour gems! , I mean for example if Padparadscha and our Sapphire fuse they would just create a different colour and bigger sapphire not an entirely new gem!
Jungbin Im in not sure how that would work since Rubies and Sapphires irl are essentially the same thing but different colors but considered different gems, in steven universe each gen type has their own voice actress yet yd and bd have different ones, they also have different gem cuts ( blues is longer and not completely equilateral) another sign that they are different gems

Specifically, I'm talking about Sardonyx first appereance in "Cry for help". It is prooved that a fusion remember the individual memories of their gems. For example, Opal in "Giant woman", remembering Steven. Then, wouldn't Sardonyx remember Pearl rebuilding the communicator tower?

I'm considered a Off colored Diamond. my birthstone is a diamond and I have many illnesses and disabilities, I can Not "rule" a type of society or a court. And I can not fight at will, the only fighting thing I have is running away super fast.
I dont think Green Diamond would be called "off colored" becase a gem is callled that if it's not like the color of their diamond and if the DIAMOND IS GREEN that means that it CAN NOT be called "off colord"

That's not true. While most gems are sorted by color, there are still Orange Jaspers owned by Pink Diamond and Emeralds owned by Yellow Diamond and Amethysts and Jaspers owned by Blue Diamond.

Today was the worst, every single thing around me was bad, but then this video came around to make me smile.
i think another point of clarification on the first question is that the off-color fusions have different appearances from each other separately. The reason a bunch of rubies can fuse together to make a giant ruby is because of their shape & design. The reason ruby & sapphire -who are made from the same elements- become garnet is because their shape & design is different from each other. The Diamonds have different designs, so their fusions would be a mix between the two of them. And that's exactly what off-color fusions are.

same, the wanted special convinced me Pink was "off colored" and Earth was going to be a safe zone for others. It works out
Earth was going to be connected to all other gem worlds,
her main gems have been Rubies, Rose Quartz and Amithsye which seem to be all design for defense.
Why she fought so hard
I'm going with she wanted to perma fuse with White (sorry I ship them hard)
Yellow found out and Pink was able to convince Yellow to not out her (and thats why Yellow is really doing what she's doing its to make sure no one finds out)
Blue seems to have made the war worst
it would also mean The CG and Pink were basically fighting for the same reasons and could have you know TALK TO EACH OTHER they would have teamed up aka the themes of the show
Pink most likely suicide by Rose she was going to be outed and drag her lover with her anyway, and she was at the time completely alone with no one to support her, she couldn't return to homeworld or run and join the cg (being a diamond)
Well there is something I noticed... I guess gems of the same type will create a larger gem of the same type, and having only two arms.
I mean, take a look at Sapphire and Ruby creating Garnet for an example. Ruby is considered a sapphire, only red. They are of the same type of gem, only with different colors.
If Sapphire and Ruby were gems whose characteristics are totally different from each other, then their fusion result would having at least more than 2 arms (or more than 2 legs I guess)
And I know Garnet is mostly red.
I do not have an idea or theory on why she is mostly red.
I guess it's because of Ruby's warmer color?
So, I do not know if it has the same effect on Blue and Yellow's fusion.
If it does, since the color yellow is warmer than blue, then I'd guess the color result of Yellow and Blue's fusion would be Yellow-Green. More yellow than green though.
And let's talk about another theory I have.

I mean, there are green gems out there, and I'd guess Green Diamond would take control of green gems or have them have higher authority among blue and yellow gems.
Well, Blue Diamond mostly have blue gems have blue gems have higher authority because they have the same color as her.
It also applies on yellow diamond.
So then again, if Blue and Yellow fuse, creating Green diamond,
Homeworld in Green's authority, would have green gems have higher authority than blue and yellow gems.
So I don't think Blue and Yellow's fusion would be considered off-color.
I hope this helps at least a little bit. (Sorry if you are confused, I'm not that great in explaining things in English)
Maybe if all gems involved in a fusion have the same voice, then they are just a bigger versions of themselves (Mega Ruby, etc.) while if they have different voices (Pearl and Amethyst) they fuse into something entirely new (Opal). So maybe any random gems regardless of type voiced by the same person will fuse into just a bigger version of themselves.
i've yet to hear a theory that involves pink diamond being shattered by someone other than rose quartz that can coexist with rose quartz taking the blame for it. I'd love to hear your thoughts! your theories are always so on pointe
Just a throw-away thought, but I always got the impression that Blue and Pink were close enough that they would have fused at least once, and maybe even made it a habit. Maybe White/Yellow found out about it and chose to secretly conspire to have shattered Pink, as the younger, less influential, and more generally problematic Diamond. It might even lend to how violently Blue reacted seeing Garnet the first time, this swirling mix of Pink and Blue reminding her of her loss on top of the break of ethics. Idk man just an idea in the wind.

Plus different-gem fusions are more powerful than same-gem fusions; they can get cool powers like fire breath. Keeping different-gem fusion for the Diamonds, behind closed doors, while maintaining that it's amoral for all other gems, keeps a sort of...reserve secret weapon to keep the populace in check.
As another point to note - Ruby and Sapphires are essentially the same gem or minreral. They are corundum, but their imperfections if I recall correctly are what these crystals and their relatives their coloring.
It could be that the reason fusion (of different gems) is forbidden on home world has more to do with the ability of those fusions to combat the diamonds. We also saw in Wanted that fusion also increases the odds of gems becoming sentimental, which may impact their loyalty with to diamonds.
I don't think off color is necessarily refers to a gem that's not yellow, blue, white or pink, the way it was explained in "off colors" was a gem that came out with some kind of defect or broke the same gem fusion rules, other than the way you use that term i think you're theory is right and i like you're videos a lot :D
I've been suspecting that pearl has control over certain terrains like how in Giant Woman she's able to morph sand into shapes of her and amethyst fusing or in Mr. Greg when she shapes the clouds into an image of rose turning to Greg instead of her.

Just a what if scenario - Since gem bodies are made of light- and white light is all of the colors mixed and red (pink is a tint of red), yellow and blue are typically considered your primary colors in art and are the colors in art for whit all other colors are derived... what if 'White Diamond' or Paragon is just or was the fusion of Pink Yellow and Blue diamonds?
I honestly feel as if the diamond authority mimics or calls back to color theory rather strongly in some aspects. It makes perfect sense since all other colors [gems] owe their creation pigment wise to the primary colors. It kinda shows the gem hierarchy through the same color meaning- say for some key differences.
Primary Colors - Red, Blue, Yellow
Secondary Colors- Green, Orange, Violet
Tertiary colors- your red-oranges, and yellow greens. Always often taught to say the primary colors first to express honor to the colors that helped make these third sets of colors.
Could you talk about yellow pearl? I would like to know what you think about her being so open and talkitive while all other pearls are expected to be quite and keep to themselves at all times. (Like Blue diamonds pearl is, or like how holly expected out pearl to act.)
Another point to give the argument of Blue and Yellow Diamond being different gems, just look at the real-world equivalent. Different colored diamonds have a different elemental composition, because it's due to other elements contained within the carbon that constructs the diamonds that give them their varied colors. So, while they are still technically diamonds, they are not equal in quality to other diamonds. The only diamonds that are better than all others would be the "white" diamonds, or rather, the diamonds that have no real hue to them, as those ones are made purely of carbon.

I like how Steven Universe RUclipsrs use fan-made fusions or fan concepts for gems in thumbnails for clickbait.
Well consider a Diamond fusion to be like this:
A Quartz and another Quartz fusing could be considered mixed gem fusion, because the Quartz is a category of gem, not a singular gem. Both Carnelian and a Jasper are types of Quartz so if they were to fuse, although they are both Quartzes, they are different variations of Quartz
This is the same with Diamonds
This isn't really related to the video but it's a theory/speculation/I noticed it kind of thing that I thought you might be interested in if you haven't already seen it.
I was scrolling through RUclips and I found the thumbnail of a really old theory video, with a picture of yellow diamond in the cover. It was the picture of her from the extended intro so it was the only picture of her existing at the time. I then noticed something huge: where was her coat? Those big shoulder pads, the lengthy back of her shirt/coat; where had it gone?
I then looked at the moon base mural, and I noticed the same thing; no shoulder pads. Then I had the thought that the intro theme yellow diamond was her just after pink was shattered. And the look on her face wasn't just menacing: it was the face of bitterness and anger and revenge. Yellow diamond either became the general of home world in that moment, started acting more war like, or, which is what I think happened, she closed herself off in that moment. She became this emotionless deity who was admired but never really understood fully. This is backed up by the song "What's the use of feeling blue".
But I also think it can be a sign of guilt. Of bottling it all away and pretending it never happened. Closing herself off so tightly no one will ever know the truth, no one could ever even guess her secret: she played a hand in shattering pink diamond.
Again this is just speculation and stuff and I don't really think it IS a sign of her guilt but I'm open to the possibility.
(Edit: I forgot to mention this could have easily been a design choice but due to the other characters' outfits being the same I highly doubt it)

I am going to make it simple: just remember when someone from the crewniverse got asked what would it happen if blue Pearl and yellow pearl fuse, they told us that they would do a bigger pearl with combined colors, it is not about real life gemstone properties or pigmentation, it is about the names of the gem involved.

My thoughts on the mixed diamond fusion thing is this: The cuts of Amethysts and Rubies are exactly the same. But, Yellow Diamond's gem is basically a tilted square, while Blue's is a different shape. That's why I agree, and I thinl that a Blue and Yellow fusion would be mixed.

what would have happen if two gems whose gems' placement is at the same part of their body fuse? like what would happen if pearl and peridot fuse? would the gem fuse physically?
I know this is something of an old video by now, but I wanted to add my two cents anyway. While I agree with a lot of what you said, I also must ask one very important question.
Who's going care?
Think about it, in a totalitarian dictatorship akin to what Homeworld is, who is going to enforce the rule of "No Mixed Gem Fusions" on said dictators? White Diamond? She hasn't even shown up in the series yet, hell, she didn't show up for the trial of the supposed "murder" of another Diamond. No gem, save one who can't be bothered to care, has the authority to enforce this rule on Blue and Yellow. Now, this doesn't mean that they'd jump at the chance to fuse, just that if they did for any reason ever fuse, no gem would be running to declare them "Off-Color"

I don't know why, but thought Green Diamond's "weapon"/ability, was to send a wave of electric power to poof gems. I thought this because Blue Diamond can emit a wave of "sadness", causing gems around her to cry, while Yellow Diamond emits an electric laser to poof gems. Combined, it could make a wave of an electric "destabilizer". Idk, just a thought. :P
but the diamonds are still... well both diamonds. even if the look a bit different and have different personalities. so do other gems. take the zircons for example. they do look different but are still the same gem.
so technically a diamond fusion would be acceptable. the only problem is that usually only warrior gems use this to become stronger. a diamond fusion is not only unnecessary but would also be considered something "lower class" gems do.
(also, since we see the gems basically adoring and seeing the diamonds as perfect beings, they would be confused but wouldn't question it)
Even better example of the same gem vs. different gem fusion: a Sapphire is just a blue Ruby, and we know that a Ruby & Sapphire fusion creates a Garnet. So saying Blue and Yellow Diamond fusing into Green Diamond is OK is like saying a red Ruby and a blue Ruby would create a purple Ruby, and saying that would be acceptable when we know it's not because of "The Answer"
Another thing that we must also consider is that we have never had a gem fusion with gems in the same placement. Like Blue and Yellow Diamond. This could mean that all fusions like these are impossible or flawed in some way.
You can also same the same about Sapphire and Ruby, they are both corundum, but when they fuse Garnet doesn't match neither of their body types, (I understand that Sapphires have a skinnier body types) but really Sapphire and Ruby are the same exact gems, just different colors, Ruby is literally Red Sapphire basically, just like how Padparadscha is just a Peach colored Sapphire... But Garnet does get an extra eye because of Ruby's double eyes and Sapphire single eye, but there is a lot of stuff that can also go against as well...
I was bringing in groceries and left my phone inside. As soon as I walk in with the last trip this video started and scared the shit out of me. I have no idea how it started on its own. My phone was locked.
I figured that out because Blue and Yellow are too different, in personalities and features. It was confirmed if the 3 pearls fused, they would make a larger pearl with all 3 colours, but they look and behave similar to each other (all neat, very organised and our Pearl and Blue Pearl were shown to be artistic). Same gems can vary to some degree, as shown by the Rubies where their personalities are a bit different, but they said they thought the same thing about Jasper, and 5/8 (including Garnet Ruby and from the answer) were depicted as aggressive impulsive military types.
I was thinking diamonds are just mass fusions that have lived so long as a fusion they forgot they were a fusion
