Dana Dan is a graphic commentary on sexual assault and the need to eliminate it. It begins with the reflexive, almost homicidal rage we feel when we hear about these crimes, before moving on to a more level headed call to arms. It culminates in a gentle appeal for all of us to reflect on the role we play in creating a world where atrocities of this nature are committed and to work towards eliminating it altogether.

"I put a fist through the face of a rapist and yeah, I tape this, for the viewing pleasure of the nameless faces he disgraces."
Best opening line in music history.
came to comment section to write this, thanks for beating me to it :)
It's the rawest thing in recent music history.
Everytime I hear this, I see myself taking off me every man who ever harassed or assaulted me and beating the crap out of him.
They get messed up in India.
They should play this song whenever Se_val Assault Awareness Month comes around ... It'll make a lot of guys THINK TWICE b4 they decide to serve needs 2 their frankfurters against their partners' (male or female) wills. I'd know that I would just HATE to be in that frontman's crosshairs for criminally violating somebody; I know that much. 😲😯😳🥴

Same here I was all “Wait…I k ow this.” And like Kronk…..it all came together while I headbanged.
As a man who was assaulted sexually, I really appreciate that the victims are gender neutral. I felt included in a way I don't always get to in these conversations and with how powerful this song was, it felt like a pretty bad ass thing to be included in.
That really sucks man.
I'm sorry that happened to you.
I've often wondered how males feel being sorry if left out of the solutions or the conversations. The spot light is definitely on females. We truly need to change that. And also.... thanks for speaking about it. The more other males see it's ok... the more healing can be done. ❤
And I am so sorry you have ever made to feel less bc of your SA bc you are a male. I was SA myself and I helped a lot of my male friends I ran with as a young teen in the 80's all punker boys.Others thought they were throw away.My Father born 1928 sure the hell didn't and helped many of my friends who never had a person to be able to trust. I’m so sorry about that. Men Vic have a voice too . Anyone who has ever denied that is part of the problem. You matter too❤❤❤
“Not all men. Yes all men, need all men for what we’re solving.” This line! This line all day!!!
Does that include Shane Seyer, who at 13 had been raped by his female babysitter, and then subsequently ordered to pay her child support despite her having been convicted in the criminal trial? Or every other boy or man in a similar situation where every single judge, without fail, ruled exactly the same due to the precedent set by Hermesmann vs. Seyer? Does it include the 1,715,000 men that the CDC's 2012 NIPSVS discovered had been raped... sorry... "made to penetrate" (as the CDC calls it) within the previous 12 months, over 80% of whom had a female perpetrator? Compare that figure to the 1,473,000 female victims of what the CDC did consider to be rape within the exact same time frame. Yes, you did read those numbers right. Does it include my boyfriend, himself a rape survivor? Since, y'know, we're talking collective responsibility for a specific kind of crime on the part of a specific demographic (and only that demographic) that hosts millions upon millions of victims of such crimes.
All women should speak against false rape cases too, but not even a single one would. So shut the f up
@@radicaldreamer927 who's fault is it that male victims are not taken seriously? oh.. right... other men!
@@tundrance Is it only men? That’s a rather extraordinary claim. I assume you have extraordinary evidence to back up your claim that it is *_only men_* to blame for female rapists being swept under the rug.
While you’re doing your darndest to scrounge up the evidence I’m sure you have, ponder this quote by high profile feminist (and woman) Mary Koss: “It is inappropriate to consider as a rape victim a man who engages in unwanted sexual intercourse with a woman.”
The very same Mary Koss who served as senior consultant, expert panelist, advisor, etc. etc. etc. with the CDC on the very same National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Surveys whose 2012 numbers I quoted verbatim in my previous reply. In which they followed her “expert” advice exactly and *_excluded female-on-male rape from the definition of rape._* She served in that capacity for *_decades._*
Ponder also the fact that in Israel, they almost passed a law that would have expanded the definition of rape to include instances of female-on-male rape, and it was shut down. By feminist groups. I’m sure some of the members of those groups were men. But I highly doubt all. Or even most. Just a hunch.
@@tundrance Also, I like how your response to me conclusively proving that a highly significant number of rapists are women is not to acknowledge that this should therefore be an issue that is everybody's responsibility to address, heavens to Betsy no, your response is to double down on the idea that it is men's and *_only men's_* responsibility because... it's allegedly only other men who make it more difficult for male rape victims to be taken seriously.
That niggling little detail that the vast majority of those who rape men are women is inconsequential, of course.

As a Christian, I am sorry this happened to you. Sadly, much filth is masked by fake religiosity without the change happening with us.
There was an Indian woman in the comments saying she cried the first time hearing this... it's like my 20th time and I still tear up. Being a near victim of trafficking and later abuse as a child... a freakish Japanese red headed green eyed girl... I was an exotic prize for monsters and blamed my entire life for it. This was in America by the way. So any ignorant people need to realize this happens everywhere. Right in front of your faces. Because you let it happen. Now that I am older and I broke free, nearly dying to free my three sisters who were lucky not to be abducted but in a bad situation also... it feels so... freeing to hear that there are men that actually understand the pain and want to help... you can hear the rage and anger in their voices. You can feel that this is personal from the dancers. I hope that rage will fill you all with courage to rise up when things like this happen. The cycle stops with you.
Power on, sister. ❤ ✊

Hell yeah.
"fuck every man for himself, it's every man for every man" - yes, but not everyone against everyone and everyone against everyone
Really annoyed at all the people misinterpreting the "yes all men" lyric. No, all men aren't rapists, but we NEED all men to be aware of sexual abuse and how to stop it to be able to reduce the rates. They literally said "we need all men for what we're solving." It's not enough to say "well I'm not a rapist" and call it a day because you've done your part. You need to be actively taking action against abuse. Walk your friends home, watch your language and mindset towards women, take no for an answer, call out that one friend who's just "like that," I know a lot of you have a friend who's kind of a creep but is chill with you, and if you don't confront him about it you don't know what he's gonna do behind your back. Misinterpreting this line in order to dismiss it is lazy and disgraceful. We're not saying you're a rapist, we're saying we need you to participate in solving this problem.
Sorry if this is worded oddly I'm autistic and struggle with communicating complex emotional topics.
I hurt people a couple of years younger than me when I was 18 in a similar way (online btw) but I did the sensible things, when I realised what I was doing was wrong and hurting them I apologised and cut contact with them, and I self-reported and confided in people whom I trust about it and a few helplines, who are helping me get help so i don't do that shit again (they definitely wouldn't be as light with somebody over 21 or high risk that's for sure, im 19 now btw, in the process of seeking help).
Is 19 too late for somebody on a destructive warpath to try to improve their life to prevent it happening again, I just want to know whether I've ruined my entire life because of fuckups I made and people I hurt and things I saw and thought that I now wish I didn't during my teenagehood.
If I didn't have so many enablers I probably wouldn't be in this state now, we really need a from the from the grassroots change, but I don't see that happening in my Lifetime unfortunately.
I'm gradually changing my ways I behave around women and I'm deliberately going out of my way to avoid anybody under 18 because I think I suffer from pocd and that mixed with reminders of the way I treat those people are unbearably painful, I'm trying to heal some of the emotional wounds that caused me to act out by indulging in feminine things I was pushed away from by my emotionally abusive father and by my peer group, I'm also trying to understand how my behaviour makes women feel unsafe around me, I'm trying to actively make an effort to make things right.
Sorry if this is tmi, whenever I'm reminded of what I did I feel the need to get it off my chest, I still feel disgusted with myself to this day.
I'm trying to seek help to stop myself before I ruin my life completely by doing something far more severe.
@@icravedeath.1200brother, there's always an opportunity to change your life as long as you willing to, especially considering your age. You're life has only just began, you shouldn't think like it's too late and you're beyond fixing.
If I understood correctly, you have people around you who support you, that's good. If you have an opportunity (primary financial, if your country doesn't provide this kind of help), I would recommend you to seek professional help. If you struggling with the lack of emotional intelligence (I just suppose because you mentioned that you're autistic and it can play it's role), it would be great if you find someone who spesialized.
I'm autistic too and I had and still have kinda similar stuff. I can hurt people without even realising, so I usually notify people about my peculiarities and ask them to be honest when I do something wrong and explain to me why it's wrong and what to do to fix that.
If you wish to talk to someone, feel free to do so, my username in telegram is the same as here, I'm above 18 if that matters

The fact that you were able to recognize you were doing something toxic means you can change.
A good therapist, potentially some things like EMDR and DBT, and finding some accountability partners will give you the best chance to change your behavior by healing the trauma that drives the behavior/choices.
Learning to slow down, so you can choose actions instead of just reacting, and learning how to do your own emotional regulation will also help you.
@@icravedeath.1200It's never too late to change for the better and work towards a better life for yourself and everyone around you.
One thing I will recommend, because I did a lot of research into pocd because I experience a lot of the symptoms: removing yourself from the vicinity of minors will not remove the obsessions you feel in your head. If anything, it will attach those obsessions with anyone under 18, making them stronger than before. If you form positive/neutral connections with minors, it proves that your obsessions are NOT the only way you can exist around children. It gives your obsessions less control over your mental/emotional health and they can no longer control your actions :^)
It's nice to know that metal is a universal language

I'm not Indian, but I resonate with a lot of these lyrics. I was groped by a man in a mall, in front of my mother, who later denied what had happened to my face. Later in my life I was almost the victim of an attempted rape, by my boyfriend. Victims of rape should no longer be nameless, faceless numbers. We are no longer asking for recognition. We are ordering it.

“Need all men for what we’re solving” is an amazing thing to hear
Scandinavian here, playlists full of soft voices and melodies - love haunting kind of sad songs - quiet songs like musical poetry. I want my music to say all of the things I feel and have no words for in a pretty and soulful way. Something I can whisper along with and still feel understood.
That being said, I fucking love this song. I don't know the words and the culture is foreign, but the rage - the message. It's in my bones.
++++plus fuck yeah for trigger warnings and being considerate and responsible ❤
Some of the immigrants to your Scandinavian countries (Sweden especially) should especially take the advice from this music video
@@thespcrewroy8716 People in Sweden should rape less? I would argue people everywhere should rape less. As a victim I get to indulge in selfish thoughts of violence and anger: This piece of absolute art speaks to that (in regards to myself)- and to the mentality of community responsibility to stop a rampant issue of victimizing others.
People holding each other accountable and responsible for stopping problematic/rapist culture.
But I do not condone a government - mine or my neighbor's - to abuse their power against its' citizen - because you cannot treat a symptom of dysfunction with more dysfunctional behavior: You cannot make a person change by making them suffer, and a country cannot abuse their citizen and remain civilized.
That's not what my comment was meant to convey, and I apologize if I gave you some kind of impression by mentioning my roots. I only meant to highlight that I'm foreign to the subtleties and significance of the nuance in the video - and despite that, it still speaks to me in a way I understand and connect with.
I would rather my abusers be treated professionally and humanely (because we have the means to), so that they never abuse, rape, or molest another ever again, than giving in to satisfy my darkest and innermost desires of vengeance.
It's not my call to make, but since you replied with your comment here, I'll make my stance clear.
My monsters were born and bred from my own country's soil: And they're not the only monsters native to my country. We have our own issues with the old preying on the young - with violence, and with rape. We don't need to point outwards because the issue is not something suddenly arriving, it's been here since those who could and would began to take: And that issue is as old as human kind, directly related to how we nurture and treat our kids and each other.
Furthermore, I've been met with more kindness from complete strangers than my own family - my own friends and lovers would continue in ignorant bliss than confront wolves in their midst, or change their own predatory ways.
I wouldn't be so fast to condemn those foreign just because they seem unfamiliar. Your mind is conditioned to seek out what is familiar because you know what to expect and the unknown feels dangerous.
In Scandinavia we have many generations of familial bonding with our neighbors who look and sound and think similar to ourselves - but that doesn't mean that the traumatized asylum-seeking or hopeful immigrating population deserve any less of what we might offer: For would we not be some kind of monsters to prey on them? In a way, that is victimizing them for not being born and raised among us, and that is also monstrous, in my opinion.
It helps to think of all people as human beings, same as you - regardless of skin tone, heritage, or culture. We are people, and all people deserve a space for growth and understanding.
Please, be kind. Immigration politics are unnecessary in this forum. Rape is rape, no matter who does it.

Other commenters have spoken at length about the raw power and fury of the metal genre throwing its weight behind such an important message and about the local Indian instrumentation and cultural imagery at play, so I wanna point out something else that popped out at me. I am terribly fond of bilingual wordplay. I can't help but notice that the chorus chant of "De! De! De!" sounds to my English-speaking ears like "Die! Die! This song is a call to arms, for all decent people to stand up for protection of the innocent.
I've never heard a metal song that made me cry before, this really moved me. I wish more men felt this way, this righteous anger that burns on behalf of those who suffered immense cruelty.
I love how this song bounces between the primal rage of beating up rapists and a call for anyone who’s redeemable to join in and change society for the better. It makes no excuses but brings people together rather than creating division.
Well, he IS talking about division... ;)
@@ArabicPrincessIV Division of what? The halves of a rapist’s skull? I don’t get it.
I don't know if it's really bringing people together to simultaneously blame men for rape, thereby ignoring female rapists and male victims, and then suggest that only men can solve the problem by beating up rapists.
I realize that, in India, they legally don't acknowledge all forms of rape, but I'm from the US.
@@DrachonaTheWolf tbh, this is still a step in the right direction - the overwhelming amount of rapists are men, even if sometimes their victims are also men. Female rapists exist and they're horrible for sure, but most of the world - the West included - lets even male rapists get away; there are extremely powerful men - who each rape hundreds of women; and they were allowed to do so for _decades._ Yes, there are female rapists and they're horrible... but I don't know exactly how many of them have the reach, power and body count that male rapists often have. Currently, male rapists are the biggest threat; they simply aren't the only threat.
They also talked about "change their kind with my mind" but until then, they beat up the rapists.
I mean shit, there are male survivors here in the comment section supporting this song, so you're not even speaking out for some unheard or unseen victims.
@@DrachonaTheWolf Also, with the line "Fuck every man for himself; It's every man for every man and everybody else" like... you could also interpret "man" in the general "mankind" way, where all huMANs look out for each other, which would mean everyone looking out for all survivors.
But you just want to see things in an adversarial light where no one cares about the issues you're talking about, sowing more division instead of helping to solve the problem and be a part of the human collective working to make the world a better place.
Re-evaluate your priorities a little and learn when the fight you're talking about needs to happen; because there are definitely times where the points you're bringing up are good and needed.... but this isn't one of those times. At least not in the way you broached it.
This is surprisingly wholesome and uplifting. It's nice to see some positive masculinity in music these days that really speaks to a good cause.
Most positive men don't attract attention to themselves. This is a two-edged sword. We only tend to hear about the repeat, repeat, repeat offenders, which are a very small minority of absolute psychopaths.
While i think most sane people agree sexual violence is terrible, im not sure I would call singing about how badly you want to commit physical violence against them is "positive masculinity". I do understand people who feel the urge to be violent against people who harmed them or someone they know. But seems strange to use as a general message to make your music seem more "badass".
Check out the band Hatebreed!
Well, that's metal for you. Surprisingly wholesome and uplifting, once you get past "they are just screaming".

i think i commented this before when i first heard this song over a year ago but. fuck. i’ve survived sexual assault multiple times, and while this song gets me pumped up with the incredible beats and melody, it also makes me cry every single time i hear it by the end. it’s so beautiful and incredibly fucking powerful. this song has gotten me through terrible flashbacks to my trauma and gives me strength when i feel weak. endless thank you’s to Bollywood for making such an amazing song that resonates with so many people all over the world.

Seeing this group of men choose to use their talents, their passion, and their platform to boldly and unapologetically defend women and hold other men accountable.... Is one of the most powerful things I've seen in a damn long time. As a woman, I am moved. I am thankful. I am brought to tears. You guys have some serious talent, and you could've channeled that talent into a song about anything. But you didn't choose just anything. You chose this. Thank you.
It made me cry, too. Please share it. There are so many who need to hear it.
They are always bringing positivity, they even made a song for psychological issues
In prison, crimes against woman are frowned upon and not respected.
Go through their other songs like endurant, Jee Veree, and Yaad. They use their music as their way to shine a light on the things most people choose to turn away from or only talk about. Stay to the end and see they dont just talk but act.
Besides the fact they make phenomenal music this is the reason I will gladly share their songs to any who may have an interest.

GATG - Girish and the Chronicles (if you want some "Classic" new rock) band.
I like that the lead dancer painted herself in dark blue, which imply that she portrays herself as Kali, the goddess of destruction and power.
While various mythologies tend to associate goddess with beauty, love, motherhood, or fertility, Kali from Hindu mythology is associated with time, change, power, creation, and destruction. She is the illustration of Shakti and she destroys the evil in order to protect the innocent.
In a song about fighting sexual violence and protecting sexual assault victims, portraying Kali as an icon is very suiting, in my opinion.
Kali Maa is also a Mother Goddess. In some myths She is born from Durga's rage at Her children being harmed. Kali is sometimes viewed as an incarnation of the collective protective fury of mothers. She is also a primal Goddess, governing time, creation, destruction, revenge, and protection. Sometimes She is viewed as the Mother of mothers.
I love Her. I love this video, too.
I was hoping that she was going to have some killer lines, but her blue skin was good enough, almost looked like her natural skin!
Kali is, obviously, the Destroyer of Demons.
Is this not specifically Kali-Ma, in Her aspect of Destruction? But yeah...it works well for imagery.
I mean, most of the well known polytheistic religions and mythologies have war/death/destruction/hunt/etc goddesses.
Sekhmet, Menhit, Pakhet, Athena, Artemis, Diana, Minerva, Nerio, Vacuna, Bellona, Frigga, Dis, Gna, Amatarasu, on and on and on...
...indeed, it's more rare for a major polytheistic religion/mythology to NOT have a female warrior deity of some sort.
Holy crap! I watched this because I saw "Indian Folk Metal" and thought, "this could be entertaining", sort of as a joke. But holy f*ck that was incredible. Damn, the most powerful and meaningful song I've heard in a long time. I will be watching a lot more videos from this band.

I broke up a rape when I was 22 years old. It was crazy. I was a Marine Corps Reservist living in Las Vegas at the time. I pulled a firearm on him. I had to testify in court later on. The memory of that event is tough. But I'm proud that I didn't hesitate in the moment.
And I love this track!!!

Seeing men acknowledge the constant fear of sexual violence that women face is so, so valuable. And to not only acknowledge, but to comment on it, to offer solutions (change men, change patriarchal and sexist socities), and to offer protection as well (if you're an abuser, we smash your head in). This would be an amazing message and song coming from any country, but hearing this from an indian band, from indian men, makes it even more special. Thank you.

I'm curious, can you tell why does hearing this from an Indian band with Indian men makes it even more special? Thank you.
@@matchbox1275EDITED; I would recommend looking up statistics to do with violence against women, SA etc in India.
Honor and dowry killings are an issue as well, and female infanticide. Bare in mind this is NOT all areas of India, as someone else in the comments pointed out many major cities are very safe, but as in any country there's areas that aren't.
Also bare in mind India as a whole has lovely people, with rich cultures and an amazing array of languages, and amazing food.
It was brought to my attention this could be seen as unintentionally pushing the stereotype that Indian men are rapists, which is absolutely not my intention, hence I am bringing it up to ensure clarity
Big part of the problem is the ridiculous "us against them" that exist between genders and it really doesn't make sense. Men need to start seing sexual assault on women as sexual assault on their own, it's not the women's problem, it's our problem. Women are not other people, they are our people, an attack on women is an attack on everybody.
I just hope you know that the vast majority of men feel the same way this band does. Rapists are sub-human, worth less than the dirt beneath our feet, and can only live in fear of being found out by the rest of us.
Can't describe how happy I am that I clicked on this. Heals my angry metal heart

As a child sexual assault survivor, I always felt embraced by the content of other survivors, even though so many people complain about how "violence doesn't solve everything". But I never knew I could feel this good about the support and shout-out from guys who don't apparently know the trauma first-hand (because sexual assault against men is just as real), and yet go all the way out to meet me eye to eye in the rage.
This song has such a special place in my heart, now.
the lady in blue is Kali, the goddess of destruction. its really cool to portray Kali bringing the beatdown on the scum of this earth
Of course violent solves nothing, but whoever defines self-expression and violence, needs to reconsider the definition of self expression and violence.
Thinking or saying the things you angrily desire to do to those who have harmed you, that’s not violence, that’s venting. As long as it doesn’t exceed that and it’s not repetitive for years on end, meaning you’re not basically wallowing into the emotion and just expressing oneself like they are here, which I expect also you’re probably in the good so don’t worry, but anyways yeah I’m just describing and further validating that there’s nothing wrong here, and this does not go in the category of violence, rather self expression, which is important. Your feelings are hurt, and they need to be heard. It’s about time that we take away the stigma of expressing oneself in whatever means necessary as long as it’s not harming anyone. You don’t have to be nice and express yourself, that’s hindering. If you have to think about social norms while self expressing, then that’s sad. I wish you much healing, and much love and hugs 💕🤗
This is why I related with Korn so much
Violence may or may not solve nothing but people sure treat you differently when they know violence is on the table.

Aptly potrayed the essence of Mother Kali. She's the goddess of Blood & Death worshipped here in Bengal, India.
She resides over the domain of both life, and death. Even the name of our capital city Kolkata comes from Kalikatta (land of Kali).
She's both merciful, and rageful. She's the Devine Feminine for us.
The song is aptly named as well. ❤
I'm with everyone else left crying here :')
If words dont change them, bring the beat down.
What inspiring lyrics, truly.
That’s the truth!
Pure masculine aggressivness combined with a feminine energy and message. Having the dancers dressed as Goddess Kali is perfect as she's not only the personification of feminine power but divine righteous justice and bringer of change. And the "Dana Dan" is referencing her 'dance of death' where she famously danced with so much rage to kill an evil demon and save the Earth that she almost destroyed the entire world - a strong message for all abusers out there. This is brilliant.
Thank you for using the word feminist without hatred. As a feminist, I f**king fed up with antifemi f**kers who always bash feminism wrongfully. Also, I hate when people call themselves feminist and they are definitely not.
