It's kind of difficult to know how significant the success of this band is without knowing a little bit about Japanese society.
I actually went to a high school in the hometown of the two core members of Ningenisu. The guitar player, Mr. Wajima, and the bass player, Mr. Suzuki are about my age. I also played music when I was in high school, so I might have played at the same venues as these guys did back in the mid-1980s. There were only two live music venues in the town.
In Japan, going to a high school is not mandatory. And, you have to take a test to enter one high school out of several high schools in town. Those different high schools are ranked for their smartness. Passing the entrance tests is harder for smarter schools. So, a certain high school has the smartest kids in town. In their hometown of Hirosaki, Japan, there were 6 different high schools back then. I went to the 4th smartest high school. These guys went to the number one smartest high school. They are very intelligent gentlemen.
In Japan, which high school you go to determines which economic class citizen you will be. Because only people from the top smartest high schools went to good colleges that were recognized by good employers. These gentlemen went to such prestigious colleges that had a very good chance of getting jobs at prestigious employers. But then, they picked to play music instead. I am sure their parents were disappointed, though might have supported them.
The band started in the mid-1980s and it became professional in the early 1990s. Then they had a chance to be on a popular TV show, which made them known to Japanese audiences. Within the music industry, people appreciated their high musical skills. However, the band appeared in strange costumes. Because of how they looked, many people dismissed the band. In the 1990s I actually knew the band only by their name, but I did not have a positive image because I remember how they looked stupid on TV.
The TV show lost its popularity pretty quickly. The band was underappreciated for a long time. The Japanese economy also went down significantly for a long time. The members could not pay bills without taking up part-time jobs, and it continued until just a few years ago. I am sure they could have got more steady jobs because of their good education and intelligence. But they kept on making music. This is, to me, such an amazing determination. Their music does not conform to the ways of commercial success. They make music from their true artistic urge and perform for their love of music. Because the band was underappreciated for such a long time, their international success seems impossible. Or, maybe, it happened naturally because their pure artistic creation moved people's emotions globally. To me, their success seems miraculous. And I love watching their success.

@@Rubytuesday957 I'd say that Ningen Isu is definitely a good place to start because they're not too harsh metal-wise. (i.e. no harsh vocals).
Aside from Heartless Scat, I also like their song "Namahage" as well as "Great King of Terror". Both songs have really fun guitar solos.
So, this is where I would start, then I'd see what metal bands RUclips recommends to you from there! Metal includes so many different subgenres, and I hope you'll find a subgenre or two that's compatible with you :)

@Rubytuesday957 If you want more fun metal like this check out Korpiklaani (Scandanavian band) another great Japanese metal band does something called "power metal" which is faster and oftentimes filled with fantasy and grandiose themes. They are called Galneryus. If you like power metal there's also stuff like Rhapsody and Dark Moor (early albums are amazing but new stuff is still great as well).
Aside from that, I always recommend checking out older metal bands like Megadeth, Judas Priest, Metallica, and other classics. Hope you enjoy your journey into metal. It's a very diverse genre. You'll go from screaming to orchestras, to amazingly fast guitar solos.

イカ天時代に知ったバンドだが、当時はこの人たちをギャグと受け止めればいいのか真剣に音楽をやっている人たちと受け止めればいいのか分からず戸惑った記憶がある。
出で立ちと歌詞はギャグみたいだけど当時から演奏はみなさん凄くて圧倒されました。
とにかく記憶に残るバンドだったので、世界でバズって嬉しい。

I only just discovered this. This band is absolutely has my jaw on the floor. The lyrics come with a depth and sincerity that you don’t find anywhere these days. The raw talent is absolutely incredible.
