Formed in 2010. Their major debut single “ Ijme, dame, zettai" along with 2nd single “Megistune" both ranked in the Top 10 Oricon chart in Japan. In March 2014, they took to the stage of Nippon Budokan for a 2-Days gig making them the youngest female act to ever perform there. Their 1st studio album BAYBMETAL made it into the US Billboard chart. In summer of the same year, they embarked on their first World Tour, performing on the Main Stage at UK’s prodigious festival Sonisphere Festival 2014 in front of 65,000 festival goers, and supporting Lady Gaga on her “ArtRave: The Artpop Ball” 2014 Tour. In fall they were back for additional headline shows in Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City and O2 Academy Brixton, London. In January 2015, they headlined a show at the 20,000 capacities Saitama Super Arena, and in June 2015, they headlined a show at the 25,000 capacities Makuhari Messe. In summer of 2015, BABYMETAL received awards from prominent UK music magazines “Kerrang!” and “METAL HAMMER”. They then performed in front of a staggering 90,000 people at the prestigious Reading and Leeds Festival in August. This December, BABYMETAL are to take the stage again for 2 consecutive days at Japan’s Yokohama Arena pulling a total of 26,000 people before returning to the UK in April 2016 to headline London’s The SSE Arena, Wembley. Back then, a lot of metal heads hated this band because of its cute girl image. Today, it's considered a fun twist on the genre.
Metalheads tend to be very parochial. They like their specific turf, but not necessarily anyone else's.
New genres of metal always struggle, and always will. Thrash, Speed, Doom, Death, Symphonic - - none of it took off instantly.

@@PhantomofjudasYo puedo decir que tampoco me gustan, pero pues sigue siendo admirable el trabajo de las chicas, simplemente me parece una mezcla muy extraña, prefiero escuchar el j-pop y el metal por separado, aunque sin tomar en cuenta las voces y viendo solo lo instrumental he de decir que está bastante bien en algunas canciones, aunque es raro porque tampoco quedaría bien poner a otro vocalista, otro punto fuerte sería la coreografía, que incluso si no te gusta hay que admitir que es creativa y llama bastante la atención.

@@CousinRoman90 bruh, the other 50 or so unique songs in their discography disagree. Even among BM fans Gimme Chocolate isn't the most definitive Babymetal song, it's the one that got viral. In my opinion Gimme Chocolate is more like the gateway drug to please the masses, their more hardcore stuff lie beyond. Give all their songs a listen you certainly won't be disappointed.

For those still debating whether this is metal, the following are indisputably metal: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Doro, Warlock, Delian, Nightwish. I don't think anyone here would dispute those.
Which means "Remember Tomorrow", "Stained Class", "Love Me In Black", "Fur Immer", "The Gathering", and "Ghost Love Score" are equally indisputably in the heavy metal genre.
So it's self-evidently not the vocal style that makes a song metal, and if a song about playing cards is more metal than a song about stealing everyone's chocolate, I say people's priorities are messed up.
This is metal. People might like it or not like it, same as every other band, but there's nothing intrinsically not metal about Babymetal.
It's an intriguing fusion, not 100% convinced of it yet, but I would defend this group to the last chocolate bar over their genre.
