I love AnyRail, paid the full price given the size of the loft layout I'm making a start on and haven't regretted it!
Just one more quick tip, when shortening flexitrack, if you hold down shift while you shorten, it will keep the piece of track nice and straight for you even if your mouse moves a bit!

Thats super, I will maybe invest at some stage but enjoyed what the trial had to offer which was nice. Ah shift, our faithful friend thats super thank you.

Anyrail also works on Linux with Wine, that's what I do.

Hi, Have you considered using PVC Form Board for your baseboard? It is less resistant to warping (bending) after the track is laid and not affected by water. It does not perish neither affected by wood rot and is very durable.
    Cheers,
    Michael.

Thanks for showing us how you do things... in detail. I like the patter, very informative.... But I always worry about those sleeper gaps where rails join. You will poke some sleepers in, won't you? All best for Saturday's Open Day. Would be there if I wasn't on the other side of the world.

Hello. This my first time viewing. I must say your layout construction is lightweight but the track plan is impressive. My most interest was the cork sheet you cut up into multiple strips. Would i like to purchase this. My concern was such narrow trackage and i know this from ATHEARN trains trucks & many others with turnouts & curved radius. Peco is popular & good track but i don't like you have to keep driving holes into the rail ties that's annoying when i can be driving the nails & holes the can be ready made. Good video will continue to view. 🎥👍✅

WOW so glad I found your channel, I have watched a few channels that I found good and helpful, but this was a great video, showing how to make track plans etc... I am just getting back into the hobby after 25 years away, gonna collect the standard 00 Locos etc ( I have in mind what I want ) for future when I have alot more room to make a display, (Pecketts and class 08 shunters are my favs) but gonna for now do a 009/N gauge layout and this has helped me no ends to think about my future plans! thank you! just subbed and gonna watch more content through today :)

Nice :) Just a tip for future use of cork, I bought some self adhesive rolls on eBay that are already cut to size for half a track width, makes it much easier to fit down and has enough stretch for tight corners.

    Hi Tris.
I have used a fibreboard that is available from the well known large Swedish D-I-Y store. They are available in sections of 101cm x 60cm and are 3cm thick. Each section only costs £7. This type of baseboard consists of a fibreboard top and fibreboard base, one side being coated in white acrylic paint. The sides have plastic strips and the inside consists of a paper/card filling that is honeycomb structured. The paper is 75% recycled (minimum). The framework is made of particle board which consists of amino-formaldehyde based resin that is used to bind the particles together.
Particle board framework needs pre-drilled holes that are 1-2mm smaller than the screws so as to allow it to get a grip on them. DO NOT self-tap as framework will split over time. Screws may eventually loosen so may need tightening every once in a while if structure is being used for supporting moving parts (not trains), in which case specialised fasteners can be used which are known as confirmat screws.
The advantage is that unlike plywood etc., they do not bend when moved, and can take weight without distorting as they are constructed for use as table tops for which supporting legs are also available. They are not that heavy to move around and are ideal for exhibition display layouts.
Take a peek at the YT channel Iron Horse Railways as Craig has used them for his relatively new layout.
    Paul. 👍

Hi, I would be interested if the Board stays flat. Fingers crossed I hope you have better luck than me!! I have tried using that thin pine strip on 3 different base board projects. Similar construction to yourself and without fail it has warped over time. I have tried using it to make I beams with 5 inch high (wide) 6mm osb board and that bent due to the pine. More recently a base for my Tyne Dock Iron ore loading stage and that is only 220mm by 1920mm and it has twisted slightly even though I applied yacht varnish. Great Fun little layout and video. Regards Steve

Me too, I thought I will go light weight but if it all goes wrong I can deal with it later on. Its a small board so hopefully the small size goes in its favour. I'm glad you enjoyed the video though.

@@OONeal I am experimenting with PU Foam insulation board. Just built a small test track to practice using static grass etc. It is only just about 1.2m long. See how stable it is? I know Luke Towan uses similar in his Diorama's dropped into what is a picture frame? Next time you are in Rugby drop into Wickes check out how light and stable it is? I have enjoyed watching a lot of your videos and the engineering. Just started out on my own You-Tube videos, the one I have just done on Cling film for removable coal loads has the foam board test track in it. Cheers Steve

I find it much easier to fit point motors with extended rods underneath the board, then you just need to drill a hole big enough for the movement. 8mm is ample

    • @OONeal
      @OONeal  2 года назад +1

I have played with that in the past and managed to get them working but I do find it fiddly, I have seen this way being done in the past and wanted to try it for this layout as there are only 2 point motors on the layout. The whole Idea of the layout was to try a few new ideas at each stage.
