From a functionality point of view. The Ronson will do the job almost as good as the Zippo. Not having a pusher on the spring for the flint is a negative as you will damage the spring eventually when the flint runs out. Maybe not the first time or the second, but eventually you will have to replaced the spring due to damage. Other then that, they both will do pretty much the exact thing. The difference is that it does not have the flavor of the Zippo. What I want to say is that a Zippos charm is the fact that it is pretty much the same design as 80 years ago. It did not change other then get different designs. Where the Ronson insert just looks to modern. People that go through the trouble of having a lighter that requires you to change flints, fill it with smelly fuels and such are people that are inspired by the nostalgic value of the Zippo. By modernizing the design, you take away the flavor. At least that is my point of view. I love Zippo lighters. Not because they are convenient, they are not. There are much better modern lighters that require less maintenance, operator longer, remain full even if not in use longer. But a Zippo owner does not own it because it is convenient. They own it because it has flavor, history, spirit. Or at least that is my thinking.
interesting , I haven't noticed that , but I always have a bunch of zippos on the go . Might be fun to "torture" on and see how the wick goes, wicks are cheap , but I hate cleaning the "chimney"
+Matthew Sullivan cheep Chinese flints (as found on e-bay) are inconsistent , I have a bunch that seem very "hard" on the sparking wheel and dont provide that big spark that lights on first try . Luckily they are cheap and fit well in to most household trash cans .
Not the flints - Says right on the package of both Zippo and Ronson flints "Made in Austria" "Packaging in the USA). Their regular windproof lighters are made in Bradford, PA - USA. Some other things are manufactured there but some are manufactured in other places (Like my pocket ashtray and their keychain fuel canister are made in China)
I stopped using ronson fluid in my zippo years ago , i noticed a difference ! Im not putting ronson down , i just prefer zippo ! Now zippo makes ronson !?! They look and sound cheap , as shown in the video ! Nice job T.B !
The fins were a smart move, though they were poor quality. In my opinion, that'd be one of the few ways Zippo could improve the functionality of their lighters, if they were willing to give up their stylistic hole grid. That, and some good quality seals on the bottom of the insert, and lining the cap. It'd make for a pretty rugged lighter.
@@ressiebee4815 You're right. But it wouldn't really hurt to have both the 'classic' Zippo style with its flaws and vaporization and a modern rendition of the zippo, with a seal and all that.
All the Ronson lighters I owned was junk where the Zippo lighters gave me years of service and I have some of them around now and they are the ones I purchased at military bases and is valuable to me.
As another person commented already...Zippo and Ronson are the same company...Ronson is the cheaper version of the Zippo. What I really wanted to mention is that in America many Zippo's come in a package like the one the Ronson is in, in this video...I'm convinced that those cool Zippo box versions are sent overseas as I've never seen them in like Walmart. Maybe higher end stores or something.
I have Ronsons and Zippos. Zippos are great while out of the package Ronsons suck. The reason the Ronson sucks from out of the package is because it's packed almost solid with Rayon and not enough wick is exposed. To make it as good (better in some respects) than a Zippo is to remove the packing and wick. Repack it with cotton and a zippo wick (as with Zippos make sure there is just a tiny bit of wick showng just above the wind guard otherwise they choke) and bingo. you'll have a lighter that's easier on your thumb.
I would have done a wind proof test because Zippos stay lit in wind but it’s not really like you could light anything the Ronson looked more protective
I have the ronson but there is no flame beside the engravings and it is shaped exactly like a zippo. The insert looks like the ronson one in the video.
Перед использованием любой новой зажигалки Zippo, а в данном случае и Ronson необходимо переложить фитиль внутри инсерта "змейкой", Тогда будет Вам радость, и поджиг с первого раза, и заправку будет держать намного больше.

Ronson: nothing worse than a zippo but it's not a zippo so it sucks.
