My grandfather had one much like that, one day we were going through his old tool chest, the 1st thing of many, he threw in the trash was that light. Upon watching this video I sadly think of what might’ve been. Once again, beautifully done.
This is indeed how torches were made back in the day. Mine was very similar. They were actually not very good, but you revived this one to its former glory. Thank you for the video.
I remember one of these on my mum’s nightstand when I was a kid in the UK in the 1980s. Probably something she picked up in a junk shop so I’m guessing 1970s. You’re right, it never was very good! I was probably 8 before my hands were strong enough to move the switch, it was heavy as hell with those huge batteries, and the beam was pathetic 😂
Amazing work. Great results. Creative use of the lathe. Great gasket replacement. Beautiful polishing. A masterpiece refurbished with respect and care! Thanks!
It would really be interesting to see all these restorations get 'modernized/improved'. Like in this case installing some high efficiency led lights, extra gaskets, maybe rechargeable li-ion batteries with charging protection circuit etc. Something like Sleeper cars but in this case would be sleeper restorations...
Thank you very much for your video. You have restoration tools. I am now 63 years old and ı used to use many years ago same torch. I would like to say that there is a large diameter spring inside of bottom part that pushes the the movable part to the battery negative pole. In your original torch this part I mean spring was missing and there was a clock part in this spring hole. Thanks and best wishes.
I love the art deco early 20th century style. do you know when, who and where it was made? I really like that back then even simple utilitarian thing like a torch still had to look good and have style.
Very thorough accomplishment Takes some patience ! ;) Only issue i noticed was with how the restoration of the top ring cap was addressed it's not fully original now with no more rib design round the top i understand that was a difficult task to get just right However overall incredible achievement 👏 👌 I'm a bit of a collector of old flashlights 🔦 with 2,500 +
0:05 - Rusty flashlight ...,0:11 Made of copper. Copper doesn't rust...the flashlight in the video is made from brass and brass don't rust either....just sayin'..... Still a great job on the restoration.👍👍
The dome has lost all its enamel effect and has become blakish. How to polish it so that the enamel effect is restored? What powder/solution should be used to make it bright??
Does the nickel (or whatever other metal you use) adhere underneath where the wire makes contact with the object, or does it leave a small sliver uncoated?
Loved the video. Never would have thought a simple device was so complex. Talk about watching a craftsman in action. Absolutely gorgeous!

I love the look of these older flashlights, and the tech history is even cooler. Thanks for the video and well done!
Very nice restoration. Thank you! My Dad had the silver colored ones during the 50's and 60's as a policeman.
And my father as a former pilot back to 70s and 80s in Olympic Airways 🇬🇷
That was the flashlight of my childhood ❤️ In comunism time, in my country, this type of flashlight was the best one. Nice memories...❤️

Holy cow! The number of parts for a flashlight! Sure looked nice after you finished. And making a tool to re-roll the bead... 😲
Love your work but question why you use wire cutters in some places where small pliers or needle noses would work better.
Love the vintage look of the flashlight 🔦.
How do you have so many commercial tools? You're one lucky man.
Your work is impeccable.
That's one beautiful and very old flashlight. Phenomenal job. Soooo many pieces. Idk how you do it. Well done sir.

Those are supposed to be brass but look like gold (classic gold and light pink gold). Outstanding restoration.
Quedo hermosa la linternita! Difícil restauración! Gracias por este otro vídeo. Hasta la próxima!

Excellent well done, okey 👍

We used to have many flashlights with that design in Bulgaria some 15 years ago!
Can you give a source for your insulation gaskets? Or did you make them yourself? Thank you for sharing. Lovely work.
Good hit👍👍👍
Nice, specially that head part was really good.
Grandfather of flashlight 🔦...

Your dedication towards your work is amazing.
Fantastic work!
dude spends first 4 minutes just dismantling the poor thing. (note: this is not a complaint. i enjoyed that just as much as the restoration)
Good and awesome work... Keep it up..
Impresionante 👏👌 saludos amigo genial 👍
7:50 beautiful
Very well done restauration! BTW, it's brass not copper ;-)

Good results & good works
Does the nickel (or whatever other metal you use) adhere underneath where the wire makes contact with the object, or does it leave a small sliver uncoated?
Good result! Greetings from Germany!
I have used this torch in my childhood
Like gold, but the valuable platina?
I followed you from Thailand
Nice job bro. Use Handglouse
Does anyone know what the black liquid is that he paints on the steel to stop it rusting. Great restoration 👍🏻
Its a metal blueing solution.. not a paint... It basically keeps ur metal from rust... Mostly used in gun steels manufacturing...
I've only seen aluminum ones in this style, which is really rare
great job :)👍
What make is this torch/flashlight?
Childhood flashlight ❤️❤️❤️
Você é fera cara gostei do seu trabalho magnífico. Você é um.restaurafor de classe ....
.
Excellent work.
(Made by GuangDong Factory)
Not a single plastic part. Extremely well done for todays standards.
Amazing.😊👍
Ever heard of the ship of theseus?
Good ! Very good !
Nicely done!
Very Nice,
WHAT A PLEASING RESTORATION!
well done. Good job.
looks like brass, not copper. but beautiful job restoring.
Great video, just call it a Torch, it's faster to say and accurate as the light does't flash :)
So what do you call those wooden sticks with flames at the top of them - you know, the ones the villagers carry in Frankenstein movies?
i expected you nickel all the piece, but look nice copper and shiny too
