I'm Thomas and I do videos and reviews on mechanical keyboards ranging from the most sickening modern RGB gaming keyboards to vintage hardware relics, or sometimes keycaps or keyswitches ranging from Cherry MX to Alps SKCM to IBM buckling springs and anything in between.

man casually sipping nuclear waste while perusing a keyboard, nice

Vortex is kinda nostalgic to me. The Vortex Tab 90M with mx browns was the first mechanical keyboard I got and used for multiple years before I got sucked into custom mechs. It's what made me discover and love the 96% layout, although it's still not very popular so I've mostly transitioned over to 75% for daily use.
Thomas' sick voice still sounds better than my normal voice 😑
I wonder if it's his real voice or if he's using a voice filter lol
your voice sounds relaxing after a day of work, makes me feel relaxed. Thank you for this review +1 sub
Whoa… that was trippy! My brain immediately recognized it as very familiar, but it took a second to figure out. I got a chance to use the original Macintosh back in 1984. If I recall correctly it was all beige, matching the computer and mouse.
Picked up one of these and put Clickiez switches in it w/ SA keycaps, and removed the massive silicone dampener from inside. Quite happy with the value for the money.
i stg i cant stop watching these videos the cool looking keyboards and cool looking drinks are so fun to watch
Oh you beat me to it xD I was planning to buy this as my I-rocks build since their solder pcb pin layout is hybrid of mx and alps
You'd think with all the MX switch keyboards that you get, you'll probably get an MX switch opener. But you still going old school with the small flathead. 😅
Anyways, becuase of the quite roomy plastic case, will you do a sound demo with BOX Jades and Zeal Clickies on this keyboard in the review?
Nice keyboard :-) Yeah, wireless dongles are usually not interchangeable, sometimes not even from the same manufacturer. That's why Logitech created the Logitech unifying receiver which, of course, is interchangeable.
Don't drink waterglycol, it may taste a little sweet but it is meant to put in your radiator
mmm antifreeze 🤤
They said two stage springs gives it more snappier feeling, it feels faster when the key return back up than the regular spring. Me honestly not noticing a big difference, but maybe because I'm not heavy typist myself, but I can see why some people like it. Can't wait to see this on the review and your take on it.
I love the progressive ones that Akko uses. I ordered some Gateron G Pro Silver 2.0 with regular springs, and some Akko CS Silvers with the progressive ones. Even though the overall profiles of the switches are kinda similar, the progressive springs really work wonders in a short-travel switch.
@@combinemanPL I'm not really into short travel switches myself but yeah that may works for them. I do like to use something like long pole switches, which idk if you can call it short travel (it's still shorter than the regular 4mm) is just very satisfying to bottoming out, like my JWK epsilon that also comes with long pole and progressive springs.
I am using everglide aqua kings v3 on my daily wfh keeb, and can fully agree that bottoming out on a long pole feels nice. Might give a shot to the JWK epsilons then, as the everglides have a 'normal' spring if I'm not mistaken.
@@combinemanPL yep aquaking is overall a great switch nonetheless, keep in mind that epsilon weight a bit more than aquaking (68g if im not mistaken) which is, heavier, especially with the progressive spring, that makes it a bit tiring to type for my liking and one of the reason why I change to SOTC switch as a daily driver. Is a bit similar in terms of feeling, but a bit lighter (I think it also use a normal spring if im not wrong) and also have the same slight leaf crunch problem. While I prefer SOTC, i still like using epsilon occasionally since i like it's thockier sound. Both smooth af in stock, nicer factory lube than aquaking v2 if i remember correctly (never tried v3 I heard it's way better factory lube so it might be similar).
I swapped 69 gram two stage springs into my mx black hyperglides. Along with the snappy return, more of the spring weight is felt at the beginning of the key travel. I like them because it gives the feeling of a heavier spring without having the high 80 gram bottom out of the normal mx black springs.
Best improvement over the original is that the ISO Return key isn't _anorectic_ !
When you overclock a Debian system, the logo changes to reflect that change, I do like the beige though.
Fucking loves a Gollum, that man.
Do you know of any alps pcb's in a 60% format I could use for a build??? Help!
Is that an unsleeved coiled cable? Since I'm into old keyboards I like chonky coiled cables, but pretty much all the modern coiled ones I've seen either have annoying braided sleeving (Paracord or similar), or are pitiful in the girth department.
What’s the recipe you used for the drink? Looks yummy 😊
Blue curacao, double vodka, orange juice, lemonade topper
Do they offer a version without circumcised corner keys?
Yes they do!
Interesting to see Thomas measure snot volume to Imperial units...
Extra snot power! Maybe we've finally found a use for them :p .
The ton(tonne) he likely used is the metric one! An imperial ton is 2000 pounds, while a metric tonne is 1000 kilograms
love that shirt!
if only they used the og alps switches...
I believe it may have an alps/cherry PCB.
@@bobweiram6321If you look closely, you can see that it only has sockets for Cherry MX-style switches.
The original M0110 had an older type of high-profile Alps switch that wouldn't fit in this case.
the pcb should be alps compatible.
I will order one soon to check it out.
Probably will do a clicky build with whites or maybe some oranges ?
@@retr0_fps oh nice, might harvest some switches from the AEK if i end up purchasing this
Ah: a Mac Classic keyboard. Edit: No: Macintosh Plus. The Classic added a numeric island.
FR4 plate not brass. Cool keyboard
I know it's _supposed_ to be an "X" but when I look at that logo I can't help but read "VORTEH."
Their logo designer could have just gone with comic sans and the result would still look better and definitely be easier to read, too 😆
Oh man, I can't unsee that now xD .
Is that the Drunkdeer under your monitor stand?
looks like a keychron k8
the beauty of metric,.. 3 qubic meters DO weight 3 tons, assuming the snot weights about the same as water
what is the cocktail recipe?
Blue curacao, double vodka, orange juice, lemonade topper
cubic tons? sounds imperial...
If there can exist _fluid_ _ounces_ then surely there must exist _fluid_ _tonnes_ as well, mustn't it?
Double stages spring offers a more consistance feeling across the keystroke and a snappier top out, but it should only be the case with medium/heavy spring. With a lighter sping like the Gateron Pro White, it would only make it too light
It might be based on the Apple M1001 but the colour scheme makes it look like the dreaded PCjr keyboard 😅
The G is for gigahertz. 2.4g USB dongle and what not.
I forgot to mention, but if you end up drinking schnapps + lemon tea... make sure to get _sweet_ lemon tea :3
The best font is objectively Single Stroke Vertical Gothic Lettering, like what's used on IBM beamspring keyboards and Olivetti typewriters.
where is ctrl
Lovely keyboard but not practical for me personally. Also looks really plasticy but I’m guessing the original was all plastic too. Either way it would make a good addition for a collection but not a daily driver.
Feker Alice 98 review ? I know you hate them but you are the only one whom i trust..
98% is the best %, closely followed by 96%.
I heard the software is terrible and that some people can't even get the software at all. I'm waiting for Keychron to come out with an equivalent that supports QMK/VIA.
I have a Feker Mechanic 2. Individual key colors are not settable in static mode. Never buying Feker again. Also the software vanished from the net. It was linked on Google file drop for extra shiftyness.
I like the retro style of the keyboard, but I myself would like to have a ctrl-key at the usual location below the shift key.
Well I wouldn't, because I choose to only use keyboards with the ctrl key in the proper location: left of the A key... but this keyboard has an even worse layout than a typical modern keyboard. The designer of this keyboard must really, really love caps lock.
@@serqetry Yes, that's correct--the control key is supposed to be on the home row, for easy access when typing control sequences. It's just that, for some reason I can't fathom, 99% of keyboards made after 1984 or so seem to be really, really confused and wrong about this.
@@MatthewHillYes it's infuriating that this happened to keyboards... it makes no sense whatsoever. I use a NeXT keyboard, Atari ST keyboard, and Sun keyboard with the Ctrl and Esc keys in the correct locations.
@@serqetry And backspace directly above enter, of course?
@@MatthewHill Absolutely. The way they put extra wide backslash keys there these days is also ridiculous. It's as if people want to pound on caps lock and backslash like they're pinball flipper buttons or something.
Jesus they want $150 for a plastic keyboard? My DIY keyboard with all the bells and whistles was $150 and i could kill a man with it. That thing looks like i could snap it over my knee.
My DIY 60% keyboard that weighs five pounds only cost me about 150 because I bought other people's mistakes. The Aluminum Case alone was 150 new.
the original KKHB keyboards and topre boards...far more expensive, and plastic, untill you get them and experience using one of those boards, it's really good
Hey Brother, take it easy, the deadlines will still be there when you start feeling better. I can send you some filler vids for your channel of me getting kicked over and over in the ballz by a elderly goat on some type of mind altering substance
As an american i genuinely did not realize how stupid 3 cubic tons was until you corrected yourself
Really a sucker for numpads. Wish companies would do more 96% designs to appease both the space-saving consumer and people who need to work with numbers 😅
96%? Like an XT keyboard ?
Would be cool too if they would offer a separate Numpad in a similar aesthetic.
they spent too much on branding that they couldn't afford to also put it on the keycap puller
I think this should be for Mac only.
if you're having a snot problem why are you drinking it from a glass?
Or: is that Shrek seed in you're drinking?
