your question is just like the game....unfinished
Take into account the amount of time, people and money involved in the project. The result, so far, is this video. Does anyone really think it's all right? and please do not use terrible ""AAA"" games as an excuse. Use as a parameter games of honest companies that deliver what they promise and deliver what their money pays, such as Larian and CD Projekt Red. It is undeniable that Chris should have something more affordable to give to buyers of this game, given the time and money available to the project. From the beginning I admired this project and waited for this game, promises were made and I put my money in. I still hope that this game will be good someday, I hope that everything that was promised will be fulfilled, but that does not blind me to what is wrong with this project.

WinchesterDelta1 A missile is A) smaller and B) faster than anything bigger than itself. That’s how reality works, small objects accelerate faster. If it can guide itself to a target, in space where it only has to adjust direction (which it will do faster than the target, absolutely). You would have to have some means of distracting it or destroying it far enough away to dodge the debris field (as dangerous as the intact rocket when friction against the air cannot slow it down) or else it will hit you. Similar logic applies to aircraft, but aircraft have the option of outranging a missile (that is, getting outside the spherical space where the missile can actually hit them and waiting for it to fall to earth). You cannot be out of missile range in the same solar system. Note the fact we can put a satellite in orbit of Saturn while retaining enough fuel to keep it from falling into the gravity well for literal decades.
We haven’t missed with a self-guided rocket that was in range and wasn’t malfunctioning since the technology was invented.
(Edit) Then again, malfunctioning military equipment is a fact of mortal existence that cannot be overcome. No matter what it is, how perfectly it works in the lab, the military will discover something wrong with it. So a missile that randomly decides it wants to chase that star in particular instead of the actual target can happen. In fact the soviet nuclear detection system (the most important computer system in one of the strongest world powers in recent history) once decided the sun was an exploding nuclear bomb on the east coast of the country. Technology isn’t perfect.
@@dashiellgillingham4579 That does also assume the missile is a 'Lock on type'. If it isn't, and you miss, well, yeah, bad day for someone, somewhere.
+Alexander Beckinsale A missile that doesn’t ‘lock on’ is a waste of a self-propelled munition. You aren’t going to hit anything mobile with it at the ranges where you would use missiles over ballistics in the first place. Even modern US bunker-busters are guided rather than dumb fired, and those are only ever meant to be fired at buildings.

@@tomgu2285 I play alot of SC and see how that game takes a LONG time to get decent patches out due to most of the team working on SQ42. If we don't see anything on the project this year, thats cap.

The closest most other games effectively have is Pre-release purchase, which leaves a window of up to 6 months for you to expire before the game's release (in the case of Cyberpunk 2077, maybe a year or so - we'll see)
In Cloud Imperium's case they have had backers' money for up to 5 years now, plenty of time for a more significant mortality rate between payment and product release than other games, and they are still a long way from ever releasing a finished title.

If you turn the sound down and watch this you can tell there's almost nothing for the player to do - virtually on rails, the odd cut aways from what little action there is jarring. No wonder they haven't released it, it's long been bested by other games. Dissapointing.

ODeezee Fo Sheezee mass effect, dawn of war, gears of war, and halo are some space games that are leaps ahead in terms of writing and aren’t walking simulators with no sense of direction like this mess is lmao.
@@Radbiker33357 so you don't understand English then? First, it has not been bested by any of those games as those games came out well before Star Citizen was even announced unless ofc you are referring to Mass Effect Andromeda, in which case all I can say is...O.o
Not to mention that Squadron 42 isn't even out yet for us to compare it to, but bested implies relative to it's contemporaries, not games that were out decades before.
Second, none of those games are even comparable to this game as they are essentially "corridor" narratives with little interactivity with the game world. Hell you cannot even call them space games as all you do is just fps in them, whereas you can fly spaceships and other vehicles, as well as space walk in Squadron 42.

@Alex A I would suggest you to watch two latest videos from Digital Foundry channel and also this 1 hour gameplay but with Chris Robert´s commentary. That is a good start to understand how complex, new and advanced technology CIG is inventing. People are spoiled theese days by copy pasted games from Ubisoft, EA and others, but what CIG is doing is literally science of modern computer/netwrk tech and nobody did that before so it is obvious they can´t do it in 4-5 years. I too am a bit angry that I must still wait but I understand why. Sadly many people refuse to do proper research of how is SC/SQ42 development progressing and what exactly are developers doing, as it is easier to just bash them for long development time.

Anyone claiming this to be "too boring" is clearly not the target audience. I have my doubts and concerns about Star Citizen, but it being slow and atmospheric is _not_ one of them.
I think it looks amazing it seems that most people are so use to having a lot stuff happening at once and so fast that recon missions and exploration doesn’t need to be fiel with action
Yeah, most of the complainers are COD kids who want to dolphin dive and 360 no scope. This is a simulator, I know most of the kids that is too hard and difficult for them which is good.. leaves the mature adults to play
Have you actually tried to play the latest version of the game since Dec 2018? If so, post back here and let us know how your FPS rate went. Or the fact you may no longer be able to play because your $1,000+++ real life USD ship wasn't insured -----and you managed to get it destroyed/blown up. LMFAO
@@simsdiver5201 FPS has increased massively! Lots of optimizations have been done. Its also alpha still, so you don't lose your shit, you get it back pretty much right away. Ships also come with a really long time of insurance btw... more than enough to earn the cost back in game anyway... so really not a concern. Maybe learn a bit about this before you speak out of your ass?

I think it'll be released 1st quarter (maybe 2nd quarter) of 2022. Chris Roberts said he will be moving near the main squadron 42 studio later this year to finish it up.

I don't care if this game is taking long because the devs show us real working progress. Not the bullshit trailers from other companies that are not indicative of real gameplay experience and end up pushing out downgraded products. This is a massive project and they should take their time. I'm tired of Divisions and Mass Effect Andromedas.

Chris tbh considering they are selling the game to the general public, selling in game purchases. The game is in a "stage" where you can play core functions of the game why can't people just be able to label themselves as "open development".
Your game is not in alpha, its not unreleased, you are asking for players to buy the game to play now, selling ingame purchases and subscriptions. The game is out. Its just going to be an evolving game where iterations upon iterations are going to be made upon it.
Casey Winter they are selling alpha access in order to fund the game because they have no publisher. if they can't let them play early builds, what will they buy? pillows? it's an open-access alpha
Diego Reyes And? Your point? Games in "open alpha" or "open beta" are meaningless if you are monetizing your game like any other product. The product is out, people can buy it, its just (SHOCKING) still being worked on. Companies use the terms of early access, open alpha and beta as a shield. And again the game ITSELF IS ALREADY BEING MONETIZED with extra purchases and subscription services.
I don't give a rats ass that these funds are going into the game, because you know what? THATS WHAT EVERY FUCKING GAME COMPANY DOES. "Oh man we can use our profits for future products". While Star Citizen is using its funds for the same product their profits are going towards feeding their project more to iterate on the same product.
Example Warframe. The game has been out for years and Im not sure if it does still have the open beta tag at this moment but it most certainly did for YEARS even after major content updates that revamped mechanics and monetizes ingame.
Look I'm not bashing Star Citizen, I'm merely pointing out the obvious. The game has already launched but still being worked on. This idea that a game is in open alpha or beta when the game is IN FACT out, has ingame monetizations, a subscription service along with the product you don't get the shield of "oh its not finished yet".
I am looking forward to seeing Star Citizens progress but all of you guys should stop fooling yourselves. The game is out. Not done but its launched, it might never be done due to what their vision is looking like. A persistent online mmo but its out.

those skin texture it's like earlier last gen from early 2014, animation is fluid cuz it's mocap, but damn those just bad when next gen is just a few month away.
Imagine if they had actually focused on one project at a time, we could be playing this game.
nah, they wouldn't have nearly as much funding. Most of the money comes from the excitement of the PU.
A lot of the Assets for SQ42 and PU are required for both. I believe 2/3 to 3/4 of the team is working primarily on SQ42 to get it out before end of 2020 (expected early 2021 at this point by fans). When SQ42 hits a lot of those developers will move to the PU and we will see a large updates of ships and other features that are being held close to their chest until SQ42 comes out to prevent spoilers.
Having the PU as an open Alpha has helped significantly with SQ42 testing as well, as the player base will test FPS, interactions, ship combat significantly and provide feedback which will improve the SQ42 experience. Having the entire team dedicated to SQ42 would get it out faster but I don't think it would be as good without all the testing the PU has done.
only PVE casual clowns want a single player game before the MMO. Go play a support class or something.

I am from the future year 2069. This game just hit beta. And servers are still crashing every 30 mins. On the bright side, a new ship pack was just released for 3400 dollars.
It’s nice seeing the slowdowns and hangs for once, showing that this is actually early in game footage and not some pre-rendered perfect looking miss representation
On a developer voice over they mention they chose to run it on average hardware so they could show the real state of the game. They arent hiding the quality or trying to make it look good to sell. This is something I wish more developers did and is commendable. I am tired of e3 demos vs real gameplay being completely different

If they're using the best hardware that money can buy then they should turn down the detail for the video and save the ultra graphics setting for screenshots.

It requires clean up and hand animation for the intricacies and CiGs art team have done a great job at doing so, but that's kinda just CiGs art team in general tbh.
I'm worried whether or not they'll be able to keep that high of a bar in terms of animation for the rest of the campaign

People believe in this game and will gladly crowd fund it, I doubt you’ve played the other game Star Citizen, it has a few game loops since actual development of the game didn’t start too long ago. And of course it’s a buggy mess the thing is in alpha 😂, as much as you hear it, they’re still adding lore and there’s so so so so so so so so so so so so so much more to be added into star citizen, if you don’t believe in its that’s fine, just go back to spending your college savings (cause you clearly didn’t use them) on shark cards.
Michael Collins over $300m in funding and they have just announced that they have a roadmap... for a roadmap... of s42. But before we get too excited they’re going to test the roadmap first before they launch the roadmap for the s42 roadmap
If I recall, this is now the most expensive game ever made and the budget keeps increasing. For >$300m don’t even get transparency on what exactly is going on and why such things are being delayed.

But they should really get some advisors in military etiquette and historical practices.
The way a officer woke up with enlisted men, or a pilot waking up with marines for that matter and then being straight into the mess (where he didn’t even eat) and then went to the bridge. Would never happen.
Pilots and specialist crew/ officers and different arms of naval operations are separated for Security and tribal reasons. Theirs competition and differences in training and routines. There’s no reason this couldn’t happen, but it’s seriously unorthodox for the human race to change a system that has always been the same.
Officers are officers. The less contact they have with their crew out of preparation the better. It allows a better aura and image when it comes to leadership. It allows privacy of both parties and no bringing of personal issues into conflict.
The Galley, not mess hall, wouldn’t be connected to the sleeping quarters. For the sake of smells, availability to officers, crew etc.
I could go on for hours. It’s not to promote any form of discrimination, it’s just naval tradition.
I think it's too late to change the whole layout of the ship, their internal goal is to hit beta status mid 2020. The only thing I know they added after the demo are pilot quarters on the other side of the mess hall where the captain and xo have their quarters.
I'm suprised they haven't done this to be honest. I wonder if this is more of a demo, and that they will research further before the game releases (instead of this being a snapshot of the finished game)
@@hansyolo9649 The idris is a standalone ship available to players in the game so It wasn't necessarily designed for squadron 42.
@@A____G It's the other way around. They changed the layout of the Idris multiple times for cinematics and storytelling. That's why it's a frigate now and not a corvette for example. There are old monthly reports on that topic but I don't have the time to look for them right now.
considering that the game takes place 925(i think???) years in the future, i'm pretty sure a lot of military traditions have changed and died off altogether.
Do you all remember the olden days where a games publisher would spends ages creating a game, then releasing the complete game for around forty quid ? Now it seems we have to pay for every hour they waste on a game they have no intention of completing. Why would they want to complete it ? Much more profitable to keep you waiting and paying. Imagine if dentists were so ruthless.

Ive been looking into development, it looks like Squadron 42 will only be released in another 1 or 2 years. This will also massively boost the development speed of Star Citizen because they arent working on 2 projects plus they have the revenue from this game.

@@chrislee8126 Chris Roberts has moved to the UK to finish it of, plus looking at the road map almost every single chapter is complete except for a final few, plus nothing on the roadmap is organised past mid 2022, and looking at the progress tracker there is almost no features that need to be implemented for the campaign past mid 2022. So its most likely the game will come at late 2022. but a delay can always occur, so its more likely to be 2023.

Looks like COD infinity war with even less gameplay, even has the same jaring cut scenes that break the experience. Chris Roberts demonstrates complete radio silence to the people that backed for all of 2020 so far, don't even think he's involve anymore - another mess he's left the money men to fix and profit from.

remember when most games drop a gameplay recording a few months before the game actual comes out? CIG is dropping one with no release date, this video is 2 years old as of this comment. Also this ship that has its entire interior shown off isnt in game yet either.

@@cazmoken8181 so this is the single player part of the game theyre showing off which is separate from the main game called the persistent universe (PU). Right now you can play the PU which honestly has a lot of content and is very fun. there are different things like mining, a prison system, bounty hunting, trading, and mercenary stuff, plus delivery missions, and people are always down to group up and play. There are over 50 ships currently usable I believe in game plus vehicles, and most can be bought in game (the rest are purchasable with irl money) after a not too bad grind (I grind mercenary missions, make 200k an hour, ships are a couple mil usually). That being said its still rather buggy as the game is STILL in alpha, and there are only a few planets and their moons to go hang around on. Couple of space stations as well. This single player campaign has yet to come out though. there is an update soon to drop in the next week or so (titled 3.10, its a long story) its supposedly going to fix a lot of bugs.
@@cazmoken8181 in 2019 someone did the math with the Star Citizen public roadmap, it was just under 20% feature completed in 6 years of dev time. I doubt they've achieved 25% right now in 2020, you can always go to their road map and add up their points to see what percentage.

Star Citizen, or at least Squadron 42, could have been released if the dev team would stop obsessing over every bit of minutiae someone thinks of when the wind blows. Here's a real except from the February 3rd Dev Update, under the section AI Tech -> Animation: "On the AI side, the team implemented final motion capture for a number of sets. Alongside this they progressed with state machine graphs for mess hall sitting and eating, character wildlines, formal rail-leaning, vending machine blocking, wall panel maintenance, the weapon vendor, and guard animation sets to combine them with patrolling." That's right, instead of working on implementing things - oh, I dunno, *ship armor*. . . they have developers making sure it looks right when a character leans on a railing, and that characters won't block vending machines when you're outside of your ship. Immersive, sure. Priority, NO.
i understand where youre coming from, but i dont think the animation team would be able to implement ship armor, but they can implement this.
@@reaxt Oh, I agree that the large dev team clearly has many sub-specialties that often can't easily be reassigned due to different skillsets: animation, A.I., flight modeling, element modeling, level design, sound design, etc. But for the game that Star Citizen is supposed to be (or at least started out as) I'd hope I'd see more animation efforts be spent on things like the animation of the panels, doors, and interior and exterior features of the various ships. I'd grin more seeing things like the door to the microwave in one of the larger ships's kitchen open and close, or how a convincingly a cockpit canopy opens or retract, over say . . . how convincingly a guy leans against a railing. :)
The animations you just referenced are standard in AAA games. Without them, the Idris which is your home base in this game would feel incredibly dead.
