First, valve cover gaskets for V-8's and V-6's are sold in pairs as sets, so it isn't a question of the mechanic buying two of them. Second, common sense should tell anyone that if the gasket on one side goes bad on a used car, both sides should be replaced, since the other side may not be far behind. This is due to the fact that materials break down at the same rate, so both valve cover gaskets were most likely ready to fail within months, or even weeks of each other. Again, it's common sense to change both sides since you're already under the hood, and have everything out of the way. Also, the replacement of valve cover gaskets is a very straight forward job, with the hardest part being the removal of parts in order to get at the covers - and depending on the year, make, and model - only if needed, since in most older vehicles the valve covers are very easy to get to. After that, replacing the gaskets is a very simple procedure for any experienced auto technician.

I’ve saved a ton of $ by buying cars with 50K miles and driving them another 200K. But I get what (I think) you are saying about this plaintiff-they bought an older Mercedes because they wanted the status and didn’t think about whether it was a good investment or not. A Mercedes is never a good investment.
Sometimes I think the judge needs to shut up and listen especially when she herself dosnt completely understand things. Too doo both valve cover gaskets it probably takes longer to do two then it dose one so the price would very in labour. A gasket is only like 50 bucks the labour is the thing here. And both sides of a V engine are not the same some engines sit sideways so the bank valve cover is usually a pain too do.
