Want to know what to do when a USB Device Is Not Recognized in Windows 10? USB connection errors, such as Error Code 43 message is very common. This error is caused by faulty hardware, out of date software, driver issue and conflicts. There are a couple of common types of yellow exclamation mark errors, one is the device has no driver and windows don’t recognize the device without it, the device might be named which is a good sign and easier to fix then the later USB problem, where the device is unknown to windows.
So, let’s start troubleshooting this USB problem:
1. Remove all USB devices from the computer apart from Keyboard and Mouse.
2. Try changing port and changing USB cable
3. Try updating windows
4. Try running Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter tool
5. Try updating drivers for all USB Hubs and USB Root
6. Try uninstalling drivers for all USB Hubs and USB Root and restart computer
7. Try Roll Back Drivers option if available, windows may of updated your driver and now it don’t work.
8. Download drivers from the hardware manufacturer website
9. Try flashing motherboard BIOS
10. Download latest USB chipset drivers and USB drivers from motherboard manufacturer website
11. Check for USB 3 and USB 2 compatibility, also check to make sure you are using the right USB cable if it’s a old device.
12. Check Hardware id code and search to find the correct driver
13. Check to see if hardware is even compatible with Windows 10
These are just some basic steps you can try and resolve How to Fix a USB Device Problem in Windows 10

And now you are making several backups right ?! One online ; one kept outside of the house with a trusted person and one ready to grab if you have to leave in a hurry. And yes ,do it on a SSD (Solid State Drive ) ;safer, studier and more room. Maybe keep one in the bank in a safety deposit box as well. Thank you! I've been looking for a fix, watched many RUclips to no avail. I tried your msdt.exe solution and it worked! Now my wireless mouse and my USB microphone are recognized by Win 10. I think the devices are not defective, but the USB port driver was. Thanks again. from Philippines.
I also tried it by msdt. However, my computer finds errors but does not correct them. Restart it and everything but, however it does not download / install anything.

My system is an ASUS ROG Strixx Scar II gaming laptop. This all started about 3 months ago when I ran windows update and it installed 21h1 update or some shit. I am a bit computer savvy, certainly not an expert by any means. Since that update (and restarting PC) I am constantly being bombarded with "USB device not recognized". It pops up every second and makes the annoying sound when you connect or disconnect a USB device. I tried uninstall/reinstalling drivers, included the latest drivers from ASUS's website. I even tried a complete format, erased everything and re-installed Windows 10 with the version that was preinstalled with my computer. I disconnected my wifi so it couldn't install any updates, but still to no avail. When it finally finished installing I was shocked when this message continued to pop up. By the way, I tested all my USB devices they all work fine. I should not that a day before this happens I did spill a little bit of water on the right numpad, but I immediately dried of off and the computer was running fine for the whole day and the next day as well, until I did that damn update. Maybe it's just a coincidence. I don't know. All I know if that everything was running fine until it installed that update and when I restarted that's when this started to happen. But I was shocked when I formatted and the problem still occurred. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. I even downloaded a program called Restoro hoping it would detect and fix issues like this, but nothing... This is sooooo frustrating.

how about a (port reset failed) problem? My portable hard drive fell off the computer, and I have a bad feeling I won't be able to get all my files back. I'm trying to get drivers for the device and hope that it helps.
It appears in 2019 Microsoft have concentrated more on spyware rather than software that can fix this driver problem automatically, unbelievable.

You also see something like that when the device is to far away the computer and the voltage drop across the wire is to much, so you either self power with a 5 /12 volt power supply or use a USB hub Posted on Facebook Bye for now Cheers

One thing I did was,
Go into Disk Management
I found out that my USB had unallocated space on it.
So I right clicked on where it said "Unallocated" and clicked on New Simple Task and just clicked NEXT all the way to the end. And after that I formated the USB device by right clicking on it and clicking on format.
And was recognized again. Hope this helps you guys. (Keep in mind that this will wipe clean your USB device)

I had this issue last Sunday, the only thing that fixed it was changing the drive letter of my USB Flash Drive --> Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer Management\Storage\Disk Management.
Is it safe to do?

My problem was solved by downloading Huawei's Hisuite software. After I unplugged the faulty computer mouse and plugged it back in, it worked normally again. So do I need to uninstall the Hisuite software or leave it as is?. And if I remove the software from my computer, will my mouse still work? Because my problem here is probably that I am using a cheap mouse made in China, I think my laptop has much newer hardware than this mouse.

Same here. Tried everything. My laptop is now next to useless as I can't connect any devices to it. Mouse, headset, arduino....nothing, I'm so angry right now. It was all fine, then I had to do a restart for updates, then it instantly threw up the USB error :( It now sits there with nothing plugged in, going through endless cycles of telling me "a device was plugged it" (it wasnt) then followed byt the "device is not recognised" window...over and over again. Thanks microsoft.

Hey @Britec09, at 3:30-3:35 when you mention performing a search based on the USB's "ID code", I wish you had showed us how to perform said search; as I tried to do the search, but could find nothing.

Run CMD Terminal and type below commands.
list disk
list volume
select volume 1 or 2 or 3 whichever you need to assign a letter. Make sure that you didnt select C where your OS running. C: drive is your main hard drive.
assign letter = H or any letter other than C
Boom !!!
Your external or internal hardrive files will be open automaticaly.

MY DEVICE NAME IS REDMI MI 6X.
MY DEVICE Reads USB FLASH very well THROUGH OTG and I can manage the files through files through my device file manager apk.
*MY DEVICE Can't CONNECT TO PC THROUGH USB and does not gives me options to either choose 'file transfer', charge only or photos.
When the USB cable connected to my device is plug to the computer, the COMPUTER PRODUCES THE USB PLUG IN SOUND AND displays a notification on the monitor saying 'usb device not recognise.
I keep the USB device connected and I tried verifying installed drivers in the drivers manager and saw "unknown device.
I have reset the phone still didn't
I tried the USB debugging not working
I tried the wondows folder inf installation and still did not.
I tried using windows 7 and windows 10 on a laptop and still didn't work
All drivers installed and still did not.
Tried different computers and different USB cables and still did not.
Shows the same error even when boot phone to fastboot.
Please someone should help me.

Had that problem intermittently with a USB hard drive. It turned out that not all USB ports are equal. The drive didn't get enough power.
Yeah that is very common, some USB that run on USB power can cause that issue
HOW TO STOP windows 10 update for particular update
I have HP Z420 win 10 pro with 2x2 USB 3.0. The correct drivers should be the “Texas Instruments USB Root Hub” and “Texas Instruments XHCI Controller” and it only available from Win 7 pro drivers update, without these 2 drivers that my 2x2 USB 3.0 will not working. Windows auto update could only update to “Texas Instruments USB 3.0 x HCI Host Controller” which is wrong driver and will not work and recognized in win 10. How to stop windows 10 pro auto update for "this particular update and install" it ? Many thanks for your help.

I have "HanWang Drawing Tablet" as window 10 recognized under Device Manager.
When I click on General it say - This device is working properly.
My computer is 64 bits
Driver File Details say C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVER\HWDrawing.sys
It seems window 10 recognized this devise without any problem. But pen does not move around the screen as mouse does or as what it suppose to do.
I already search, there is no new driver for this devise. What else can be done to make window 10 work with this drawing tablet?

I have a Kindle 3rd generation I tried all this on windows 10 on another computer I have uninstalled I have tried to restart the computer. I just get unknow device. Lol I've been using this same cord to play games with my ps4 controller for well over a month and all of a sudden windows doesnt wanna recognize the device. Didnt do any updates or any bullshit to change anything that I know of but oh well, thats technology for you. Fuck me for just trying to plug and play I guess. The video sadly didnt resolve my problems but I'll give it a like for the effort. As for what I am going to do next: I am going to get a new cable real quick and hope that the same thing doesnt happen again.

Guys these things doesn't work.There are 4 pins in the USB and one or two of them is damaged so only power transfer takes place and no data transfer.However if it's a USB 3.0 port then there are additional 5pins in the front.And you can still probably run your hard drives(with USB 3.0) but not other 2.0 devices.dont try.these are fake
If there is a lesson to be learned here is that Hardware and Software are not reliable as we used to think they are, at all. Anything can change at any time for any reason, it could even be a missing letter in a code.

Hi all as per my experience issue was with my mobile. Laptop USB drivers get updated automatically after giving restart to laptop. Actually issue was in mobile setting - additional setting - developer options ( USB Debugging should was off i switch to on) problem solved
