I mean you're being a hater, full stop lol. Both can be true, Lewandowski deserving 2020 and Messi deserving 2021. If you had not acted like a hater and stayed to hear Messi speak you would've heard him call out FF for not giving Lewandowski the Ballon D'Or last year. Saying it's rigged is taking all merit away from Messi and that's not fair either. Messi and Lewandowski both were toe to toe in 2021, either one winning was fair and would've been deserving. Not necessary to take away credit from Messi to prop Lewan up.
I mean I’m happy Messi won, just doesn’t seem right. Ngl the whole voting process hasn’t been the same since Modric in 2018 so maybe that’s where my real issue is

Problem is that if that's the criteria used Messi would literally have 9 Ballon D'Ors because he's been the top contributor of goals in 9 different seasons lol.

You can't give the 2021 award to make up for 2020 . Doesn't make sense. If anything they should have given Lewa 1 as well . Messi also said so in his speech.
I dislike how everyone make an argument why Messi SHOULDN'T have won it and that's just ridiculous and unconstructive. Instead why not argue why Lewa should have won both (for 2020 and 2021) . That could spark some positive discussion.

okay think about it this way. Lewandowski for a MUCH WORSE Poland team (8 goals 2 assists in 10 games & 48 & 9 for Bayern). Messi (5 goals 2 assists & 38/12 for Barca). LEWA even had a better international scoring szn and only 3 less assists than Messi
actually he had 4 goals 5 assists in copa, but still. I’m not saying Messi shouldn’t have won, I just feel like it came down to popularity and Messi’s notoriety over Lewa’s play

I think if we look at the ballon d’or team metrics tho Lewa was the best player on a MUCH better team. they used that same idea to reward Messi in 2019 and Modric in 2018, gotta stay consistent

The only statistic Lewandowski leads over Messi is goals, nothing else. Messi was the best player in 3 tournaments (La Liga, Copa del Rey, Copa America) and won two of them. Lewandowski was the best player of two tournaments (Bundesliga, Club WC).

2020 Lewandowski was the clear winner, no question but this year it's Messi.
It was the first time since 2010 that Ronaldo wasn't a top 3 contender and everybody knew it. So his whole fanbase hyped Lewandowski for month and thats the reason everybody is crying now. Most have no idea what performances Messi delivered over the year.
Lewandowski also plays as a CF, while Messi is a playmaker.
It's sad lewa didn't win the 2020 award but messi is the deserved 2021 winner.

Well, it's not Messi's fault that the 2020 award (which, for the record, would've been absolutely Lewandowski's) got canceled, and if anything, this is just a reminder of how insane a player Messi is, that even when he's not at his best, there's still no outright better player.
Not being the best by a large margin is still being the best, unless you compare the current Messi with his peak form, that's unfair on a different level. Honestly, is Messi so good that people have some sort of double standards regarding him? Imagine any other player with his 2021 stats, and the press would beg to no end to give that player a Ballon D'or (and I found it rather funny how Bayern and the entire Bundesliga tried).
