As a Brazilian fan for life, i must say that Brazil has produced some of the greatest footballers ever to have kicked a ball but... Messi - is undoubtedly the greatest to have graced a football pitch. Millions like me would consider ourselves blessed to be just near the man. it’s funny how the comments section just talks about talent. Yes. Without a doubt he is talented. However, you have to look at the amount of work and discipline necessary to reach and maintain such level. Even more so if you look at his lack of base qualities like height and strength. No one talks about his unmovable discipline or his work ethic. The fact that fame and money never got to his head. We never saw him dead drunk in clubs, with hookers and all the rest of it. I think first and foremost we should be in awe of his discipline which is on par with Cristiano. Just saying talent, like something was given to him without merit is an insult.

I have been advising my fellow Messi supporters to refrain from saying Messi as talented because it’s a demerit to his insurmountable efforts and hard work. They don’t understand we don’t see him working hard because he is introverted and don’t record every process to upload and share like other players do. I agree with you that he may be/have been disciplined. HOWEVER, there are millions of football players who also have dedicated their lives to the sport and to training and never come close to what he is/was. Messi has something that no one has.

-More goals if penalties are removed even with less games

-More passes (completed + accuracy)
-More assists
-More trophies

When I was a kid in 2011, another kid asked me who's the best player in football at the time. I didn't follow football during that time, so I blurted out Messi. He told me that I didn't know football and that the better player was Cristiano Ronaldo. But after 13 years of following the sport, I can safely say that Messi is the greatest of all time. He's pretty much mastered football to the point that he is football. The only players that achieved similar feats were El Fenomeno, Zinedine Zidane, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona and Pele

He delivered PlayStation moments so frequently between 18 and 32 that we almost became immune to them. Then he drags Argentina to the World Cup while clearly being past his peak but also clearly still a phenomenal player. And he scored 600+ league goals and set up another 300 or whatever. He wasn't even a striker ffs. He was the type of player you can only get in Football Manager if you cheat and max out every attribute. I'm old enough to remember Maradona and he was next level during his time. Platini was also extraordinary (and seems to have been forgotten) and better than Zidane.
I have seen that as a musician. Without that talent, work will take you only so far. It might be a long way, but never as far or high as the truly talented.
