- The very sweet Evenlyn here on RUclips was kind enough to send me a set of 36 Lyra Rembrandt Polycolors. I have always wanted to try these pencils, so I thought I would share my first impressions and swatch them on camera with you guys so you can see what I think. This is not a review, instead, I will review down the road after I use them.

Finally a brand that makes left handed pencils! We, lefties, are used to reading backwards up side down. lol
Left Handed Pencils, who knew.
The left handed pencils are great , the grove help the children how to hold the pencil correctly, also the mechanical lead pencils are worth paying for. These helped my left handed grandson a lot, really boosted his confidence.
LOL, never thought of it that way, since I'm a righty, but good point :).
Love that you own the heavy handedness- I am with you in that club lol 😂 layers requires effort 😂😂😂
I mean psh, why layer if you don't have to? Less is more!
Wow perfect timing! I was just looking into these. Thank you!
Oh how funny!
I really enjoy my Lyra set, I've got the jumbos in the metallic. Skin tones and std 18 set and those are softer. These rembrant ones are great for that colouring sound. Sometimes I really enjoy hearing and feeling it but they still do a good job. It's a different feeling and lay down and it's fun.
Yes, they feel drier than what I'm used to, but I really like the colors so far and can't wait to pay with them more.
Nice to see these being swatched, they were my very first "real" set bought 4.5 years ago. Watched Julie? colour and chat once, she said proper pronunciation is LOO-RA...Lovely pencils, I bought the rest of the 78 individually. There is a set of 12 greys you can buy, then you'd have doubles of black and white, and the greys in the 36...hope you enjoy them! (Poly means many eg polygamous) I had Pink Madder Lake in my 36, they changed it to the Dark Orange.
Hmmm I would have never guessed you say it that way, since any time I've heard someone say it they say "Lee-rah" but it works! That's good to know about a 12-count gray set. I'm unfamiliar with these, so this was just a swatch and first impressions. I most likely will collect the others before I review them just so I can give them a fair review.
I have this same set and love them. They feel similar to my Luminance in that they have a drier feel, not creamy like prismas or as hard and oily as polychromos.
Yes, definitely drier - that's the feel I got while swatching.
Would love to see you do a colour along with these, Kori as I have them too and would love to follow along ♥️♥️ ty for sharing hun xxx
Oh that's good to know! I'll definitely work on that.
@@ColorfullyOptimistic yh I have the 72 set and really enjoy them ♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for doing this! I've been curious about them!
Of course! I still need to review them
I absolutely love the lyra pencils. I was told from another youtube channel that they are oil based. They are a thinner barrel. They took some getting used to. But I love them in my Japanese coloring books. I didnt find mine scratchy. I recently got the full set it does have more color variety and comes with 2 splenders.
Mine might seem scratchy from my super smooth cardstock (it makes any pencil more scratchy). Yes, they are oil-based. Took some digging, but found the info lol.
Wow, Its so great! I love really your ideas! They are interesting and easy, iI will try to repeat it!)))
Thank you! 😊
I love all the happy mail that the you tube coloring community sends each other! It's like Christmas! Only I don't need to find a place to put all the stuff! LOL
Haha, I definitely need my studio done so I can get some space :)
I love these pencils. They are richly pigmented and soft. Not hard at all to me. I have a set of 24 that I got second hand and I really want the 72 set now. But they aren’t easy to get at a reasonable price in the U.K. they are a great price on Ali Express but I’ve never used it. Open stock is available from the coloured pencil shop (web site) in the U.K.
Sue, they almost feel like pastel pencils, don't they?
Yes, you can get these open stock from Blick and Jerry's here in the U.S.
@@leonnehaaijman4709 I don’t find them chalky. To me they feel smooth and creamy. They layer well to make other shades.
I don't have these pencils.. but adding to that Wish List Now!!😉
So when it comes to swatch charts what works best for me.. I purchased 5.5"×8.5" Heavy weight sheet protectors. I then swatch on my desired paper then fold or cut to fit into the sheet protectors. If I end up with 2 or more sheet protector pages, I paper clip them together threw the holes (brads would work also) of the sheet protectors. Then the swatch charts are a perfect size on the right paper, & easy to store in my pencil case with the pencils or other medias! I have found this way I seldom return to a swatch "book" at all, even though I have swathes in both places! Thanks for your Great Videos Kori!💖
That sounds like a great swatching method! I'll be revamping mine now that my stamps came. Can't wait!
Lyra are great pencils. My full set has the old names. The light fastness is great on these. I’ve several framed pieces of personal art made with these that have zero fading all these years later (none of the pictures are hung in direct sunlight). They work well with PC and FC.
Oh that is all good to know!
I would love to see a video that gives your opinion on what pencils work best in different Illustrators/artists books. Like what set of pencils work best in Maria trolle books etc. Thank you for letting me know that prisma doesn't work well in Hannas books. Good to know!!! I guess you could say i am too lazy to figure it out on my own 😂
I could definitely do that!
These are on my list for sure love the Koh-i-Noor but just got the 100 set of light fast Derwent so time to save for these.
Oooh I want to try the koh I noor
I've had a small set of the Lyras for several years. Though they're hard, I do like them. I will have to order a Splender Blender for myself. You can't have all the fun!
LOL I really like that blender pencil! Who would have thought!
Love your videos! They are always upbeat and entertaining as well as informative. 👍
You also seem like a very sweet person 😊
Awe thank you. That's so sweet of you
can't wait to get mine. beautiful colors.
How you get to play with them soon!
I'm excited to watch this one! Thank you
Awe no problem!
I agree with you, I like to swatch on the correct paper. I find swatching relaxing too.
Yes, you should always swatch with the paper type you plan to use - otherwise you can't get an accurate feel for the pencil for future projects (for me at least)
Hi Kori! My sister gave me some of these pencils she found at an estate sale. I like a little harder pencil for small spaces. On my wish list. I will go with the 36 count, more affordable. ...How generous of Evelyn!🙋🏵️
Ah I could see how in small spaces these would be hard for sure.
8:25 My box has yet a different name for the 09: orange yellow deep! On the pencil it's orange yellow, like yours. Who knows why lol
For the 67 i have it just like you, lawn green on the box and sap green on the barrel
I'm italian and "poli" is a prefix to indicate many, like "polifunzionale", "polimero" etc. It cames from ancient Greek and I'm 99% positive it's the same for the english "poly"
The splender blender is really amazing, i wished you would smooth out all the swatches cause it was so satisfying to watch lol
I just like saying "splender blender" - brilliant marketing lol. I am definitely going to try it with other pencil brands too.
The best way to swatch white is to go over that area with a black marker. It doesn’t change the texture of the paper so u can still swatch ur pencil over the marker…I use my copic black but a sharpie works as well
Yes, I know :). I do that sometimes, other times I just rather go over my lines, but if I'm truly worried about testing opacity I will do that.
I have the 72 set and there are flesh colors, more purples, greens, browns and a few more greys
Oh that's good to know. I plan to buy the rest open stock. I think these will be fun to use!
I tend to agonise over buying more budget sets, but show me an artist-grade pencil and I'm like, yep, need those. I'd definitely want those in the 72 set, though, but maybe I'll wait for your review before I pull the trigger :D
I hear you. I have been avoiding budget sets and if I buy some, I'm very selective on which I do buy.
Yes, they are oil. I'm sure you already know that. 🙃 They are lovely 💞. I have this 36 set. Thank you for sharing ✳️
I had figured they were oil - they felt like it, but the packaging didn't say.
My very first set! Bought EONS ago...
They aren't bad pencils at all :)
It’s funny you mention color name changes. I have the OG Ruby Charms swatch book, and a recent purchase of the Derwent lightfast and procolor pencils. The flesh tones were re-named at some point. It used to be Flesh Pink and now it’s Pale Peach. FC did the same with their “flesh tone” names as well. Dark, medium and light Flesh are now Salmon, Coral and Beige Red.
words 'flesh' and 'skin' meaning beige were canceled a while ago
@@windy8544 I'm relatively new to these pencils so wasn't aware of the change until I went to swatch them.
@@QueenofFlannelColors oh i am talking about politics not pencils
@@QueenofFlannelColors 👍
@@windy8544 why?
Awesome... Big like😊👍☺
Thank you!
Interesting pencil! They look cool, except for the lack of pinks and purples. LOL, Splender Blender sounds like a smoothie machine. 🤣 I will be interested to see if the blender works with other pencil brands. Take care! 💜🤗
That blender is just fun to say hahahaha. I will try it out with other brands too for sure!
I have about 5 sets of the Lyra Graduate which is the student grade....I presume....really like them BUT....Do you think it's worth the money to buy the artist grade? I am on a no-buy for a few years now until I can use some of my supplies that I currently own. I am sure I will need a new Prisma set before anything because they are getting shorter each use.🤣 TIA and thank you for doing this video! Evelyn is such a blessing!
Hey my dear. Yes! I too have the graduate, but oh gosh I love the Rembrandt. Oh gosh I go through Prisma like water so I get you.💜
Poly means ‘ many’ like polytheism, and polymer…. they do sound chalky while you’re swatching, very scratchy. Thank you for this review.
Yeah, they definitely have a drier texture, but the scratchy you need to realize I swatch on a very very smooth cardstock - so that brings out the scratchy in even the smoothest of pencils :)
Also i will swatch and i have a couple swatch books i have used but i rarely refer back to them. 😂 I just scribble on a piece of scrap card stock when choosing my colors.
I used to scribble, but I have relied a lot more on my swatch books as of late.
I think the Jet was a fanfare for the Splender. Serandipity.
I too LOVE the Splender, and my Lyras.
I love the Splender, but I'm still not sure about these Polycolors. Need to use em more.
❤️❤️
I have the 72 count. I’d say there is about 6 pinks and 7 purple. Not big selection
That's actually a good amount for a 72 set, especially when you think about how they have to divvy up the colors in that count.
I've heard these are really similar to the Blick pencils. I'd love to know your thoughts on differences if you've tried the Blicks too
Sadly, I haven't tried the Blick ones - so couldn't compare :(
Hello what a nice happy mail. You can buy them open stock at Dick Blick on line. I just love mine. Happy coloring.
Yes, they are on Blick and Jerry's
You should try ruby charms swatch book it's already written out for you plus extra spaces for other pencils
I have it. Did a video and giveaway on my channel 😁. Unfortunately I don't like the order they come in
Dryer, like Koh I Noor Polycolor pencils? I have the Koh I Noor 144, and love them. I've been looking at Lyra's too.
Sadly, I don't have Koh I Nor, but they're next to try, so I can compare them then.
No pinks and no purples. Such a shame. ☹️. Great review though. X
Just a swatching - the review comes later :). Yes, this is only 36 pencils though. The 72 set has more pinks and purples.
Thank you for all you do for the Coloring community. I love swatching along with you because you are friendly and sound approachable.
Awe thank you. You are too sweet.
I also think the Derwent Procolor feel....Chalky...LOL ! I laminate all my swatch sheets.
Yeah these just had a weird feeling to them.
These and the Koh-i-Noors are my favourite coloured pencils. Definitely prefer both of them over any other, more expensive, brand.
Oooh that's good to know.
Went to look for, but cannot find your review of these.....
Still in the works. I have fallen behind :(
@@ColorfullyOptimistic nw!!
It was probably already said but with the 09 pencil you think the name is wrong. You show the pencil and in German it says chromgelb dunkel which should translate to dark chrome yellow. (Just check a Faber Castell 109)
Interesting, thank you
Jennifer Stays Coloring Bliss Swatch Chart
What about it? I love her charts but I need everything on one page. I've thought of ordering her book though
ProColor's I could not use. I benched them, too hard.
They're AMAZING for hair though. Like life changing
@@ColorfullyOptimistic May have to dig them out again.
36 pencils, plus one blender.
Yes. If you watch a bit further I corrected that
They are oil pencils :)
Yes, I did some research after. I was quite confused since it wasn't on the box, but swore they were oil.
No purple either
The 72 set has purples, the smaller set had to make sacrifices. I mean it is 36 colors. They have to be selective.
I think they could have not used one of those Reds and thrown a purple in there and a pink
I don't find them hard to use
That's totally okay! We are all so different. There are pencils that are really hard for me to use that people just love. Just goes to show how there is a pencil for every style out there.
