    I love my Lyras. I discovered them years ago and have a big fan ever since. My favourite pencils are the Faber Castell Polychromos but the Lyras come a close second. NOT sure why they are so underappreciated . They blend REALLY well and layer REALLY well too. I guess I should say that I am one who NEVER liked the Prismacolours so the lyra are a wonderful pencil for those times when I want a softer lead. thanks for the very through review! (hello from Canada! 🙂)

    Interesting to see the different branding styles in the same set. I admit it would put me off of buying the set until the switch is finished.

    Would be interesting to see a wrap up video (in the end when all pencils have been tested). You could put the results of the tests next to each other so we can see the results for the different brands in direct comparison. You could then also decide if you want to keep your current ranking or if you want to adjust it…

    • @StuffBySunshine
      @StuffBySunshine  8 месяцев назад +1

      A little secret is I did all the first 10 pencil tests at once so I could do exactly that. Basically rank them side by side. To get an idea.
      I have changed them slightly as I edit the videos but so far I’m still pretty happy with the ranking (ish).
      But yes! If i ever do Allllll the pencils I’ll do that 😂. Likely the first combined video will be on the white pencil

    I wonder how they compare to the prismacolor ? Or any brand suggestion ? Because they are hard to find in France :(

    • @StuffBySunshine
      @StuffBySunshine  4 месяца назад +2

      Well the Lyra Rembrandt are an oil based pencil so they are closer to the Polychromos rather than the prismacolor (prismacolor is wax based). The prismacolor tends to be a little easier to blend because of that wax but like the Polychromos the Lyra is a bit easier for detail☺️.
      If you can get yourself a set they are a great pencil!

    The red and green dropped off in the gradient test, made me think they would blend together well.
    not surprised at the low breaking point average, they are focusing on the quality of the pigment, and it seems they are focusing on a true color other than expectations. not surprised that the blue on the pencil was darker than what it produced.
    I would probably get a set of them along side the Farber Castell.
    I am interested in Cecil's suggestion for a taste test

    • @StuffBySunshine
      @StuffBySunshine  8 месяцев назад

      Yes I agree, a low score in the breaking the leads isn’t going to effect most people too much. They are super saturated pencils and super buttery so I was kinda expecting them to be soft in the end. I always thought oil based pencils were harder but I’m starting to question whether they actually are or as all the oil based pencils I’ve tested have been so soft! 😅
      Cecil reckons they were 10:10 taste wise as the wood was nice and soft to sink his beak in 😂

    Excellent testing and review presentation. The only thing I found at fault was the misspelling of Holbein (not Holbien), pronounced "hole-bine". I don't mean to be nit-picky, but thought you should know. Thanks for the great video!

    • @StuffBySunshine
      @StuffBySunshine  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@StuffBySunshine I'm glad you didn't find my comment picky or obnoxious. Just wanted to help you out so you can make even better vids in future. Your approach to this review is very well thought out and presented. Reason I was watching it in the first place is curiousity about your opinion on these pencils, as I have the 72 set.

  • @YkronRobe
    @YkronRobe 8 месяцев назад +2

    I like how your tests are a bit different from what you find in other channels.
    However please correct the logo and pronunciation for the Holbein pencils 😂
    It is E followed by I and not the other way around, and it is pronounced as the German diphthong ei = /ay/

      Glad you’re liking it! Oh dang! I didn’t even notice that In the graphs! Good eyes! I’ll make sure the next one is the right way round ☺️.

      @@StuffBySunshine I see it happen sometimes with native English speakers 😅
      If it is of any help the name of brand, even thought it is a Japanese art supplies brand, comes from the name of a German-Swiss painter. I’m not sure if Hans Holbein the Younger or his father Hans Holbein the Elder.

    • @StuffBySunshine
      @StuffBySunshine  8 месяцев назад

      It’s so interesting a Japanese company named there brand after a German (Swiss),name. I guess they thought it would make it sound much more professional or something?
      Anyway you’ve got me double checking names for the next video now😂

    • @gertietheduck
      @gertietheduck 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@StuffBySunshine they wouldn't be the first company/brand to do that: Paul Rubens (Chinese) Da Vinci (German), Raphael (French), Turner (Japanese), Matisse (Australian), and so on and so forth...
      Then there are also companies who do the opposite and name themselves or their lines/brands after local artists :)

  • @toneseeland
    @toneseeland 2 месяца назад +2

    They are too transparent, not richly pigmented. They do not work on dark backgrounds. My experiance is Derwent Artist is all you need. I have some of them from my now dead artist mothers tin, she bought them in London 40 years ago, they are still bright and smooth. 40 year old Derwent Artist look and perform just like the new ones. Think about that.

    • @StuffBySunshine
      @StuffBySunshine  2 месяца назад

      Ahh that’s because the Derwent artists are wax not oil. For oil pencils you build up layers for wax the pigment sort of smooshes on the page. With the Lyra or any oil pencil the more layers you do the more vibrant they become.
      Im doing some more reviews on Derwent pencils right now (hopefully the lightfast will be out on Monday) which you may be interested in ☺️
