    I really enjoy my Lyra Rembrandts but they do have some color palette issues unfortunately. They either need more colors or someone to curate them so they have fewer similar shades for a 72. Way less red, more brown. There are more open stock greys than come in the 72 set.. if I remember correctly there are a total of 76 or 78 available. That being said, they are very mixable so they have a lot of range possible by combining colors. I've heard complaints that they are hard, but they aren't uncomfortable to color with, they glide onto the paper... you just can't bully them into a single thick layer so pushing hard doesn't do much.. you just have to stack up your layers. They are the most buildable pencil I own.. you just keep adding more and more and they never seem to stop being able to go a little further, and are capable of very rich saturated color it just takes a minute to get there. The thin layer and buildable formula makes them capable of beautiful transitions and blends. They also work really well on smooth paper other pencils don't like to grab onto. The build quality is outstanding, and I adore the way they smell, like a cedar chest.

    Oh Karen i didn’t know about the passing of your beautiful cat, I’m so sorry to hear 😢 and it was nice to know where your channel name comes from. Good luck with the adoption of some new fur babies. We have a 2 and a half year old kitty named Chloe and she brings so much joy to us all in our home. 😻

    Hi Karen, these were my first set of pencils, a 36 set. I liked them alot and purchased the 72 set. I've read somewhere that the Lyra is also manufactured by the same company as the Faber Castell. Ive never sharpened my pencils before using them and never found any difference in my colouring. The 72 set comes with two splenders, not sure why the wood in your splenders are different colours but it's the same thing. I had read on a site that once you use the splender you won't be able to place down anymore colour because it flattens the tooth and makes the artwork shiny to look like something out of a magazine.

    Hi Karen. I have had these in and out of my basket so many times they are dizzy. I was hoping someone I trust would do a swatch and review of them before I invested money in them. Thank you so much. I hope you feel much better soon.

    I really like the Lyra. But they are very lacking in actual browns. I have traditionally not mixed pencil sets, but you really need to import some browns to make best use of these.
    They layer very well. The 2 Splender Blenders are identical. Just the wood colour that's different.

      I agree, I got my set about a month ago and while I like them, I have a very difficult time using them on their own, which bothers me since I too do not mix my sets. I've begun to use them with my Caran D'Ache Pablo pencils as well as Derwent Drawing and Faber-Castell Polychromos. They play well with those three for the most part from what I've seen while using them. I have yet to try them with any other brand, but as I said, those seem to work well together with them. I'll have to try Prismacolor and Kalour next since I plan on buying a set of Kalours here soon to sort of round out my collection and also provide me with some colors I wouldn't mind sharing with others that aren't as nice on pencils as I'd like them to be in order to use my fancier and more expensive pencils.

    • @suewilkinson910
      @suewilkinson910 Год назад

      @@ReverieOfThorns If you buy Kalour, get the biggest set (300 I think). Avoid the 240 set because the 240 set is also woefully lacking in browns! I like the pencils, but the lack of browns mean I have to mix them with something else too.

    I mix my polys with the Brut macarons. Gives me all those colors I wish I had in the Polys and the two formulas play very well with each other. I was piecing them together as needed but finally sat down and officially moved them in with each other permanently. It took two days to sort them all out but I reach for my Polys and enjoy them so much more now it was worth it. I may consider replacing the macarons with open stock Holbiens at some point as individual pencils wear out, but I will have to buy a couple and actually test the formulas before I commit to that. In the meantime the macarons have a very slow wear down so it will be a while before it become an issue. There is also a Prisma white in that case, but there is a Prisma white in most of my pencil sets. I plan to pick up a couple of Holbien soft whites the next time I place an order to test as a replacement or addition.

    Karen, so sorry to hear about losing your kitty, so hard I lost mine a year ago in September, I still miss her, but I have a new baby 6 months old, makes it a bit easier. But harder to color, she likes to sit on my desk.

    I have had them for about 3 years but somehow forgotten them . I guess that I did not find them so interesting. Thank you for reminding. Better to use color chart with those pencils . Better for drawing than for coloring.. But for adult coloring I found that" Lyra Graduate color pencils " are nice.

    I like some of the shades, but Im not that fond of this set. I hate that they dont even come close to matching the leads and tops and their quality is really inconsistent. And yet... some of the pencils are some of my favorites

    I don’t have these so found this interesting…Are they like the Koh-I-Noor 144 set? Or the Derwent Artist set?🥰Purple?…no…no way😂

    • @amandablythe6515
      @amandablythe6515 Год назад +1

      I like the Koh-I-Noor polycolors WAAAY better. They don't feel the same to me at all. They are almost identical (except the color range) to the Caran d'Ache Pablo's. I thought I would never say anything was like the Pablo's because they are more unique. But they are.

    • @waymire01
      @waymire01 Год назад

      They are not like either of them, they are a firm oil based layering pencil. Harder than Kohinoor polycolor, softer than Derwent Artist. Capable of very rich saturation but takes a minute to get there. Harry (his channel/website is the Art Gear Guide) has a direct side by side comparison of the Kohinoor and the Lyra if you wish to see.
