Best part of this episode was Dan praising George Lucas as Adam barely contains his hatred for all things Star Wars and Alex being awkward in the middle of it all.
@@jogymogy3691 nah. There was one time when Ralph edited an episode without telling everyone else, but really the issue was more the audience ragging on Ralph all the time. He just wasn't into it anymore and the audience didn't help. He'll be back as a guest for sure at some point again.
@@Tyler12905 same, I also missed Fury road, but I'm glad I got my shit together enough to take my ass to the theater and experience this one in Imax. Maybe it's not as action-packed and adrenaline-pumping, but it was still an incredible experience.
42:00 hard disagree with Adum. Sure Fury Road was a sold as a non-stop action movie, but I was never under the impression that the movie never wanted you to take it seriously. The storm bit in particular was great because of great visuals, the booming soundtrack, and Max frantically trying to stop Nux from killing them both. Some of the more "serious" moments totally worked for me; like Furiosa's scream/despair after meeting the Elders or the moment in the climax when she's stabbed and everything is going wrong.
I agree. Fury Road has a clear sense of gravitas when it mattered. It has a sense of biblical importance and reverence to it. So many shots look like John Martin paintings, particularly things like, as you mentioned, the storm, or Furiosa's moment of despair. It reminds me of the most recent two Doom games. It's a dumb, big, silly premise, but it takes itself so seriously that you can buy it.
That particular take from him, after hearing it here and in his main channel video, is still incomprehensible to me. I think he just misread the intended tone of the film. And he seems to be suggesting that "wacky, zany" music would be more appropriate for the movie than "emotionally epic"
@@unimpressedalchemist I honestly think Adam has this mentality where action films fundamentally can't be taken seriously, therefore they should never aim for moments of seriousness because they are fun to watch. The way he talks about it makes it seem like he thinks action movies are beneath him.
I love the ending music of Ed Wood, the way we see the optimism for Ed Wood only to see the music having this final say about the end of his life. It’s like a quintessential film noir. Ed Wood is easily my favourite Tim Burton film.
DAN bringing up my boi Cboyardee and the LEGENDARY Dilbert trilogy holy shit We now need Dan back on again so we can have the boiz discuss dilbert 1 2 and 3.
OMG seriously?!? "Ranch or Cool Ranch?...." I loved his RPG Barkley's Shut Up or Jam Gaiden as well! Bart the General is also a classic cartoon of his: "Marge, why are you doing this to meeeee....?" Small world.
On why Furiosa bombed: It's easy to say "People would rather Netflix and Chill" but The logic thing is that adults CANNOT watch Furiosa because they have to pay 3 or 4 tickets for Garfield. And soon they will have to pay for Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4 and Deadpool and Wolverine. Like my mom did not take me to watch Scott Pilgrim because my cousins wanted to see Shrek 4.
Thank you for another great episode, you bois really make my day when these episodes go up! I Always look forward to them!! Really hyped for the next episode, those films have been on my watchlist for years so I'm really excited to have a great excuse to watch them! Thanks again and cheers!
I'm glad Dan mentioned the sin city comparison cause that's how I felt. Would've preferred the rawness of fury road but i quite liked how much this felt like a graphic novel and you really get to see how great of a storyboard artist George Miller is
42:00 I can only disagree with this take, the moments where the music overpowers the rest of the sound effects and the moments where the dialog is clearer that the loud truck are intentional, if we can agree on that then whether you feel like it works or not comes down to personal preference, Adum thinks that it doesn't work because he thinks the movie was going for "haha fun campy" but I think it works because the movie was going for "campy" without too much of the "fun" part, don't get me wrong I know that this is the same movie with a guy with a flamethrower guitar but the thing is that it never presented scenes like that as an outright joke, Campy also means exaggerated and not just funny exaggerated.
I agree. It's also important to mention that the majority, of not all of the scenes where the music swells is from Nux's POV. It is Nux who is "hearing" the music because he is interpreting the storm as an epic, almost mythical event. The same happens near the end when he sacrifices himself. When you consider that these movies aren't exactly literal and are supposed to be a sort of fable/stories passed down in the wasteland, all of the exaggerated and "serious" parts make sense.
This was an absolutely great Sardonicast episode because Ed Wood is the movie that inspires me to make my own movies and I saw Furiosa twice in theaters! I'm glad they enjoyed both films even if they were to some extent but this episode really made my day and I'll keep listening to this one over and over! 10/10!!!
Really like the recommendation and I'm glad they're returning to form after the silly spite reviews. I think Sardonicast works best when they tackle interesting movies with a lot to say about them and when they can flesh out their takes a bit. I've never heard of these movies but now I'm looking forward to watching them. It's like being part of a film club, it's great!
11:50 this is the dream, please zach Hunt Down the Freeman is all the evidence you need that Alex is the man for the job. Following Zach since the OG Newgrounds & SleepyCast days, it's genuinely endearing to see how far the absolute madman has come.
I’m happy Smiling Friend is breathing new waves for Zach and Michael to have their fav RUclipsrs to take part in their experimental project of spectacular hilarious odyssey! For Hazbin, the problem I have recently with Vivzie is the way she structures pacing. Whether it’s involving comedy or drama, they don’t seem work for me because of how jumbled and rushed it all feels. Because of this, I never cared once for many of the characters, feels less atmospheric as hell (heh.), and the build up plot-lines falls flat by the end of S1. And that upsets me seeing so much potential it has going for.
The way my heart skipped a beat when I heard Adum say he was gonna recommend a trilogy. Anyways, day 78 of asking for an episode on the Evil Dead trilogy
As someone whos never seen a Mad Max movie I really liked Furiosa. Chris Hemsworth's character gave me Heath Ledger Joker vibes and it was cool. Clever and intense action scenes and people actually have personalities compared to a lot of other action movies where everyone has the tough guy feel. Only big complaint I had with it was the CGI; I feel like these kinds of movies would massively benefit from practical effects. Definitely a fun time though
01:26:08 I kinda disagree about the efficiency of the scripts, I remember season 1 being good but there is a lot of very sloppy writing in season 2 so far imo

I was confused about Scrotus. He wasn’t in Fury Road, but didn’t die in Furiosa despite being an important figure in the Citadel. I know the actor for Corpsus Colossus died between movies, but this is clearly a different character, not a replacement brother. Also don’t know why it stops for 30 seconds to be an origin story for The Organic Mechanic.
