yes it will, depends on what you’re doing, obviously for 1000 dollars it’s not worth but if you can get a cheap used 8GB Ram 256GB SSD macbook for everyday tasks that you do on your phone, it’s def worth it
Mac os is well optimised enough that you don't really need more. A bit like how an iphone with 4gb of ram will perform the same if not better than an android with 12gb ram

And, like android, you're not locked into the crapplesphere, so you have access to a lot more programs and customizations. Oh, and, you're being dramatic. On average IOS is around 10-15% more efficient than android. That's because it runs native without an intermediary layer. But then, stepping up to a device with more ram is over 2x more expensive with Apple tax.. Soo, you do the math... 🤣
True. I got mine 2,5 years ago and it was perfectly fine but man I do struggle right now. I didn’t change the way I use it and in fact use the same apps but the MacBook runs out of RAM like 5 times a day. I have this “force quit” window pop out at random moment forcing me to close one of the apps which as I can see uses ridiculous amount of memory (20-25gb). Ok I can close it and open it again. It takes few seconds but it’s annoying as hell when it happens 3-8 times a day. Also google chrome crashes 4-10 times a day at random moment which is a crucial, cuz sometimes I have calls on my job using chrome.
Not true. Not sure if you actually have one!! My M1 hit the ball out of the park when I do something on it. 4k 4 layers video 6 layers audio+ insane amount of transition+color correction and grading+ Adobe Photoshop in the background with many images+ 15 webpages on safari + logic pro having 8 layers of audio and Instruments and it still doesn't suck at all. The base variant is a beast- it just take few extra minutes to export and render. That's it. And few extra minutes don't matter and for those it matters they don't think about few extra 100 dollars. Most are already millionaires.

Unfortunaly, there aren't such big sales in other countries like Germany. While a MacBook Air 13 M1 costs 750$ or a Air 15 M2 999$, in Germany they cost 900€ (in $: 980) and 1350€ (in $: 1460). Same for Zenbook 14s or other good laptops
Unfortunately I dislike Microsoft and Google and avoid all their products. Apple and Linux is the only way I currently work, consume content, communicate. My workplace gave me MacBook, that helped me a lot.
main issue with these tips is that for creatives we often have to upgrade to get the power we need for our workflows, so while this is great for the average consumer, just know on the creative side of things it may not cut it.

@@user-91291 Also, you probably noticed that cheaper Apple silicon Macs were destroyed more expensive windows laptops. And the MacBooks were unplugged/on battery while having Full Performance on battery whereas windows laptops were plugged into the charger the whole video.
I got an open box (excellent new) MacBook Pro 14 18gb ram 512ssd from Bestbuy for $1600. The new one was $1700 and on sale from the original price that was $2000. And I haven’t owned my own laptop for 10 years (college) since I had a desktop, but decided it’ll be nice to have one now since I move around the house a lot. Worth the upgrade/ splurge since my last laptop was a 2012 MacBook.
This is terrible advice. The ram is non upgradable, so if you dont buy enough or limit yourself to the base model you might be in trouble a year or two down the line. Storage you can always use the cloud and external hds but ram you are kind of stuck. But storage can be a pain too, see everyone with a base mode iphone to see how that goes. I recommend going at least 16gb for future proofing unless you think the extra $ is worth buying a new laptop 2 years early.
yep 8GB of RAM is a joke I tired an 8GB M2 mac and was useless for me, filled the RAM and then was using swap and system started to stutter with micro lock ups like the SSD was struggling.

@@victorutomo7244they could easily be telling the truth. I tried the base model M2 Air because the sale and I ran into the same issues. Tested on my friend’s who has 16GB and didn’t replicate the issue. Still had some swap but barely any.
Moment he said buy base model I was like WTF 90% of base Mac's only ship with 8GB RAM and have tested M Mac with 8GB and honestly it was terrible I was able to fill the 8GB of RAM easy then the system slowed right down due to having to use the swap file via the SSD and feels like the SSD is struggling at times as once was was full the computer started stuttering, was more laggy at times than older Intel Mac's that had 16GB & 32GB and far slower CPU's So I 100% aghree with your tip given

This isnt terrible advice to the majority of users. Not everyone is using the heaviest hitting video and photo editing softwares, and so extra ram isn’t needed for most people. If you’re an average college student (which is the majority of macbook users), the base models is more than enough. Dont waste your money.

I do light video editing and coding on my Mac mini, and I’ve never felt like 8gb wasn’t enough. It would be nice to have 12 or 16gb in the base model, but I personally don’t feel like most people would benefit from it because of how efficient Macs are with ram compared to pcs
Best buy is NOT a reputable reseller! I ordered a M3 max 36gb/1tb and received an M3 pro 16gb/512gb in the box. When I contacted them, all they said was, 'it was an open box item so we can't do anything for you'?!?! This is a classic case of false advertising/bait and switch. All they had to do was send the correct model, which they refused to do. If you've ever had this happen to you, leave a comment. I am considering filing a class action lawsuit, although I don't need to because they're already guilty of deceptive advertising. Why would a company that's on the verge of becoming obsolete, want to risk the few customers that they barely have?!?! Exactly lol. And while I do agree on buying the base storage….8gb of ram will be hell for anything more than simple tasks. 16GB of ram is the sweet spot. Also, macs (and iPhone) have great resale value anyways so when you sell them to upgrade down the line, you get a lot back irregardless of buying from Apple or best buy.

I just bought a refurbished MacBook Air M2 16GB for around £950 or $1200 total. A great price that I’m paying in three instalments. Machine is pristine, battery health at 96% didnt come in an official box but everything worked perfectly. Not bad at all!

The M3 is ever so slightly better in Performance/Watt, but the x86 chips make up for it with almost double or multi-core and GPU performance. Apple Silicon was great, back in 2020, competition has caught up and surpassed.
Literally less than a hundredth of a percent of the population actually upgrades their laptop. Ultrabooks are always thin and light and most their users will be just fine with the base configuration. The fact that you need upgrade ability doesn’t translate over to all other users

I am grateful for this advice (which was given in the full youtube video few weeks back). I bought latest 16" M3 Max 48GB base model (retail @$4000) from BestBuy (open-box excellent) at $3400, saving me a whooping $600 which covered my AppleCare+ and then I saved some.
I usually find some incredible eBay deals now and then. Most of the machines aren’t in amazing condition condition or have small faults like a touchbar not working but it’s never been a biggie.
I did it the hard way. Study hard, love the products, use your time and energy, start working for Apple and you have the employee discount... Oh and you may also find out that it's really an awesome company to work for, damn I love my job.
Just bought my first ever MacBook today, saved $350+ on the 16GB / 512GB 13” M3 MacBook Air. Best Buy did a $350 off all MacBook flash sale, + the 90 savings going open box. Best sale since its release in the exact config I want. Needed the extra memory and plan on keeping it for the next 5-6 years, so the extra over the $850 base was well worth it (sale price was $1169 for anyone reading this)
If you wanted 8gb version, it's fine but you'll be limited using single or three program at the time. I advice to not buy 8 gb version of Mac if you're an extensive programmer or college student that requires high load of laptop power.

Nah retailers are also cheaper with upgrades. Otherwise it’s not beneficial To be retailer. AMAC for instance. The base one is around 100 cheaper there. While upgrades are anywhere between 20-90 cheaper. Or buy on apple student page.
I won’t buy certified used or open boxes from anyone but direct from Apple or Microsoft. Third party extended warranties are often not honored. I would rather buy outgoing model at discounted price but new. For example MacBooks M2 is still available.
8GB is for the people that dont use computers to do anything other than literally surf the web and may be word processing, as 8GB M Mac's are almost useless for real work 8 used one and was able to fill the RAM doing my normal stuff them system felt like it having issues as OS got laggy due to having to use the swap partition via the god awful SSD as it seems like when using the SSD on an M2 for swap feels like the SSD is struggling at times as the micro lock ups was crazy.
i only buy refurbished from apple / apple care with my apple card (3% cash back and 12 month 0% interest) the only thing i upgrade is the ssd my last MBP still working from 2013--let that sink in FROM 2013
I got 150 dollars off from apple plus a 250 dollar gift card (which i sold) to get a total of 350 dollars off. No other store was giving me such a good deal, but the important thing is that you check before you buy.
It's very different in Australia though. The only stock configs I'm finding at retailers are 8gb models, almost never see a retailer here with say 16gb model. I've been to local costco, jbhifi, Amazon, officeworks etc, only base 8gb models mostly. Refurbished Apple here in Australia are almost the new price, and there's very little to choose from. If anyone finds a good deal here in Australia, do reply in here.
Never again will I buy a base model MacBook, especially storage. Made that mistake back when I bought my Mid 2015 MacBook Pro 15in. I upgraded from that to a 2020 16 in all specd out MacBook Pro and I love it. Don’t have to worry about filling up 256 Gbs of storage now
Whenever I buy apple products from elsewhere, they turn out to be refurbished. So it’s always better to pay little extra and buy from authorized dealers.
Always buy a MacBook with at 16Gb RAM and 500gb of storage if you plan to do anything other than surf the internet or keep it a very short time. And if all you p,an to do is surf the internet or do very basic word processing, then by a Windows laptop, again with 16gb of ram and at least 500gb of storage. Good advice, if you think MacBook Air 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage is less, then buy MacBook Pro M3 Pro with 18 GB 512 GB storage which one can easily find on discount
TLDR: This video is for people in the US since discounts of such value do not exist outside the US. Dont buy 8gb ram model. Apple Intelligence is not going to be a smooth sailing for you when it comes out. If iam strapped for cash I'd ditch 512gb storage to 256gb to get the 16gb ram.
I'll go one step further and wait for the $250-$700 off deals. If we dont buy at full price, ever, prices will go down indefinitely. This applies to every consumer good.
Same here. I haven't bought a laptop in years. Linux is much more versatile than either Apple or Windows. As a smarthome integrator, unless you're using cloud-based apps like Amazon or Google, Linux is the only way to go.
If you were looking at an air at all you probably wont be needing the 16gb anyways, I feel its for people who want an ipad but also want an actual mac at the very least(256 is gross though and should be illegal😊)

Yeah I wouldn’t buy anything refurbished from Best Buy because my dad accidentally did he bought me AirPods Max for full price and they were refurbished and the sound was off it kept glitching out so he returned it and got me new ones and I’ve had no issues since
Anyone who buys 8gb in 2024 is crazy. The memory pressure for these devices easily exceeds 8gbs and then you have to that extra unified memory cache forward to the SSD.

Alex, it was only in the UK 2024 General Election that voter ID was mandated. It used to work in essentially the same way the US’s does. The idea that UK nationals would find it baffling that in the US you don’t need voter ID is a strange comment. Some local elections required it prior to the change but not the GE.

My M1 hit the ball out of the park when I do something on it. 4k 4 layers video 6 layers audio+ insane amount of transition+color correction and grading+ Adobe Photoshop in the background with many images+ 15 webpages on safari + logic pro having 8 layers of audio and Instruments and it still doesn't suck at all. The base variant is a beast- it just take few extra minutes to export and render. That's it.
And few extra minutes don't matter and for those it matters they don't think about few extra 100 dollars. Most are already millionaires.

I got an open box (excellent new) MacBook Pro 14 18gb ram 512ssd from Bestbuy for $1600. The new one was $1700 and on sale from the original price that was $2000. And I haven’t owned my own laptop for 10 years (college) since I had a desktop, but decided it’ll be nice to have one now since I move around the house a lot. Worth the upgrade/ splurge since my last laptop was a 2012 MacBook.

This is terrible advice.
The ram is non upgradable, so if you dont buy enough or limit yourself to the base model you might be in trouble a year or two down the line.
Storage you can always use the cloud and external hds but ram you are kind of stuck. But storage can be a pain too, see everyone with a base mode iphone to see how that goes.
I recommend going at least 16gb for future proofing unless you think the extra $ is worth buying a new laptop 2 years early.
If you need that much ram you should probably be on a windows PC 18gb will be fine for a average person
yep 8GB of RAM is a joke I tired an 8GB M2 mac and was useless for me, filled the RAM and then was using swap and system started to stutter with micro lock ups like the SSD was struggling.

This isnt terrible advice to the majority of users. Not everyone is using the heaviest hitting video and photo editing softwares, and so extra ram isn’t needed for most people. If you’re an average college student (which is the majority of macbook users), the base models is more than enough. Dont waste your money.
The less RAM you have the heavier is the strain on ssd (It has a finite limited number of r&w on such smaller drives)

I do light video editing and coding on my Mac mini, and I’ve never felt like 8gb wasn’t enough. It would be nice to have 12 or 16gb in the base model, but I personally don’t feel like most people would benefit from it because of how efficient Macs are with ram compared to pcs

I just bought a refurbished MacBook Air M2 16GB for around £950 or $1200 total. A great price that I’m paying in three instalments. Machine is pristine, battery health at 96% didnt come in an official box but everything worked perfectly. Not bad at all!

I am grateful for this advice (which was given in the full youtube video few weeks back). I bought latest 16" M3 Max 48GB base model (retail @$4000) from BestBuy (open-box excellent) at $3400, saving me a whooping $600 which covered my AppleCare+ and then I saved some.
I usually find some incredible eBay deals now and then. Most of the machines aren’t in amazing condition condition or have small faults like a touchbar not working but it’s never been a biggie.
I did it the hard way. Study hard, love the products, use your time and energy, start working for Apple and you have the employee discount... Oh and you may also find out that it's really an awesome company to work for, damn I love my job.

Just bought my first ever MacBook today, saved $350+ on the 16GB / 512GB 13” M3 MacBook Air. Best Buy did a $350 off all MacBook flash sale, + the 90 savings going open box. Best sale since its release in the exact config I want. Needed the extra memory and plan on keeping it for the next 5-6 years, so the extra over the $850 base was well worth it (sale price was $1169 for anyone reading this)

8GB is for the people that dont use computers to do anything other than literally surf the web and may be word processing, as 8GB M Mac's are almost useless for real work 8 used one and was able to fill the RAM doing my normal stuff them system felt like it having issues as OS got laggy due to having to use the swap partition via the god awful SSD as it seems like when using the SSD on an M2 for swap feels like the SSD is struggling at times as the micro lock ups was crazy.
i only buy refurbished from apple / apple care with my apple card (3% cash back and 12 month 0% interest) the only thing i upgrade is the ssd my last MBP still working from 2013--let that sink in FROM 2013

It's very different in Australia though. The only stock configs I'm finding at retailers are 8gb models, almost never see a retailer here with say 16gb model. I've been to local costco, jbhifi, Amazon, officeworks etc, only base 8gb models mostly. Refurbished Apple here in Australia are almost the new price, and there's very little to choose from.

Same here. I haven't bought a laptop in years. Linux is much more versatile than either Apple or Windows. As a smarthome integrator, unless you're using cloud-based apps like Amazon or Google, Linux is the only way to go.

If you’re enrolled on a tertiary course anywhere in the world you can get discounts directly on Apple though Apple for education
If you were looking at an air at all you probably wont be needing the 16gb anyways, I feel its for people who want an ipad but also want an actual mac at the very least(256 is gross though and should be illegal😊)

Yeah I wouldn’t buy anything refurbished from Best Buy because my dad accidentally did he bought me AirPods Max for full price and they were refurbished and the sound was off it kept glitching out so he returned it and got me new ones and I’ve had no issues since
terrible advise. trying to save 150 on a device and cutting it's life span by 5 yrs is more expensive than just buying the one you need
Anyone who buys 8gb in 2024 is crazy. The memory pressure for these devices easily exceeds 8gbs and then you have to that extra unified memory cache forward to the SSD.

Alex, it was only in the UK 2024 General Election that voter ID was mandated. It used to work in essentially the same way the US’s does. The idea that UK nationals would find it baffling that in the US you don’t need voter ID is a strange comment. Some local elections required it prior to the change but not the GE.
