    Makes alot of sense, I've always ran 40 but I thought it was for less contact surface. Never though about the springing. Solid tip.

      Yeah, I always thought only about more front tire pressure to lessen rolling resistance. Of course I have never had a car that could actually pull the front wheels. 😂

    I think you need to do a video about locking a car down TOO tight as well, and how that's detrimental. I think many people are confused about suspension limiters and how they are not just there to stop the springing up but also to cause all that weight to "spike" to overcome the leverage causing the wheelie.

  • @montestu5502
    @montestu5502 3 года назад +1

    Great tech tip. For cars like mine that are no where close to doing a wheelie, lower tire pressure may help get more lift and transfer more weight to the back for improved traction.

    Stock car tires are assigned a spring rate which is then used in the suspension tuning so this makes a lot of sense

    Excellent tip Doug. Another important tip is the small window between enough air to stop the launch recoil and over pressure on deceleration. You mentioned 2-3 pounds, sometimes it can be as little as a half pound when the track is hot on summer afternoon, especially on the higher horsepower machines.

    Now that you brought this up, I cannot remember my racing buddies checking front tire pressures. Dang. Also, my Goodyear skinnies don't have a recommended tire pressure on them so I have been running 30 psi!! No wonder the always look low and squat. I thought it was the weight of my 460 ci BBf up there. My car is retired from racing and just a pro street /cruise/car show kinda car now. Thanks very much for the Info. Good Stuff, Cheers from Motown.

    Don’t know if it’s already been brought up in a video or not tried doing some research but could you possibly go over mounting and balancing a set of slicks on a bead lock rim I know ive seen people use balancing beads but maybe go over how that works and if you should use them or not

    Excellent advice as always , if I can I would like to ask about your advice about dual pass radiators , I don’t understand the difference of using half the rad at a time and making it a dual pass vs running full available volume at once in a single pass , thanks again Doug and good luck on your charge to the sixes with that beautiful Nova .

    Also the tire with more pressure has less rolling resistance because there is less tire on the road impeeding acceleration. So as the backs try to push the front rolls easier giving the torque a vector other than up.

    Always check all 4 tire psi before rounds and even try covering the fronts up if they are exposed to direct sunlight. Coming from circle track racing, we’re worried about each corner. I’ve carried that over to drag racing

    Bracket/ index racers have used front tire pressure as a tuning tool forever, there is around .020 worth of reaction time and ET just in tire pressure alone, with the tire pressure low it makes the contact patch longer which effectively gives more roll out. Meaning your reaction time is slower, but you get a bigger running start to make the ET quicker. We are talking about extreme fine tuning but it’s an absolute fact.

    • @danmyers9372
      @danmyers9372 3 года назад +1

      I believe they run a drag radial on the Nova. Slicks are usually run at 10-12 psi, radials are run higher, in the 16-18 psi range.

    I'd really like to know more about your14v setup. In your related video you said you kept relatively a stock alternator. Based off what I read that's not adequate to charge the 14v XS battery you're running (recommended 16.8v based on their documentation). Are you just getting by with that setup or did you manipulate the voltage regulator to increase the alternator's output voltage?

    • @c5pete

    Well yeah.. adding all that weight to the front will help.. +10 lbs to each tire =20 lbs and that much weight is a lot! Wouldn't it slow your E.T some tho? 😂🤣🤣🤣

    • @danmyers9372
      @danmyers9372 3 года назад

      Adding weight will theoretically slow a car down but if it converts lost upward momentum to forward momentum the car can 60’ quicker and be way more controllable and consistent. And most importantly stop the wheelies which can cause a lot of damage to the car. Adding weight is usually a last resort when suspension and tire pressure changes aren’t working. It’s usually a problem with bad weight bias/too much weight on the rear of the car.
