The think people really miss, is the tierization. Not gear but playerwise. Back then a hardcore raider and a casual had very different gear, both stat and lookwise and did completely different places. Remember 2.3 and 2.4? There were the guilds who "WILL RAID KARA SOON LOL" . the ones doing, kara, gruul, maggy and progressing in SSC, the 5/6 SSC 3/4 TK 5/6 MH 3/9BT guilds and the ones effortlessly farming everything up to BT and SWP. People want to be different and better than eachother.
I want you to know I still find and listen to this video all the time. Still gives me chills, and this is the only place where I can seem to find it. Never take it down. Much love from Canada, October 2023.
YUhave2Bawsome As Nobbel prophesized in the machinima colab with nixxiom machinima... Illidan is back.. he is a god damn lore god.. That nobbel. Everything he prophesized before WoD was out as to what came after, has come true.. he freakin predicted THIS. And everything that's coming.
Soloing Black Temple as a Demon Hunter is really weird. Because all of a sudden, I don't see faceless mobs to kill. I see loyal Illidari soldiers. I see an army preparing to invade Argus and lay waste to the demonic homeworld of the Legion. But then they were murdered. Murdered for the crime of trying to end the burning legion. FOR LORD ILLIDAN! THE ILLIDARI CAN NOT BE STOPPED!
Trust me after reading Illidan's novel I began to hate myself for all the solos I did in BT. But I still enjoy beating the shit out of scourge zombies in ICC.
Betrayer... in truth, it was I who was betrayed! Still I am hunted... STILL I am hated! Now, my blind eyes see what others cannot! That sometimes, the hand of fate MUST be forced! Yeah, we lost Illidan, we were not prepared ¬¬
With the addition of 7.3, and the "You Are Now Prepared!" achievement for doing the Argus questline, Blizz lost out on quite possibly the best chance to introduce such a title.
Step 1: Listen to this. Step 2: Listen to 'Gardens of Karabor' from the Warlords of Draenor preview soundtrack. Step 3: Look up 'Triumphant Reprise' on TvTropes.
I can't help but shed a tear every time I hear this. Black Temple was to me the most fun and memorable raid ever. I feel so lucky that I got to play in TBC.
Dont forget the time it takes to get a raid together, the amount of times you wipe and have to run back in, and the times people leave and you have to find a replacement.
I have spent a full night now just going back listioning to all these epic pieces of music. Let me tell you nastalgia has hit me like a fist. One thing however it has helped me realize that no matter what happens to this game it will always hold a special place in my heart. Blizzard has truely put their heart and soul into this game and the epicness that is wow is just off the scale. I am sure I can speak for all of us when I say thank you blizzard for allowing us to take a part in this story
Also, Illidans corruption only began when he used arcane magic from the Well of Eternity. He was imprisoned for thousands of years (an experience that no doubt had a toll on his mind), further corrupted by the skull of Gul'dan, and then nearly cut in half by Arthas at the frozen throne. It just kind of sucked to be Illidan, always trying to do the right thing and always going about it in the wrong way.
To me this really captures Illidan's desperation... to become more powerful.. And also his great pride in the sacrifices he's made for that power... combined with the sadness of losing everything...
Illidan is not dead. He has gotten too mutch demonic energy. Demons never die they are only send back to the nether or void or what its called. Illidan will return.
He isn't a demon he is part Illidari part night elf and yes can die their is no such thing as the nether you should pay more attention to the story line. And this song is my jam
i always felt bad for illidan... he never meant to do anything wrong, for the most part, he was just trying to save his people, yes he made a few mistakes, and then in wow blizz just went and made him all out evil for some reason... he was such an awesome and complex character back in WC3 :(
***** The raid was originally designed as a 40 man level 60 raid. It was introduced near the end of Vanilla and was the hardest raid ever designed at that point. It stayed in that version throughout TBC as well, but Blizzard removed the original version, changed all the mobs and items, and put it as an intro level 80 raid in Wrath. It was the first raid that they fully *removed* from the game in its original form, followed by Zul Gurub, Onyxia's Lair, all the vanilla dungeons etc. Basically, Vanilla is dead on retail, and that annoys a lot of people, myself included.
Jordan Ehdieb "Vanilla is dead on retail" ...and? Aside from obvious nostalgia filter, what was so great about vanilla raids? Aside from, you know, nothing.
Rykanable The community of having 40 man raids. Yes some guilds had half of those 40 people do nothing. It was still an epic experience to have 40 people needed to take down a boss. And the learning experience where everything was not already explained in game. Vanilla was great, but TBC was perfect.
It's weird. I haven't played WoW in years, I haven't read the Illidan novel, and I'm fully aware Blizzard loves to retcon lore at every avenue...and yet, after playing Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne, and while raiding Black Temple, something always felt...off. It never felt like an adversary we needed to defeat, and that motivations were not clear. Despite how incredible the raid was, our actions felt wrong somehow. Nice to see the new lore explore that, even if it might be viewed as revisionist by some, I certainly don't view it that way.
I agree. The game is not ruined. What we experienced when we first played the game back in vanilla is what it will be like for someone starting a new account today. The only thing I don't agree with is the overall direction they have taken with the talents, some of the classes, Having a guild infrastructure was pretty much gone from WOTLK too. Raids were a little too easy to a point where you could raid without a guild or any co-ordination through voice chat. Cata fixed this though :)
I miss the TBC, but i remember the first time than get up there, saw him, and wipe (2 weeks after the server changed to WotLK, and 1 week after i level up to 70), the raid disbanded, but i stay alone up there with Ilidan, the beautiful scenario than the sky show me, and with such and endless song, i never forget that
Betrayer... In truth, it was I who was betrayed. Still, I am hunted. Still, I am hated. Now, my blind eyes see what others cannot--that sometimes the hand of fate must be forced!
True, I play there for 2 months now, and the content what is out is pure blizzlike. I missed the old TBC days, and feenix wow brings back those memories ;)
Such a weird feeling listening to this and reading all these 10+-year-old. It's been 16 years since I was first here. Insanity. This was and is still the pinnacle of WoW
The difficulty to even get to BT(before nerfs), its amazing environment, the awesome music, the thoughness of advancing boss after boss and the history related to every single step you did in there made defeating Illidan one success so heartfilling that nobody out of the game could even imagine. It may be something "useless" for your quotidian life but some experiences in wow raids were really impressing and involved REAL feelings that made normal people feel triumphant for one day.
Another thing about WotLK is that everything got so overpowerd. Now you can three or four hit a cloth user with a rogue while using ambush. It's just sick. Back then in TBC you needed skills the fights took longer than now. Spells wern't that over powered back then. I just h8 WoTLK. And Cataclysm will be a big mistake to. Goblins with 15 racial skills? like what thell or a damn tauren paladin? or nightelf mage? Like what the hell is that.
The problem I had with Wrath raiding was that most people got lazy after beating the Normal modes, as easy as they were, that they didn't feel like raiding it again on a harder difficulty. Plus, the classes were so changed up in Wrath that you could have done things that would have otherwise been impossible in the past.
This was the prime of WoW. ICC is seriously overrated BT was a real challange. And advanture. Let's never forget how Kael was hard to pass before the Attu
and now we have some freakin pandas.. even though the new zones are incredibly well made, the old times were the best, not because of nostalgia but because the game felt more rewarding back then, and we fought raid instance after raid instance to finally kill the endboss of the whole expansion! Epic
I remember the first time I got into a REAL raiding guild back in Burning Crusade... The coordination the guild had was mind-blowing, I was highly impressed... Nowadays trash is easy enough to just tank and spank and bosses, well... Hasn't been very interesting since Ulduar

classical music has really fallen off since the 40's. but this is a serious piece of music. so was much of the entire first expansion and the vanilla wow. i would like to think that music moves into games. it seemed to happen with WoW, but i havent seen anything like it since.
igor govaerts Did i say something about bringing back Illidian, or anithing that could fuck up wow's lore? Find another way to dissipate your rage, moron.
Night elves weren't able to use magic because of the corruption and destruction of the well of eternity...high elves used the Sunwell, blood elves used various other methods, and now use the purified Sunwell. The new lore EXPLAINS that uncorrupt Highbourne have returned to darnassus. The highbourne were the night elf mages that followed Azshara before the original well of eternity was destroyed, a series of events which led to them becoming naga. They can absolutely use magic.
Best raid in the history of the game. Nowadays it's all about making content "accessible for everyone", effectively ruining the feel of epicness associated with setting foot in certain areas. While accessibility has its perks, so many newcomers and idiots fail to realize that some degree of exclusivity can create the most amazing, epic atmosphere to certain areas, making them feel truly sinister and out of reach, as an objective to strive towards. The gratification felt when conquering them...
the game has changed so much mate, aggro is no longer a problem, which was hard to control in "bc" boss mechanics were far easier, look a Lei Shen, by far the most complex boss fight blizzard has created so far, but the problem we're facing is the global expanding world, people has less time than ever, which means raiders dont have time to raid for 20 hours or more a week to get a single raid down, which bliz saw and made LFR, so the average player could see the content, not only endgame raiders
There is no solid proof but at blizzcon Metzen asked "Do you guys want Illidan back?" and the crowd exploded, he said that he'd find some way, at the same panel later on he said he loved a good redemption story. There is also a theory about illidan coming back which makes sense, I'll go into more detail if you're interested. We also know from hints that we're probably going to go to the homeworld of the burning legion, what better motivation for Illidan to come back?
My friends, do not worry. Before long your thirst for demon blood shall be sated. There is no doubt at all that the burning legion is next, again. After mop. I -LOVE- fighting the burning legion. There is proof. First, is what wrathion says. Second is what Emperor Shaohao says. They both say "The coming Darkness" And that the Horde AND the Alliance must unite as one to survive. Thus, the burning legion comes yet again.

By far this is my favorite song!
