Thank you for this. We are now dedicating our small space to (mostly) growing herbs as we cook, so we need to be able to harvest without worrying. Feel guilty as I’m allowing my herbs to flower as the blooms look so lovely, although I know I should cut the flowers off. Even if the plants don’t do as well, I think it’s worth it.
Today is spring clean up day and I happened upon this great site. I’m planning on making a thyme and mint pesto with the straggly thyme branches and now I’m going to give a try using your method . This could be great on the budget and so rewarding too. I also can really use a boost in my mood :) I’ll let you know if my scraggly bits live again . Thanks for sharing.
Thank you much for taking the time to leave a comment. Glad you enjoyed the video! ❤ I was in a slump today but you motivated me to finish off my videos! My Indoor herb garden playlist is designed for growing on a budget and introducing new gardeners to growing ❤
Hi, I just came across your channel and have to say I love it because I just got into home gardening and am loving it , now I will have to go watch all your previous videos
This method works for oregano too. I found potting directly into soil using say a 600ml recycled drink container exactly as you have done, then putting that in a bigger, let's say a 1.25 litre container to use as a deep saucer and fill halfway with water gets better results. I believe this method works better after trying your way which is great & also trying putting the cuttings in soil only. Essentially I drown the stems until roots are well established in water logged soil for about a month. Then I transfer into either a bigger permanent pot or into the ground. I noticed some of my plants died when I transferred from water only to soil because of root shock, the roots have never experienced soil before.
I found a nursery here in Michigan that sells the potted plant for only $3 . I'm going to pinch some off to see if I can get more rooted . Since it's about a foot long .
I’ve noticed the same thing when I started propagating thyme. I only ever get successful growth out of the woody type stems, and never out of the younger green stems. I shouldn’t say never, it just takes a lot longer.
@@CloudGardenerUK yeah I was just looking to see at what point the roots are established enough to put it in soil. I currently have a little bush sitting in water 😂 from what I could see I need to wait a bit longer before mine is ready for a pot.
I have some woody thyme that I just stuck into a pot with potting soil since I'm too lazy to do the water propagation. I hope they root! Thanks for this video.
Thank you so much for sharing the channel. It will really help it to grow. You can also follow me on Facebook or Instagram on Cloud Gardener UK and share your pic that way! I am sooo excited to see how you do! ❤❤
@@CloudGardenerUK That would be wonderful 😍 I've got a few friends who also manage to keep killing their cilantro plants off too 🙃 so it would be great to see how to grow them and how to keep them alive!
I thought so.. in the UK when we buy bags of "compost" from the store.. it's the equivalent to US potting mix. We can use it to seed start, top up raised beds etc. & for house plants you buy different types of "potting mix" for orchids, calatheas etc Then you have your homemade "organic compost".. which is where you'd be organically breaking down organic matter etc. So long story short.. for you.. just a regular potting mix would be great for the Thyme. I hope that helps 🙈😂😊

I may try this for my next video! Thank you!
Thank you,-going to do this as I want to give some as gifts too to friends and neighbours.

Lovely. It also works with basil!😊
Thanks for this video. Got more success using this method. Keep it up.
Take cuttings from a flowering plant, and use a heated propagator, the roots grow much quicker at around 21c with humidity rather than actual water!
Cool! Thank you!!

Exactly! It's so weird. I decided to just do my own thing with it! 🤣 so glad the video helped anyway ❤

Thanks I am going to try.
Good luck!! Let me know how it goes🥰👍🏾
Thank you for your detailed information
Thank you. Good luck with your project!

That should work too! Just try and keep them humid with a lif if possible! Good luck x
Excellent stuff Jason
I'm trying this with an oregano plant I have 👍
Amazing! Let me know how it goes! x
like you video,i will try it
Good luck! ❤
I took a picture to show you but I don’t think I can post a pic on a RUclips channel . I will share your channel with a few friends that garden.

Great video, thank you! ould you do the same thing with cilantro?
Yes you can although it's a little tricky. I could do a video on this topic if you like? 🥰

How long was that thyme in that cup before you put it in the soil
Thank you very much
You can do this with basil too
Do you have to change the water every 2days?

What is the difference between compost and potting soil?
There isn't much difference.. although where are you based?
@@CloudGardenerUK the u.s. I thought compost was made from like food scraps, etc.
