  • Why didn't Verstappen give the place to Perez to help his fight against Leclerc, despite Red Bull asking him to on the radio? After an exciting Brazillian GP at Sao Paolo, there was tension in the air between Red Bull's drivers, with a supposed past incident the reason behind Max's refusal. Luke Smith takes a look at what happened, why it matters so much, and what the incident in question could be.

I think what makes all of this so tough is that Checo is almost universally liked across the paddock and by F1 fans in general. He has a massive following and for all of us to get a front-row view of this nonsense made it that much worse.

It wasn't pathetic when Checo missed out on Q2 in Holland that year while finishing a distant 8th(i believe), and Max was having to scramble and fight till the last race for that championship? No, that's Checo doing his best and we should support him at all costs. And all of you point to the last race saying how valiantly Checo fought. Pathetic. He had to after how badly he drove that car all year. Max almost paid dearly for having Checo as his teammate in 2021. Max doesn't owe Red Bull anything. Without Max, Red Bull would be in 2nd or 3rd place--not 1st.

  • @random-person1

everyone know where the power is, with verstappen. the moment horner offered him $25 million per year and gave him all the encouragement to drive like an animal last year, and backed him with every increasingly dangerous move he made, horner and red bull became their own worst enemy with regard to verstappen. he now thinks the team work solely for him, schumacheresque if you will. and they will come out on his side again, or might already have done so, with "we didnt really have the right to ask verstappen to give the place to his team mate. it was his legitimately so it is what it is." and so verstappen will go unpunished and unchallenged from now on. and remember, this isnt the first time he has refused to give the place back. s=does anyone remember when he shouted out "NO" when told to give the place back in 2015 singapore gp after sainz had been told to give the place to his team mate! on the flip side, when lewis asked for bottas to move over, i think maybe russia but could be wrong, when lewis couldnt make any headway himself, and going against his team, lewis did indeed give the place back to a very grateful bottas. kinda opens your eyes as to why more people respect lewis over max!

These are all nice words, but it doesn't really matter in the end. Max is the top driver with the best car. He is very consistent. Red Bull are doing exactly what they need to do to be #1. To not work with the top driver in the sport and give him the best car possible that would suit his preferences would be a disgrace. Why do that and sacrifice a possible championship? It's possible behind the scenes Max made major concessions to be teammates with Checo, and for business purposes it was a huge move for F1(Checo is from Mexico, increased viewers in the US and Mexico arguably b/c of Checo being in a top car). Frankly, Checo should have done better in 2021 and had more 1-2 finishes with Max rather than having to defend for Max in that last race. So maybe Max didn't owe Checo anything.

This is the dumbest conspiracy theory ever. Why would Checho crash on purpose when he was behind both Ferraris at that point in quali (usually almost guaranteeing their victory)? If not for the usual Ferrari strategy clown-show, Ferrari would've walked away from Monaco with a crushing 1-2. How does crashing benefit Checo at all?? I’m not saying this makes the theory correct, but the crash did benefit Checo more than VER. Everyone knows that the higher up the grid you start in Monaco, the higher you chances of winning. Keep a driver like max behind definitely has a lot of benefit to it. Again, I don’t think Checo did that.
I am curious as to what max is referring to though. He wouldn’t just randomly say we talked about it and I stand by it without referring to something in specific.

It's disappointing that MV is so small minded. Being an F1 great is so much more than results and stats. I don't think that sportsmanship was ever part of MV's makeup but it sure as heck isn't now. He seems to forget that F1 is a team sport and that team members are far more likely to go the extra mile for someone that they like. I'm not a huge LH fan, but he's been dignified throughout the year during MB's loss of form and the rise of GR. I can well imagine that the whole MB team is pulling out all of the stops even harder as a result. When (and it will one inevitably happen) MV's star wanes I seriously doubt that the same will apply. All this after so many pundits have commended MV on maturing this year..... It seems only tactically and his character is still stunted.

What kind of dumb move THAT would’ve been? He would’ve risked crashing bad enough to ruin his race. But even IF that was the case, the championship for Max is long over, not to mention the massive help Checo gave Max in his first championship and beyond. Look no further than this season, like in Spain, for instance.
I’m glad this happened. Now people can see what a lot of us have been saying this whole time. He’s a fantastic driver, but he’s a petulant child. A spoiled brat. He a has a TON of growing up to do before he can be called a legend.

People are desperate to know what "incident" made Verstappen justify his decision. If it were the Monaco incident, and so many people are just assuming that, then Verstappen's reasons are bang out of order and why would his reasoning not continue into the next race, has he taught Perez a lesson? It makes zero sense that Verstappen would not help Perez in Brazil, but then would in Abu Dhabi.
Verstappen talks about the team, but that is team Max he is referring to, not Red Bull. Horner is too petrified of losing Verstappen that there will be no penalty for Verstappen for refusing team orders. With both the Drivers and Manufacture Titles secured Horner and Marco could easily demonstrate their authority and drop Verstappen for the last race, just to show them who is the boss, that they won't means that that question seems to have been answered.

Lauda agreed with Lewis because they had a 1-2 on and they panicked in the pit lane when the distance to rosberg closed. max is so far beyond wrong and no one high up in rb will come out to defend what he did. do you see the difference now, do you see why your statement is absolute bull? no i don't love lewis or max, but I can see who the better person is.
