- I'm making a documentary about New Orleans and could not include this scene. But it was the most inspiring moments of my experience in the city. This phenomenon woman made me buy an instrument as soon as I came home.
She did NOT lose her breath in that one, but made everyone lose their own, making very lively street art in New Orleans.
The House of The Rising Sun, by Doreen's Jazz Band!
No wonder people calle her "The clarinet queen". She's got soul, she's got music, she's got voodoo in her. Just amazing
why'd you post the same comment twice?
absolutely agree tho

I’ve never heard a more powerful clarinet in my life!
Clarinets are amazing when they are being played by the right people
You wont hear another one in your lifetime. This woman is a gift to us, right here right now.

That clarinet growl is amazing!
Jack Daniels.
I admire that growl as well but how does she do ii?
Men do it by literally growling down the clrt (or sax) because their vocal chords took a giant hormonal leap south at the time when their beards of the future had just appeared.
Doreen, lady that she clearly is, MUST rattle that poor reed (Christ..What it really has to put up with!) using a rasping TONGUE
technique.
Astounding..
From a Limey reed player who played with Gerry Pekinto on Decatur Street,, N.O at The Crescent City Brewery in 2000,
Google...LIMEY and Mauriat Ottolink!
@@MauriatOttolink That exotic 'growl' is not a growl at all. What it is is what we call a 'flutter' tongue. Basically, if you can roll your r's when speaking Spanish, or a similar romance language, then you are almost ready to master the flutter tongue technique. It does take some practice, and you normally just see this with sax players. There is also a technique call growling that sax players use that does involve humming into the sax as you play it. I find the flutter tongue easier than growling, but it's a matter of experimenting and practicing.
No one but other musicians will truly understand how much talent this woman has. To hold that upper octave embouchure for that length of time and maintain the clarity and steady reverberation.... oh man. They clap because it's cool. I cry because it's magic. Love you Miss Dorene. You're a gift.
Im no musician, but even I can plainly see that this woman is on a whole other level.
That's a bit arrogant to say, but I catch your drift
I've been crying for like 30 minutes watching all of this angels musical feats. I'm dumbfounded, playing music for years and feel like I'm at my first piano lesson.
@@CharlieTheAstronaut lol are you offended 🤣
Never heard such amazing work.
How amazing is that? Seeing people literally take seats on the sidewalk to listen to her is so wholesome
I spent three hours listening to her whole performance ten days ago. And what her husband Lawrence did on the Sousaphone with "Summertime" was also stunning.
Miss Dorene is a treasure here in Louisiana. Guarantee you a quarter of those people drive hours to New Orleans JUST to see her play. Truly a phenomenally talented woman.
My chills have goosebumps... I have never been so completely floored after finding a new artist. This talent makes me weep...
Same… she’s soooooo great 😊 👍🏻 my new discovery too! ♥️
It goes without saying that Doreen Ketchens is a world class musician, but my man on Souza also playing kit!?! That must be exhausting and the tone he manages to get out of, what looks like a fiberglass or plastic bodied sousaphone, is wonderful. That's one way to make sure your bass and drums are in perfect time😉
can we just take a minute to acknowledge the badass playing two instruments at once!
She is amazing. I don't undrstand why she doesn't have her own big band.
She hace
holy shit - she held that forever and still put butterfly wings on the end.. incredible!
I don't play instruments, but she held that note from 2:13 for 30 seconds. I feel like if I did that my insides would explode.
When I played trumpet as a child I was taught a technique called circular breathing where you use the air in your mouth to play while breathing in through your nose. I'd imagine it's roughly the same for clarinet, maybe a bit more difficult.
When I was in NOLA a few years ago I was lucky enough to see her perform in her favorite spot on the street. She is the queen of street musicians
Yeah the growl is incredible but can we talk about how fucking on point those glissandos are? She'd make Gershwin cry
Benny Goodman too.
The clarinet sound is so poetic. So does the singer. What a performance.
GOD gave this woman an amazing talent and she does it proud!!!
This kind talent seems to be in every neighborhood and on every corner in NOLA, God bless and "keep on keepin" NOLA!
You got that right!!
The whole band is amazing!!! The Queen🙏🏽, dude playing drums and tuba not an easy feat! Awesome, got to go to NOLA asap!
He blew for 30 seconds with the clarinet. It's a very long time 🤭👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Doreen is a she, not a he.
Awesome....That lady and her band is the bomb (JUST AMAZING)
Everything from 01:50 is murder! She slays it. Amazing!!!
She loves that music, her instrument, but what a humble person.
Blows me away. Every time. Difficult instrument played so expertly and so beautifully!
Today, I witnessed the beauty of pure talent. Thank you Ms. Doreen.
This is perhaps the greatest musical performance I have ever seen.
Wow that brought tears to my eyes! Holy crap.
Amen.
Thank you for all the love you are giving to the world. From Dominican republic.
Doreen is the queen, but that guitar player forgot to tune his guitar.
+Pedro Salles You're right, it's out, but it is kinda hard to keep in tune outside, especially when the temperature is changing.
@@fenderstratguy Come on man, not in this century. I've played on that street day after day and never let the old guit get out of tune like that...
you don't need to tune your guitar if you like the way it sounds, asshole.
@ZBop unfortunately not really the way it works.... in a band, all members should be tuned TOGETHER.. now there are groups that love to COLLECTIVELY tune their instruments down a step, or up a step, but they are all in tune with each other and they are still on actual named notes. In this instance because the guitar player was out of tune with the other players, it doesn't work. period.
I was just thinking the same thing.
That she would let him continue is just plain poor band leadership.
I got a trip to NOLA on my bucket list and you damn right I wanna see Doreen and buy her a beer or a shot
Not surprising to see that many people watching and listening.
jazz music over any other genre any day of the year
You imbecile

A 30-count 🎶 Whole Note 🎵 simple amazing
a very talented musician who truly loves her craft.
Beautiful
This must have recorded in the freezing depths of a bleak New Orleans winter.
Poor old Doreen was well-dressed for the Arctic weather in a Ruskie fur hat and a quilted padded jacket.
Great stuff D.
Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to get thru' any of that fabulous stuff without your goldurned teeth a-chatterin' like a beaver building a dam on Ponchatrain!
I on the other hand, was just a-sweating off my eyebrows, simply by watching you struttin' yo stuff!
Wao. Sin palabras ante éste talento.
Lang veri god!!I am from KAZAKHSTAN.

These individuals should thank god. THey happened to be listen to the finest clarinet period
OMG!? SHE'S NOT THE CLARINET QUEEN, SHE IS THE FRICKIN CLARINET GODDESS!!
National Treasure...
Wow!
sweet 👍👌 😊
Doreen the best.
When someone is pouring out their Spirit essences 0⁰ into the soulful music like this with such intensity that she does wear she's doing a circular breathing and holding that no that's that's God that she's communing with God right there
Why is she playing in the street? With this kind of talent, she can travel the world in style.
thanks god give her on earth
he has not paid by Hollywood but his talent has no different ... thump up for this team...
Holy cow that is absolutely dynamite!!!!
She must have listened a lot to JImmy o'Bryant, obscure clarinet-player of the Twenties
Chills :D
Wow
She has ALL the keys.
Right in her front pocket.
Donations Excepted!!!!!!!
the lady behind in the red hair cried all through her performance Lmao
