    It doesn’t take a genius to understand the difference between a 162 game schedule 7 days per week and 82, and 12 etc… of course football players go super hard for ONE game per week and it’s high intensity and dangerous… basketball is less intense and less dangerous which is why they play more often than football… then comes baseball, however with baseball, aside from the fact that it’s EVERY DAY for 6-7 months, there’s also a whole bunch of STOP and GO… you go from completely cold, to 100% several times per game…. That is INCREDIBLY bad when it comes to likelihood for injury… you don’t even have to know much about out baseball to understand these things….. Steven A just wants to drum up controversy and excitement… that’s all it is

    I have mixed feelings on this. SAS brought up some valid points and so did this clip. I lost interest in Papelbon once he brought up Trumps name, but i do feel SAS had a brutal take on Trout. He's not completely wrong, but don't fully agree with what he said. Trout's unavailability should piss people off because its not good for the game of baseball overall when one of the best players is chronically hurt every year. Baseball is not a contact sport in the sense of football, hockey, and even basketball. Injuries do happen, but trout is held to a certain standard each year and when he gets hurt, it takes him much longer to recover than other players do. I don't know why, it just does.

    • @bryanlee8304
      @bryanlee8304 4 месяца назад

      that's like saying we should be pissed at Penny Hardaway or Grant Hill. Unless someone blatantly doesn't take care of themselves and doesn't give a shit about, no one should ever be pissed at any player in any sport for getting injured. Shit happens. Every single persons body in this world is different, sometimes there's nothing you can do about it no matter how bad you want it. It probably takes him longer to recover because he, and the trainers, don't want to throw him back into it too soon knowing he's already injury prone and think giving it extra time to heal would be best overall, not just for re-injury of whatever they're recovering from but also because it's added risk you'll injure something else as your body tries to compensate for the previous injury.

    Stephan A is a sports media personality of a very specific era. I'm thinking the 90's to 00's sports talk radio type personality who is loud, kind of angry, and highly opinionated. It's all an act meant to get attention. It's sports talk click-bait from before the social media era. He's mainly a basketball guy. That's his sport. He knows basketball very well but even then you can't take anything he takes seriously. It's all an act. He will occasionally chime in on other sports but you can instantly tell that he has no idea what he's talking about. He says these things because he knows he'll get attention and unfortunately it kind of works. Look at me, i'm writing RUclips comment because of it.

      It truly is a “The worst person you know has a good point.” situation. Like I don’t like Papelbon but I can at least respect his opinion on *baseball* simply because dude played it so he knows more than someone like SAS who exclusively deals in sensationalist drama to farm engagement.

    50/50 on this because Valid points were made on both sides. There's a reason why people say "availability is the best ability".. and if you're always injured in a traditionally non-contact sport - that is a cause for concern. On the other hand there's a lot more nuance to baseball as opposed to other sports. Don't they play like what 187 games and although they might not be pushing their bodies to the ultimate limit on a game to game bases - that is Still Extreme wear and tear. And hasn't MT been playing since he was like 19 years old in the league so it doesn't surprise me that a high-level player going to have some lingering injuries even if it's not a high level player. This is kind of just a stupid argument to have but the media's gonna media. Seems like these guys were more annoyed with SAS' tone than what he was actually saying.

    Stephen A has never caught an out on a dive, hit a ball out of the park at a high velocity, or threw a ball with such force from the outfield, that you pick off a runner.
    Baseball players, especially Trout, are better athletes than he thinks.

Oh and you were an ok closer, too. The game needs more characters. Stephen A is irrelevant - too damn old to be "dancing" for his E$PN money. They encourage that shit.

    Best comment by Papp was ESPN is ultimately responsible. Keith Olberman had a week earlier tore down S.A Smith’s ignorant and non appropriate political comments by a guy who barely even knows sports let alone politics . You guys and gals continue to produce a quality product of NON-FILTERED MLB conversation. Someday someone is going to offer you a huge sum of money and you are going to be inclined to take but be careful they may just be silencing your speech. We need people like you to tell truth to power.

    14:26 This is the most important takeaway from this discussion and is why the rise of independent media is such a BFD. 20 years ago, ESPN was basically your only option for sports coverage. MLB Network aside, the amount of channels like Foul Territory offer fans a lot of choices. And ESPN has struggled to retain viewers because they aren't adapting. I'm shocked Skip Bayless is still a thing. Stephen always had a thing for catchy soundbytes, so no surprise he's hanging around.
    I WILL say I think AJ is cut from a similar cloth as Stephen A Smith, but he balances his loose tongue with honesty and great analysis. Loved him as a player, am thrilled to see him thriving as an analyst on here.

    Center Field is somewhat of a taxing postion with plenty of running..
    With that being said, I think Mike Trout is carrying too much weight for the position and should change up his workout routine and diet. If he was a lean 210ish instead of linebacker type build at 240-250 he probably wouldn't get injured as much

However, I always liked Mike Trout.He got married and signed a 420 Million Dollar contract. Then he has got something wrong each year since but he still seems to come back and cranks out 30 HR's. So whomever wants to trash talk him they should go talk to him in person or at the ballpark. Does espn need change? No Doubt. At least we all know a lot of people are looking for ratings.

Stephen A Smith is the highest paid commentator at espn and Mad Dog is a legend and a pioneer in the sports talk business. Trout makes huge money and is never on the field. It is fair to criticize that. It's every year the same thing. Young Guys in the 20's and early 30's shoukd not be getting hurt running bases. I'm a Twins fan and it's the same thing with Buxton every year.
