    Gorgeous bike, you got me all perked up to get one just like it, then you reminded me of friends who had their Harley engines blow up due to no oil in the valve train, it ruined their rids and Harley was not there for them..they had the twin cam bikes... I am not going to get the new SGS unless I can find some reason to trust the bike will be well built and not just a money pit....

  • @dheller777

    Beautiful ride for sure. I have had a co-pilot with me the last 43 years of my riding life so the backrest would have to go. I do hear the familiar HD clunk when down shifting, some things never change. I would love to ride with the new engine and feel the difference from my HD engines. If I were to pick between the SG and the RG the SD would win for sure. Thanks again and ride safe brother.

    • @CaptainSBW
      @CaptainSBW  8 лет назад

      Your co-pilot is your backrest, lol. I'm glad they didn't eliminate the shift-clunk. I've always found it a bit comforting. I discovered this morning that it can be just as temperamental about finding neutral as any Harley, but the secret, at least to me, was to turn the ignition on. It clicks right in on the first try. I toyed with the idea of an RG, but while I think it looks mean from the front, I just don't care for the fixed fairing. Makes the thing look nose heavy and I don't care for how the instruments are angled. Ride safe yourself, bud, and throw up a video every now and then!

    Color is awesome. Must be amazing in the sun. I have that same headlight on my wife's FreeWheeler trike. While it's better than the dual halogens I had on my 2001 RoadGlide it's no match for the DayMaker and LED spots on my Limited. If you ride at night you're gonna need a DayMaker on that new SGS.
    I plug my iPhone in so it'll charge and I can access the ipod for music while keeping a Bluetooth connection for telephone calls. I plug in with a wired Harley headset to communicate with a passenger that's plugged in, use voice recognition and telephone. Voice recognition works really well but you'll need to connect that mic setup somehow. Really happy with the setup on my '15 Limited.
    Ride safe and enjoy man!! Congrats!!

    • @CaptainSBW
      @CaptainSBW  8 лет назад

      The video doesn't come close to doing justice to the paint job. I was afraid I would miss the Daymaker. I will also miss the aux lamps. Looks like I've already spent my income tax refund for next year! The SGS doesn't come with a hard connection for a headset so any comms with the bike will have to be done via bluetooth. We'll see how that works out. I'm positively giddy over this thing! Ride safe!

  • @That_Paul_Guy
    @That_Paul_Guy 8 лет назад

    Your color is the opposite of mine, Black Quartz. I love Harley paint jobs, for the most part you get more than you initially thought the closer you get to the bike. Details like that are really cool. Regarding that clutch lever...it does let out late and you feel the assist and slip ramps working in the clutch itself. Amazing how much smaller the bikes without the tour pack look...that and your wide angle view.

    Harley Trek - I have to say Thank You for these Vids of you getting your New Bike last year. I ended up going in and looking at both the Street Glide and Road Glide, I like the Street Glide from your vids But... I bought the Road Glide Special (Laguna Orange. The "Certificate of Origin" stated: 92 Horse Power... Dayemn!!) , it fit me better plus I liked the Dual - Brighter headlights that it came stock with & the Frame Mounted Fairing. I live in Portland OR, going to see if I can connect up with Shawn Smoak for a day ride out here when the weather dry's up. Anyway a Big Thank You!!

    If you mount a RAM recommend the universal handlebar mount but then get the 1" extension. That way it doesn't stick out too far. Works & looks great. Take a look at Shawn Smoak's on his 2017 SGS.

    You need to get a Sena Freewire in order to interface your Sena 10s or 20s to your Harley. Harmon-Kardon did not make the system bluetooth headset compliant, so this is the easiest way to do it. The Freewire acts as an invisible cable from the Harley plug to the headset. Also, since you don't have an Ultra like I do, you will have to install the 7 pin DIN connector on your Glide in order to make use of this feature.

    That is one SEXY bike, brother. That paint is gorgeous! I notice you don't have heat shields. Notice any heat issues? I love how you can see the engine more on your bike than on mine. Beautiful engine! Sounds great too. So refined.
    It is such a pleasure to see you on this fantastic machine! Enjoy and keep the rubber on the road!

    • @CaptainSBW
      @CaptainSBW  8 лет назад +1

      Thank you, brother! Heat isn't terrible even without shields although I have them on order. This model doesn't come with them. The power plant is more showcased on the SGS versus the Limited, but I know you're loving the sound as well! I don't think I'll have any problem resisting the temptation to Stage this bike. I asked about break-in and they told me that it didn't need any babying, just bring it in for the 1K service.

  • @james82744
    @james82744 8 лет назад

    It seems as though it sounds pretty good stock :-) I have been hearing that it shifts smoother than the 14-16. Smoother start out of 1st.

    • @CaptainSBW
      @CaptainSBW  8 лет назад

      True to all of the above! I think I'm have a bit of a timing issue between shifting and throttle engagement, totally operator error. This is my first throttle by wire bike so I just have to make the adjustment. This thing is so powerful stock that a Stage 1 would be scary for me!

      @CaptainSBW  8 лет назад

      Yep, either the stubby or hidden antenna. The wind isn't bad with the fairing vent, but I'll keep that in mind. I've discovered the halogen headlight is terrible. Need to get another Day Maker. Ride safe and thanks for watching!

    • @pballzrican
      @pballzrican 8 лет назад

      thx for posting. and if you want something diff and in my opinion better then the day maker, the paul yaffe "never night" headlights is better then the day maker when it comes to the corners and look. check them out there about the same price.

    May I ask a question? Why do you ride in the left lane when there are 2 lanes? Is it a safety reason?

    • @dennythomas8887
      @dennythomas8887 7 лет назад

      I do the same thing on a 4 lane road because I can't even remember how many times some idiot made a right turn in front of me coming from a side street. I've come close to trading paint with many cars for that reason. Like you said just a safety thing...And don't get me started on how many times somebody made a left in front of me.......

    Pick your RPMs up a little bit on shifting 2500+ and rev match on downshifting and about 80% of that noise will go away my new 2016 softail slim S screaming eagle 110 does the same thing when I shift lazy but I'm looking at a road king or street glide to purchase at the beginning of the year but I'm Diggin that white

    • @CaptainSBW
      @CaptainSBW  8 лет назад

      Thanks for the tip! Now that it's broken in, I need to get out of the habit of babying it. I love the Softail Slims! The white on the new bikes is amazing in person. The best selling color is Vivid Black, but I like to buck the color trend and pick something you don't see a lot of. It definitely gets noticed! Either bike you choose is a dream, but I have a friend, Freedom Rider, who has a 16 Road King and has just bought a 17 SGS. He takes delivery in January. Thanks for watching!

    The current 6.5 GT Boom Box does not have a headset profile programmed in from the manufacturer. Are they working on it is anyone's guess. You'll have to add the headset jack or adaptor that plugs into the back of the radio. The plug will be mounted to the side of the tank console on top of the tank. That's the only way you'll be able to use the voice command feature as well as answer phone calls and other neat features this unit offers.

    Hello HarleyTrek...Congratulations on the new bike. I'm planning on getting either a Street or Road Glide before the year ends. • @CaptainSBW
      @CaptainSBW  8 лет назад +1

      Thank you and thanks for subscribing! You won't regret the decision to go with a 107, regardless of model. Once they ran my credit, they asked me for my list, took me around to pick them out, and had them on in about an hour. It was a giddy feeling to walk around the store and say I'll take that and that and that! The only thing they didn't have in stock was the mid-frame heat deflectors. I will have to go back for those. Ride safe!

    • @CaptainSBW

      I had everything done when I bought the bike, and I waited. Was there about 3 hours from test ride to ready to roll out. If you add the upgrades at the time of purchase, it can be financed into the loan. It was about 1500 bucks for what they did, and then I put about 800.00 more in later with windshield, LED lights, and luggage rack. Thanks for watching!

    • @CaptainSBW
      @CaptainSBW  7 лет назад

      The low windshield looks bad-a**, but is totally useless at speeds greater than 30 mph. I'm 5'8" and it may as well had none at all. I went with a Freedom Shields windshield, 7 inch dark gray tint. Much better

    I have a 2016 special....what you do is buy and install a 7 pin din plug on the dash. get a sena freewire, hook it to the 7 pin. then Bluetooth your phone to the bike and Bluetooth your sena to your helmet through the 7 pin. all will work, go to law abiding biker.com to see all info about using sena and 7 pin din.

    • @CaptainSBW
      @CaptainSBW  7 лет назад

      Thanks for commenting! I have seen that option, but there's still stuff you have to bolt to the handle bars, which is not elegant. My gripe is that the top of the model line should be fully equipped without having to buy the Ultra line. There is an option of mounting the connector inside the fairing and routing the wiring for the Freewire into the media garage, which may actually be the direction that I go. Thanks for watching, and ride safe!

  • @boss5horse115

    There is so much wind with that bike and road glide that will rip you off the seat. How do people stand it??? Taller shield or wind dampeners? Would anything work??? Please help as I'm looking to own one of the two. Thanks

    • @CaptainSBW
      @CaptainSBW  8 лет назад +1

      Personally, I don't think there is a huge amount of wind on this bike. There is wind, yes, but compared to my Sportster with no fairing it's a night and day difference. There is more wind than on my former Ultra Classic. You can go with a taller windshield and fairing wind deflectors. You can even go so far as to install hard lower fairings like an Electra Glide. That's the biggest thing to get used to is more wind on my legs. They make soft lowers that go over the highway bars, and I've heard good reviews for. The bike is fantastic, but there are definitely steps you can take if you want to cut the amount of wind you're experiencing. Take care and thanks for watching!

      ronleon62 Harley did 4 valves back in the 40s too soooo, welcome to what? if you're going to be a fucktard smart-ass, say something useful like new M8 having low oil pressure cause by faulty oil pumps and bad crank clearance. needing to change cam out due to 3psi oil pressure at idle which is 2 psi below warning level of 5 psi. I could go on but you seem too fucking dimwitted to understand.

      @ ronleon62: How about 100 plus ft-lbs right off idle, being able to pull hard from a stop and able to cruise at 85mph plus on the highway at low rpms. This is what a cruiser is meant to do. HD got it right.

    My tranny is very "clunky" as well. Sounds like two steel plates clanging together unless you shift very deliberately and at the right RPM. Don't mush it into gear on the upshift, do it with some conviction, lol.

      I was in the same boat. Finally pulled the trigger on a 2017 SGS. No regrets. Life is too short.

      + Kristopher Nielsen. Congrats on the new Indian. I was negotiating for a new Springfield at the same time, but the Indian dealership just wouldn't budge on my trade-ins. I was trading in two bikes mind you. They were offering $2,500 less than Harley. Harley worked with me, didn't charge for freight and set-up fees, and actually cut their asking price by $500. Indian wouldn't budge on either of those issues. I agree, both bikes are amazing, a toss up really. But honestly, had Indian matched Harley's offer, or even come close to it, I'd probably be on that Springfield right now, lol. Can't look back now though. You enjoy as well and ride safe.

    Beautiful bike, congrats! Definitely upgrade the headlight check out the 75W LED headlight from ScootLights.com. Regarding the idiot on the cell phone I vote that motorcyclists should be permitted to Sh*^ any automobile driver on a cell phone.

      I'm definitely exploring LED options. The headlight leaves a lot to be desired.

      That would be awesome if they did! I doubt it, but local bikes are white and blue while Georgia State are gray and Tennessee are tan. Thanks for watching!

    You don't want to buy "an overly priced Harley unit." ???

      lol, what it meant to say was a Harley specific unit. I already have the Sena 10C and I don't want to add a hard connection for a wired headset.
