Watching this made me realize how much Filipinos love rice compared to other countries. Most of the dishes presented include some type of bread or pancake. Some are soup or noodles from our Asian neighbors, but no rice. In the Philippines, we eat rice anytime of the day including breakfast! One of the most popular is the "silog" which is a combination of two words: sinangag (fried rice) + itlog (egg). It's eaten with different types of cured and fried meat. Aside from that, we also have breakfast rice porridge: "lugaw" or "arroz caldo" (if you want savory) and "champorado" (if you want sweet). Lastly, we have "kakanin" (rice based sweets) that can also be eaten for breakfast like puto and suman. I hope you can explore Filipino breakfast too, Beryl!
@@nicolle2126 I know she covered champorado, but on the Comfort Food episode not for breakfast. She also made cornsilog and featured spam rice topping with egg but I'd argue those aren't really representative of what a typical silog is. The Albanian dish is so exactly the same as the "milk toast" that I grew up on and eat to this day. As a kid my Mom made the same with sugar and cinnamon in the milk. I use honey now. Ha! When i was young Id eat one slice of bread with something sweet. And couldnt imagine anything else. Being Dutch it was something Dutch like "anijshagel" or "chocovlokken". After travelling Id eat anything in the morning. My friend is still upset about me eating my left over goat meat on La Gomera in the morning. I just dont like any food going to waste. Its odd but my brother doesnt mind, but I hate it, almost like experiencing a war or something. I always smell and taste it, I dont want to throw sometimes out. And also are some food I knew was experied. But dont get sick easily. Right now I usually eat sheep yoghurt with muesli and cruesli and some type of fruit. Because my Bf and his kids eat something similar in the morning. And usually cinnamon (banana or Apple). Otherwise I love to eat something tosti with tomato and ham and mayonaise and herbs. And if we have some time we bake eggs. I love them with tomatoes and ham and onion, champignons and garlic. Orrrr with spek which is meat from porcks and chili sauce
Haha! Saw a video by another youtuber who rated breakfasts around the world, and although he himself lives in the Netherlands, he completely roasted their breakfast. Slice of white bread with some butter and topped with chocolate sprinkles... I would probably like it, but I would be "full" for tops a couple of hours, and the nutritional value is zero.
High protein breakfasts that have 20-35 grams of protein are the most filling and keep you fuller longer. That's why Japanese breakfast is so healthy, it's not the rice, it's that the traditional breakfast has egg, fish and tofu/ natto in it aka high protein. And fermented foods also help maintain a healthy gut along with fiber aka prebiotic.😊
My favorite during rainy mornings is champorado, which is a chocolate rice porridge, drizzled with milk on top for serving. Some add fried salted fish or squid on top.
@@codename495 I don't like salted fish bit I would have eaten it with dried squid had I had them on hand whenever we make the porridge haha. The saltiness cuts through the sweetness, like how people add salt to caramel or Romans add fish sauce to desserts.
Im polish and i've never heard about "maczka" and I dont think that I know anyone who has any idea about that dish. Open sandwiches, scrambled/boiled eggs, ham, cheese and some veggies are definitely more suitable for a polish breakfast.
Beryl, you should definitely try out patishapta. It’s kind of a crepe filled with coconut filling sweetened with jaggery or sugar and mixed with cardamom. Since you loved the Pani Pol Pancakes, I am sure you’ll love that as well.

the albanian one is also very popular in italy, back in the days, as “zuppa di latte” (milk soup). Very popular in the south of italy, with day old sourdough bread instead.
Masabeeb's secret comes from pairing the pancakes with the rich local honey of southern Saudi, sinful, They have another interesting dish called areeka made with dates, ghee bread and some cardamom. I would surely try the Sri Lankan , Indian, Brazilian, Jamaican, Indonesian, Mauritius. I have had the Emirati (I live in Dubai), Egyptian and Swiss. I suggest you try the levant breakfasts, particularly the hummus, shakshouka, gallayeh, Falafel, we also have lots of ready goodies that doesn't require cooking. If you liked the Egyptian fava beans, then I suggest you try the Yemeni glaba - my personal favorite fava beans dish.
The third breakfast gato pima from Mauritius is exactly same as dal kachari made in Bihar state of India. It is made by deep-frying the dal paste mixed with different herbs and spices. In Bihar it is usually served as snacks with green coriander chutney.
Bulgarian popara: stale bread, milk, sugar, and feta, all combined and warmed up. It's basically the Bulgarian take on porridge. It's important that the bread be stale, or else it falls apart too much in the milk.

Mekike! You had me at 'fried bread'. This would be my Dream Breakfast!!
I was with you up to the fish/squid lol
@@codename495 I don't like salted fish bit I would have eaten it with dried squid had I had them on hand whenever we make the porridge haha. The saltiness cuts through the sweetness, like how people add salt to caramel or Romans add fish sauce to desserts.
@@TaLeng2023I’d try it if a friend made it and I couldn’t figure out a kind way to avoid it haha. I’m sure it’s yummy, I’m just not a fish fan.
Im polish and i've never heard about "maczka" and I dont think that I know anyone who has any idea about that dish. Open sandwiches, scrambled/boiled eggs, ham, cheese and some veggies are definitely more suitable for a polish breakfast.
never heard of "maczka" either and I spent plenty of time in poor polish villages in south-eastern poland lol
Same here, I've never heard of it. But hey... you live you learn.
This video made me so happy. ❤❤ really lovely comforting content
Galettes de sarrasin (buckwheat crepes) are originally from france (Bretagne et normandie)....this breakfast is probably an import from Quebec.
Beryl, you should definitely try out patishapta. It’s kind of a crepe filled with coconut filling sweetened with jaggery or sugar and mixed with cardamom. Since you loved the Pani Pol Pancakes, I am sure you’ll love that as well.
In Bulgaria we also do "mekike", we call them "mekitsi". My grandma used to make them, I love topping them with brined white cheese and jam. Just amazing.
Beryl(: Thank You! Must metion know once, how much work and effort are going into these receiptes and meals from all over tja world! (All those doughs ..)🎩❗️ Have a nice weekend (:
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE buckwheat flour. I loathe pancakes, but my dad used to make the BEST buckwheat pancakes ever. They remind me of the Canadian buckwheat crepe. And instead of sausage, we had scrapple. Love you dad, the best breakfast cook ever. 🌃🌃🌃
is buckwehat and buckwehat flour popular and easily avaiable as relatively cheap in Canada? :) is it much more expensive than standrard, wheat flour? :)
You missed Ecuador BOLONES DE VERDE! If you do this again. Which I hope you do because it was a delight! I hope to learn about many more countries... Loved this video!
The albanian reminds me of kindergarden where we would put just Zwieback in milk. Loved it to pieces as a child
try the buckwheat crepes with some butter and a thin layer of molasse ! that's how we usually eat it in Quebec
Make a recipe book of these!
the albanian one is also very popular in italy, back in the days, as “zuppa di latte” (milk soup). Very popular in the south of italy, with day old sourdough bread instead.
Jestem z Polski i u nas na śniadanie w weekend jada się przeważnie jajko na miękko i do tego pieczywo z pomidorami i zieloną cebulką🤤😍😍
That was just so much fun. Got my list of things to try.....
So many fun dishes. The Sri Lanka coconut pancakes looked delicious. I love coconut. Can you sub dark brown sugar for jaggery?
yes
All of these look delicious! I wanna try them all 😊
I should go to sleep, but now I must watch!
I’m watching this while eating breakfast ❤
This channel is truely a celebration of the diversity of our planet :)
Totally!!
The third breakfast gato pima from Mauritius is exactly same as dal kachari made in Bihar state of India. It is made by deep-frying the dal paste mixed with different herbs and spices. In Bihar it is usually served as snacks with green coriander chutney.
i am from sri lanka. we make that recipe a lot back home and it was my late father in laws favourite!
Wow interesting! Most intriguing to me is the gato pima, definitely need to try making that sometime
What about chocolate con churros? Or pantumaca + orange Juice + Coffee? Very popular in spain.
Would love a video with quick n easy High Protein-Low Calorie dishes options ( both vegan and meat-based) from around the world !!
Ackee and saltfish best breakfast ever. Especially paired with a cup of chocolate/milo tea. Mmmmmmmmm. Hungry just thinking about it.
I have a can of ackee. I'd better go buy saltfish!
Bulgarian popara: stale bread, milk, sugar, and feta, all combined and warmed up. It's basically the Bulgarian take on porridge. It's important that the bread be stale, or else it falls apart too much in the milk.
