Hi Tom .... just a little rhyme to remember ... "if there is slag, then drag". Push the MIG torch into the weld puddle ... drag the electrode away from weld puddle when stick welding.

I own this welder, and I really love it. Some of the "Cheaper" ones are junk. I had one. But this welder welds like the Miller I used professionally.

So far, I have had good luck with the Vevor products I have. Not the best by a long way, but good enough. I have read that if you want to return something, there will be issues. As for flux core vs shielding gas...Flux core works better if wind is a factor.

Thanks for sharing :) I can only speak for their mini metal lathe as that was the only other product I have tried. They seem to offer really good value products to the home owner when compared to shops or Amazon which offer the same product but at a much higher price.

As an expert welder, one who have never touched or even seen a welder in close proximity but the RUclips pro welders videos, I say, there are a lot of sputter (the small beads) and the important part is to hold it steady, keep the same pace and ... ok, I see myself out. Jokes aside, cool video, thank you!

  • @Canuck014

Flux core is very bad for spatter and is difficult to keep from getting on your material, the spatter spray might make it easier to remove the spatter after welding. Using a hardened scraper can help with removal, if you have access to someone who works in a sawmill maybe they can get you old chipper blades, these make good slag scrappers. If someday you can afford to get shielding gas, you will be much happier.
    Hope this helps.

That looks quite impressive with all the adjustments available and the different types of welds you can do. I have a small CIG gasless mig and it's amazing how thin the metal can be that you can weld. I ran out of the wire that came with it and got some of the Boss brand from Bunnies and I don't think it is working as well, so I just got a roll of the CIG stuff today to see if it works better. Does that one use shielding gas too as I thought you showed a connection for it? A very handy addition will be a self darkening shield down the track.

It seems to be a good unit for a homeowner wanting to do projects around the workshop for sure! Let me know how you go with cig wire, I’ll need some new stuff soon.
What size wire are you using that allows you to weld so thin?
      Thanks for sharing!

@@VintageEngineRepairs I was using 0.8mm wire and the metal was only about 1mm thick. Mind you I was only repairing cracks, not continuous welding.

Looks darn good for your first time. Buy a mask that has a larger screen and auto darkening, make things so much easier. We bought a stick welder from Aldi or Lidl, less than £60. It actually does a decent job
