  • Authorities say an apparent theft incident escalated into a high-speed chase with three suspects that resulted in collisions and gunfire on August 1 in Oklahoma. The Sand Springs Police Department said the chase began when officers responded to a theft call at a Tractor supply store and the suspects allegedly fled. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol engaged when the chase continued onto a state highway. Pursuing officers performed a tactical vehicle intervention causing the suspect's vehicle to spin out. An officer fired a shot at the suspect's vehicle when the driver allegedly crashed into another officer's vehicle in an attempt to get away. Police say the suspects managed to escape and later hid in the woods after abandoning their vehicle. Authorities say the three suspects were later arrested after being identified by local reporters.

Absolutely crazy to see this reaching national coverage. That's my mother's Tahoe, stolen from our driveway overnight on 7/29 in Southern Oklahoma. The thieves also stole upwards of $3k worth of things from our neighbors, as well as used the cards and checks my mom left in the vehicle. Cherry on top? The three that were arrested that were in the vehicle aren't the same ones that stole it. They ditched another stolen vehicle around the corner of our property the night they stole this Tahoe. Judging by transactions, they took it to Lawton, made purchases with the cards, even cashed a $900 check, and then either sold it or handed it off to the criminals you see here. Stephens County claims to have one name they are investigating for the local theives and there are now more and more often 2 suspicious vehicles in our area. We are all on edge. We live rural, and in over 30 years have never had any issues with theft. It's like a life-long sense of security destroyed in one night.

Such as which road changes, speeds etc. With all of the advancements in technologies there’s no reason an officer should have to multitask certain things while attempting to remain safe driving. GPS and tracking tells the dispatch everything they need to know.

Earlier in the police pursuit the suspect cross over the line and went head-on with traffic on a back-road. The officer said if he does that on the interstate they will terminate the pursuit. They performed a pit maneuver and spun him out and guess what happened the driver drove the opposite way on the freeway. So they terminated the pursuit just like you said he would.

When criminals drive the wrong way on a highway trying to escape police they are obviously putting innocent people at risk of death of a head on crash, it's my opinion that's when law enforcement should use deadly force, or even when the criminals ram police cars trying to get away.
And, when they are caught it should be a straight 20 year sentence without bail or parole. Many of these criminals are repeat offenders and they keep putting innocent people in danger until they get caught. We have to have tougher sentences to curb innocent people getting hurt and killed.

One thing I would love to hear a reasoning to because I feel like I never see it happen and it often results in the criminal driving off like we seen here. Why do officers not box people in. I feel like at exactly 22:00 right after the PIT. The officer we are watching could park his car right on the front right corner of the vehicle. Obviously we see the second officer try and fail, but if both vehicles were trying to prevent the car from moving forward I would imagine they could stop it. Also obviously here we are working with a large enough vehicle that can move another much easier, but smaller sedans would struggle to do just push a larger vehicle out the way from a standstill, but still don't see it used in these situations where suspect is either likely to run or is actively running.

the cop didn't block him in after the pit, then he doesn't shoot to stop the threat, and he gets other officers to stop pursuing. Fire that guy

You mean he realized there were two others in the vehicle that were closer to his gun than the driver was and stopped shooting? Maybe he realized he wasn't on the right side to hit the driver at all?
Then they busted them all using the helicopter that was overhead?
High speed pursuits the wrong way on the interstate are a bad idea.

That is actually very incorrect. A lot of people do get away, but they won't report on that very openly because it would encourage people to run. I mean, in this case though they were doomed to get caught. Middle of the day, in an SUV, in open country... Not much more to say.

I get scared every time I go outside that I'll get shot by officers just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or I could be attacked by a criminal and the cops would come and arrest me for defending myself, or shoot me. Look at how they handled what happened in Uvalde. Parents were rushing in there trying to save their kids while the clowns stood around laughing, arresting anyone who tried to go in and save those kids.

Great job officers, but... you have got to get better at pinning in perp's vehicles. I see this in so many videos. In this one the two cars could have pinned him against the guardrail. One in front, the other on the side. Also, a good ramming on a steer tire could make it impossible to drive.
