- DISCLAIMER: The pattern that this video referenced is a $3 pattern. I’m sorry if I don’t mention it in the video. So I am mentioning it here. This easy to knit baby jacket has a cute border that looks like little stars. NOTE: I have made a 3 part video showing an actual jacket being made, start to finish. This video is a reference guide to knit any raglan style sweater. It is not done with exact stitch counts or rows. That info is in the pattern. There is also a bootie, cap and mitten pattern that is in it. The pattern is available at:www.ravelry.co... It is knitted on a 24" circular needle size 6 with a DK weight yarn.
I’m unable to respond to the question “what does PM mean” on your response. So I will put it under general comments. PM means to Place a Marker before next stitch. It helps you to know where the next “inc” increase is. Hope this helps.

Same here. I would rather knit in the round. But, baby sleeves are not easy to do in the round. I don’t mind sewing a 6” seam. Much easier

You repeat the rows in succession. 1 thru 4. Rows 1 and 3 on done on the front side of the sweater and 2 and 4 on the back side (Purl side) but these 2 rows are knitted even though it is on the purl side. Let me know if this helps

Ok have a question now. I'm working on the sleeves of the Star Stitch raglan baby sweater. It says to work in stockinet stitch, at the same time decrease 1 stitch each side every 10 rows. What kind of decrease am I suppose to be doing. It's going well and I don't want to make a mistake Thanks
I do one of two ways.
#1 way K1, SSK, Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1.
#2 way, K2tog, Knit to last 2 sts, K2tog.
I prefer the first way because it gives me a single stitch on both sides of sleeves
when I sew it together. I think it’s a nicer finish.
But both ways work just fine.

I have been knitting for two years - bought this pattern and found it very difficult to follow. Could not follow how to separate the sleeve and did not understand if sleeve should increase at beginning of each row. So confusing. #sigh
You can separate the sleeves with stitch holders from the front and back of jacket.
the increases are done at the beginning of the first two rows of the sleeves

Hi, I've just brought this lovely pattern, I'm wondering if it is size 6mm needles ( these seemed large for a baby cardigan) or if it's size 6- which is size 4mm needles?

Yes a size 6 US needles is the same size as a 4mm needle

I love this sweater, but I don't have circular kneedles , can I knit without circular kneedles?
Working on straight needles will be a challenge. The total amount of stitches at its fullest point is between 155 for new born and 211 for 1 year.
There are needles out there that have a long nylon tail with a button on the end. They are between 16” and 24”. If you can find them. That would give you the extra length you would need to be able to put all the stitches on a straight needle.

I was wondering what side does the raglan increase go on when you divide to do the sleeves. Body or the sleeve? I’m not sure what to do. Thank you
The increase goes on both sides of maker. So you have a total of 8 increases on each knit row of the yoke

You are correct. I showed the demo using only two to save time. Video is quite lengthy. So was trying to save time. When you make the jacket, you will use four markers
hi what sizes does this pattern have? i’m aiming to make my nephew a cardigan for christmas but he’s big for his age and wanted something around a year/12months! also what size needle in mm/uk does it call for? i’m hoping to get the pattern when i can!
It comes in new born, 3-6 month, 6-9 month and 9-12 months.
I use DK weight yarn (Dreambaby by Plymouth) is my favorite. I use a size 6 needle. To make it bigger, you can go up to a 7. But, remember a larger needle makes the stitches looser. Or you can use a light worsted weight yarn with a 7 needle to make the 12 months size bigger. NOTE: before making the entire jacket, I would to a swatch to see how knitted stitch works out in gauge.

Why increase 3 stitches in the shoulder????
They 3 stitches that are cast on after the yoke is done is to allow ease under the are. That’s why you cast on 3 at beginning of The sleeve’s first row and 3 at the end of the first row. It’s explained how they are used when you start knitting the body.

I’m sorry I did not see your note. Yes you start with the neck . I put the star stitch pattern on top so it would be easier to find as you go through the pattern and it says to work the star stitch.

You can add stitches to neck to enlarge it. In repeats of 6. That will add approx an 1” to the width. Then adjust the amount of stitches as you increase for the Yoke.

I'm sure it can, you would have to adjust the stitch count on the front because the button bands would not be needed.
It is designed as a cardigan. T would take some thinking, but you could make in the round after you were past the Yoke. Otherwise you would not be able to get it over the head

Too fast! And what is "slip one as if to knit" vs. "slip one as if to purl"? You went very fast in the beginning. Cute sweater and thank you.
To slip one as if to knit means to insert your needle in the next stitch like you would to knit the stitch. But instead of wrapping the yarn around the needle, you simply slip the stitch off the left needle with the right needle. And to slip one as if to purl means to slip the right needle into the first stitch on left needle like you would tonpurl the stitch, as with the other stitch you don’t wrap yarn around the needle, just slip stitch off left needle with right needle and that stitch is finished

That's a very unkind thing to say. This lady has spent a lot of time writing out this baby sweater pattern AND making 2 helpful videos with tips on how to construct the sweater. If you don't want to spend $ for her work there are plenty of free patterns out there. Don't characterize her for charging a measly $3.
