- Albertville, FRANCE - 1992 Winter Games, Figure Skating, Men's Original Program - Kurt Browning of Canada placed 4th after a surprising fall on the jump combination.
Kurt may never have won an Olympic medal but he is undoubtedly one of the best. A true gentleman.
I remember watching this performance live (or as 'live' as it could be with the time delay) back in '92. Wasn't a fan of the program/music/costume at the time and though I can appreciate the artistry now... it's still not a favorite. Great skater, though, always one of my favorites. He handled himself so well with the post-performance interviewers.
No one skated well at this Olympics except Paul Wylie.
Paul was robbed. Should have been Olympic champ.
Intelligent insightful comments from Christopher Bowman RIP
Yes I was thinking the same thing! I miss Bowman the Show man! He was super talented but just couldn’t deal with nerves….
I'm not Canadian, but we love kurt too. USA.
no way 4th place after this performance. should have been much lower in the rankings. no way 5.4 for technical. too high.
Some of the *worst* judging here. Wow. 0.5 off for the Axel. 0.2 off for the Lutz. They're supposed to be "mandatory deductions". Four judges giving this a 6.1 base value? Three starting it at 6.0 by giving a 5.3. You just can't do that... not with that wobbly flying sit and the fact this is not some program that sets big standards.
Exactly. I know women don’t have the same requirements but Harding practically skated the same elements as him but was scored less.
Extremely generous marks, especially for presentation.
those are to high technically
Finnish and Russian judges only separated Browning and Wylie by .1 in the Technical marks and Browning fell on his axel (with no toe) and 2 footed his lutz. I guess this happens when one skater is a 3 time WC and another is inconsistent. Browning was scored much higher than Bowman and Bowman didn't fall and did a clean 3 flip.
Like Scott said, lack of big name competition and (very) charitable scoring by the judges.
How did he finish ahead of Urmanov after the Original Program with THAT performance?
Or Elvis?
@@shimmeringfairydust3275 true, too.
He should have been deducted a full point at the outset for that costume.
Agree
It’s probably the worst costume I have ever seen
Kurt actually wasn't that far from medal contention after the short, had he skated a good free skate he probably would've gotten bronze or silver
The costume just looked terrible and what the hell is the music???
The “music” is so harsh and grating what was he thinking?
I like this program! A shame Kurt fell on the jump combination! Anyway he's a great skater
what is this music?
A firefly
Great program, terrible costume.
