It's weird, mens' figure skating is probably Canada's strongest discipline, we've had so many world champions: Donald Jackson, Brian Orser, Kurt Browning, Elvis Stojko, Jeffrey Buttle and now Patrick Chan. Yet, no Canadian man has ever won gold in figure skating. I think Kurt is our best ever, he was creative, artistic and athletic.
I am an American. If someone told me to name male figure skaters. I would say Kurt Browning and Scott Hamilton . Kurt is very graceful, and his foot work looks amazing, but I don't know much about skating. In reading comments see he never won Olympic medal. He may have never won medal but he is remembered. There arr people who have medals and that doesn't make them better, just better during that competition.
No one can touch Kurt Browning on the ice. Yes, it's unfortunate he didn't medal at these Olympics but he had nothing to prove. He IS the complete package with athleticism and artistry. A legend in figure skating and a national treasure.
Maybe he never won an Olympic medal, but still among the greats. Four world titles, first to do a quad, and he was endlessly creative and versatile. Even as a pro. My favourite of all time. His skating would do well in any system.
You can keep the quads and triple axels. There’s no skater out there today that I’d rather watch than Kurt Browning. His artistry is superb; his skating is a feast for the eyes.
One of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of figure skates. I have always loved this program and this skate the more than any other in his amazing career. Kurt has it all here. Technique, artistry, musicality, personality and the best costume, ever. Here's looking at you, Kurt. Thanks so much for posting this.
Sandra Bezic choreagraphed this as well as Brian Boitano's 1988 Olympic gold medal winning long program. I believe she's done many other Olympic winning programs as well. I enjoy listening to her comment on figure skating performances, she's always got something interesting and insightful to say.
If only he'd had the triple flip in the SP... he probably wouldn't have botched the double axel at the end of the program and we'd have Kurt Browning 4 time world champion 1994 Olympic Champion. the judges wanted to give it to him, he just couldn't give them the opportunity. still the greatest skater certainly of his generation, and one of the best ever. he is legendary.
Hey gene Kelly, its tab, your number one fan and favorite fan, I just wanted to wish you a very blessed joyous, warm Christmas. May it be filled with hope peace and courage Hugs to you Kurt, remember what I said about getting back on the ice, you still have more god has given you the gift of making people laugh and smile even in the midst of dark times, god used you like medicine to make people feel better that's the greatest callings, gift and honor given you by god
He's a skaters skater too - which is by far the biggest compliment a skater can have. I believe even today skaters look at him as an example of what to strive for -- especially his crazy footwork and musicality.
He and Scott Hamilton could perform into middle age because their artistry made their skating absolutely compelling even without the big strength moves. And they both benefited from being freed of the constraints of amateur competition
I met Kurt Browning and his girlfriend back in 1993 when we were flying from Ontario to Alberta. He was super cool. We hand wrote letters back and forth with me and my sister a handful of times. This was before secretaries responded for famous people. Kurt hung out with us and it was amazing how humble he was and how common he seemed. So nice and down to Earth. A huge inspiration to my younger self. A legendary man.
There will never , ever be another Kurt Browning. His tenacity on the ice is one of a kind. He moves along the ice like silk. Effortlessly smooth , as an eagle flying with such confidence. Whatever you are doing now , God bless you for giving us such beauty on ice. 🙏
browning still is a master, to merge Stoyko with Kurt would lessen Kurt. The best, bar none, footwork, first quad, imagination, humor, versatility second to none. He took to the air without warning, while others, you could see their jumps coming from miles away. Gracious, and deserving. what a guy!!!
exactly other telescoped their jumps, he just had so much athletically and such characters, no one could do the vast amount of different facets of skating.
yes, he isn't a olympic champion, but he is the Great. And i remember that those time he had bad result in short porgramm, but this FP was the best in the same time. I mean the best with the result.
An amazing skater! I love how he feels his music and program, like his whole body is silently shouting its passion at me. His jumps that almost come out of nowhere. And of course, his charm!
A pleasure to watch - telling a story on ice - the story of the music. Wish there were more skaters like Kurt. Pure joy. Yes, I wish he could be more consistent on the jumps, but his artistry is a thrill and joy to behold. Sigh.
Oh, I remember watching this program as it aired and being just wowed by it. And here we are 24 years later, and I don't think anyone's tried to do Casablanca since. Kurt definitely has something unique.
SGN gmail actually there's some skaters such as Nam Nguyen and Boyang Jin who used the soundtrack, but honestly theirs were more on the comedy side than the charming side
I never tire of watching Kurt - the Maestro - perform this program. It's my favorite competitive program of all time of any skater. Kurt's skating speaks volumes. I even forget while watching that he did not make it to the podium. No matter, no one could top this. Kurt you are the best!
Despite the mistakes, this is probably my favorite FS I've ever laid eyes on. That 3A at the beginning was HUGE, and I felt like I was actually watching the movie just watching him skate.
I think it was the pressure, too. Think about it, he was the world champion both times and the dominant male skater of his era. So I'm sure he was labelled a shoo in for the medal. He was human, that pressure must seem overwhelming. Very unfortunate, he is IMO one of the greatest ever, even w/o an Olympic gold medal. There's only one Kurt Browning.
Look at the way he uses his whole body, footwork, arms spread in graceful way, not flinging around like modern skaters who basically do nothing but jump. This is art. Modern day skating is just "look how much I can jump!"
A real class act...perfect interpretation. Thx For your majestic performance to the full effect of the orchestrations mixture of tempos and saturated in quality!❤❤
I agree. The most elegant performer. His musicality and style are second to none. The was the best olympic performance of anyone I've ever seen. He has a heart of gold and he's still a cutie :)
Everytime I watch this, I wonder what could've been if he could only land jumps consistently in the olympics. He killed everyone in performance and presentation, but the jumping always prevented him from winning olympic gold. ;(
This might be my favorite Browning program of all, & that's saying a LOT. After watching some of the men at the recent Olympics, I felt so unsatisfied, due to the cookie-cutter, format nature brought on by the current scoring. There are flashes of something more here & there, & there's John Weir, who does still seem to have his mind on more than scores, but mostly--blah. Remembering the thrilling imagination & creativity from some years ago, came looking here & reconnected w. Kurt--Wow! Bravo
With such a terrific performance, Kurt really should have had much better (yes, theatrical) lighting. This incredibly talented master of the ice should have been showcased in a wide spotlight, with dramatic blue lighting in this big room. In the future, someone will be able to take this footage and make the necessary corrections. Kurt Browning deserves the absolute best for his talent, intelligence and hard work.
Browning was a master performer, but its ashame that he was never able to land jumps consistently during the olympics. =/ If he did, he would've won a medal or two and likely a gold somewhere. His artistry was just amazing, but whether it was his nerves or whatever it was, he couldn't skate clean at the olympics. If only Canada could find a way to somehow merge Browning's artistry with Stojko's consistent jumping abilities into one person, you would have the ultimate figure skater. =)
Unfortunately, he was way down in 12th after the short, so it was impossible to medal. Had he skated like this in the short program, I'm sure he would have medalled, maybe even won, but he always had bad luck at the Olympics
are you being sarcastic. the whole point of that performance was to stick it to the man. he landed everything else perfectly and did everything else perfectly in the months leading up to it to make a point. his point was that you can't let the terrorists win. he'll never tell you but ppl in the sport are quasi-aware of what went down.
Yes. And they’re still here yet today. I just went in stars on ice. They’re amazing! I totally agree with you
That’s interesting so many names, all extraordinaire.
I think he is the best skater Canada will ever have
I am an American. If someone told me to name male figure skaters. I would say Kurt Browning and Scott Hamilton . Me too!

Maybe he never won an Olympic medal, but still among the greats. Four world titles, first to do a quad, and he was endlessly creative and versatile. Even as a pro. My favourite of all time. His skating would do well in any system.
He also won world professional skater 3 times!!
Artistically, he is still the best as far as I'm concerned. His Gala performances solidify this.
The best of the best. Love Kurt Browning!!!
You can keep the quads and triple axels. There’s no skater out there today that I’d rather watch than Kurt Browning. His artistry is superb; his skating is a feast for the eyes.
Man and dang kurt you look so dashing and so handsome in that white tux.
Who watching in 2018? his skills are on point.
right?!? i first became aware of him as a kid in 1992, and i remember watching him in awe. 25 years later and his routines still impress!
Me I am :)

Yes, the greatest, in my opinion. The total skating package.
Amen to that! He doesn't need an Olympic medal to be great.
He moves on the ice like no other top male skater. He is masculine grace personified.
Best men's figure skater of ALL TIME!!
Thank you Kurt, for a lifetime of excellence and inspiration!
All time ? 🧐 maybe from that era, I prefer Elvis style.
Hey gene Kelly, its tab, your number one fan and favorite fan, I just wanted to wish you a very blessed joyous, warm Christmas. May it be filled with hope peace and courage

A huge inspiration to my younger self. A legendary man.
More than 16 years later, I have yet to see another program constructed so brilliantly. And with the current scoring system in place, it won't happen.
There will never , ever be another Kurt Browning. His tenacity on the ice is one of a kind. He moves along the ice like silk. Effortlessly smooth , as an eagle flying with such confidence. Whatever you are doing now , God bless you for giving us such beauty on ice. 🙏
Just seen Him Lve tonight he can still Jump Great, excellent footwork and awsome entertainer
Best of all the men skaters EVER. Kurt was the whole package; I miss him!

exactly other telescoped their jumps, he just had so much athletically and such characters, no one could do the vast amount of different facets of skating.
I cherish this year Canada had two of the best figure skaters in the world then and nationals was like watching the worlds.
Kurt..always the crowd-pleaser, always exciting!
One of my favourite skaters of all time! Too bad he had a bad short program... he would've won a medal for sure with this program.
Brilliant program. Brilliant Skater.
yes, he isn't a olympic champion, but he is the Great. And i remember that those time he had bad result in short porgramm, but this FP was the best in the same time. I mean the best with the result.
highest quality skating ive ever seen.......HANDS DOWN. no exaggeration
I could watch this for hours and never get bored of watching him he is the best figure skate i have ever seen
He did this program again a few years later, when his back was a bit better….it was excellent
An amazing skater! I love how he feels his music and program, like his whole body is silently shouting its passion at me. His jumps that almost come out of nowhere. And of course, his charm!
The greatest ever! Even in 2017, I am thrilled watching this magnificent performance. Kurt , you are ever the Champ!

He always put on a great act, amaaaazing abilities. You just don't often see the feeling like you used to in skating programs now.
Look at the way he uses his whole body, footwork, arms spread in graceful way, not flinging around like modern skaters who basically do nothing but jump. This is art. Modern day skating is just "look how much I can jump!"

Kurt is amazing!
Beautiful dancer/skater❣️
I agree. The most elegant performer. His musicality and style are second to none. The was the best olympic performance of anyone I've ever seen. He has a heart of gold and he's still a cutie :)
Amazing! It's so much more effective without the commentary!
Best always will be I think 😊
Fantastic!
He has some of the most magical feet in figure skating!
his footwork is amazing
truer words have never been spoken!
truely amazing!!!! he lifts and lands so gracefully, and you can tell he has pashion for what hes doing!
I love it!!! Screw medals.
Kurt retired ~. Will always adore this moving skate.
Wow. Awesome program.
Too bad about the short program, he really was the best skater never to win at the big O.
The passion with which this man skates is immeasurable
Nothing short of amazing!! That triple flip to the music!!
Fabulous!!!!
Wow. Stunning
Kurt, I love this one so much!
2018 olympics brought me here 😍😍😍😍😍
Everytime I watch this, I wonder what could've been if he could only land jumps consistently in the olympics. He killed everyone in performance and presentation, but the jumping always prevented him from winning olympic gold. ;(
2022 ❤️
Always love to watch him skate!
Great program and brilliant performance ! 🌹
I dont even like figure skating but I like watching this guy

One more thing you forgot the champagne, roses, and white cloves
Love you Kurt!❤

Oh yes. Perfecto !!
Perfection
Unfortunately, he was way down in 12th after the short, so it was impossible to medal. Had he skated like this in the short program, I'm sure he would have medalled, maybe even won, but he always had bad luck at the Olympics

He's the Fred Astaire of figure skating. Now it's all jumps. I guess it makes scoring more objective, but I don't enjoy watching it anymore.
@JDubs878 Patrick Chan hopefully?
A TERRIBLE ICESKATER !!!!!
Great
