Whats your sprue cutter of choice? or do you use a blade? Let me know in the comments :) For more Tool Reviews click here ruclips.net/p/PLc2bfNWiJAEkVbx6BujoLN5cggGWCqOAF
I am not quite looking for one for models but for 3D printing...well printing models🤣...I've gone through one pair and they were awful and didn't last very long😕...looking for something that'll last longer
A word of criticism if I may? You actually used both Italeri and Hornby cutters oriented wrong. To be precise, you used flush side of the cutter on the off-cut side of sprue, that's why they "shaved" it. Hornbys cutters are, just like you said, a regular wire cutters with beveled blade edges and they are not a good choice, but I believe that Italeri's are maybe not that bad for general use. To be honest, I have never used them, but there shouldn't be much difference compared to Plato for example..... Other than that, nice video 😉
Naming conventions are a pain in the proverbial. I'm disabled and used a wheelchair all my life, 53 years so far :) To stop the chair I use brakes - they /brake/ the chair, so it's not exactly rocket science that they have been called /brakes/. Now some, in my opinion, know-nothing eejit has decided they are called 'wheel locks' and they are only to be used to hold the chair when it's already stationary. Quite //how// you're supposed to stop the wheelchair is ignored probably because they don't know. In short, with naming things use what you always have :) The vast majority of people will know what you mean. [BTW I have recently heard sprues called 'frames'; if say two big sections are together each half of the 'frame' might be called a sprue.]
In the words of the immortal Winston Churchill: "Never in the history of mankind has so much been said about so little." I bought a cheap-ass sprue cutter 20 years ago and they're still working like brand new. It doesn't matter what you buy, buy cheap.
WRT pricing I think the life-span of the tool needs to be considered. For example if a pair of cutters is five times more expensive but will last /ten/ times longer then it's worth the extra cost as you'll save over time.
I bought the Pixnor tweezers based on your recent review and absolutely love them. I just bought two new sprue cutters a couple of weeks ago. I bought the Xuron Prof(love them).and Tamiya TAM74093 which haven’t arrived yet. Love your review videos. Keep up the great work.
Those tweezers are a must.. for the price they are a great addition to anyones model tooling.. Xuron is another make ive not heard of before.. ill have a look at them too.. Thanks for commenting
A really interesting comparison video and it's also good so share why it is that sprue cutters are better than a hobby knife. I use the Pro teck cutters from Dave Coley too as I recieved them as a free gift with a kit. They are pretty good.
Hiya. Yes Dave coley cutters are great and the tamiya style copy ones are just as good too from him. Feel free to share this video. I hope it’s a good start for modellers to see how safer they are and what’s available
@@MOS6510Models cheers, I might do just that. I remember using a cheap hobby knife to cut parts from an Airfix Starter set and I'm surprised I didn't hurt myself! 😂
I have been using the so called God Hand cutter it cut better then other cutters but its bloody expensive. So using normal cutter and sanding will cost you less a lot less.
Iv always been to nervous to cut flush in case the cut can tear into the piece I want. I cut just above it then just finish it off with blade or file depending. That tweezer trick is good for sure, thanks for sharing that. Ya for wire I dont want to use my snips I keep em for soft plastic lol Use old shitty plyers with wire cutter near handle then sand flat if need be. Thanks for sharing.
I use olfa ak-4 it's excellent but I could definitely use a super sharp sprue cutter, say if I were to pick the best sprue cutter there is which one should I pick?
@@MOS6510Models they are easy to break but are supposed to be some of the best sprue cutters you can buy. Not sure if I would spend that much for nippers though, even if they are very very good.
The citadel are 21 quid on games workshop website plus 3.00 for postage.. like I said at the time that was the going rate.. And the italeri ones was a hoodwink lol

Fantastic guide!! I never knew that the type of cutter could have one or two cutting surfaces!! Brilliant really
Glad it was helpful!

Just watched this again and never knew about twin edged cutters and single edge cutters!! Learn something everyday!!
Hope it helps in deciding your next cutters

Happy to be here to catch another video. Good to see you keeping at it. Keep up the good work. I know you will! 😉
Thanks! You too!
Lots of great info, thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching!
It's always fun to see comparisions like that, it's only plastic, even cutters for 5 GBP are great for this hobby.
yep i agree.. i dont think you can go wrong with any cutter.. you will always find yourself grabbig some sand paper to finish it off
I thought the same but here I am looking for new ones after my cheap ones became misaligned.

MOS6510 Models Update. I by far...BY FAR like the Xurons over the Tamiya cutters. Try them out when you get some time or your next review.
DarkSouljah I’ll invest in a pair and let you know

Maybe try some heat shrink tubing over the handles of the citadel cutters for grip
Yes that did cross my mind.. but its still a big reach to feel comfortable in my hand. Thanks for commenting
Really helpful video. I was wondering though are the Plato ones single or twin edged? Sorry if this was mentioned on the video
They are single edged my friend.. I think the Citadel ones are the only twin edged ones in the video
@@MOS6510Models thank you very much for the quick reply. Going to give these a try for my next kit
Check out the dave coley ones.. Just like tamiya but half the price :)

Yes i can see you point, they higher end cutters i use dont make me nervous unlike the cheap ones
I never knew that about the twin edge or single edge cutters!! All these years and I thought they just cut.. but not just on one side!!
yes.. learning every day lol
You should try the DSPIAE ST-A single blade nippers they would blow the rest out of the water
i've never seen them but will have a look :) thanks for commenting
I used a product called plast-dip on the handles of my Citadel cutters. Gives a rubberized coating to them.
did you find them slippy too...?
@@MOS6510Models Yes, the rubber handles help tho. Have you seen the Mr Hobby Mr Nippers? They are like straight nail clipper, and work great.

tamiya was excellent.. imho :)
Is the plato nipper a good one?
yes it is.. it was my daily driver for a while
@@MOS6510Models ok thank you
GW and Tamiya are pricey, but not as bad as the Godhand (also from Japan). GW is $30 US roughly while the Godhand is $50.

Citadel one is like designed by a frigging gangster for gang fights

you got robbed by whoever sold you the italeri and citadel cutters
