Don't apologise for mentioning your Nana. It's good to hear the stories. Also good to know the receipts are good old fashioned family receipies. It all adds the the charm, and authenticity. It makes your channel stand out. It's a good thing. 💜💜💜
I wish that I had more time with mine. Grandma Beals left us before I became an adult. Grandma Flack lived to a decent old age, but I didn't get to see either of them much, as my parents moved 500 miles away for work when my father started his career after college. I never got to meet Grandpa Beals - he died when I was still in the womb - and my other grandfather died when I was but a young boy, prior to my entering kindergarten.
Great recipe, thank you, Makes me want to watch "When the Boat Comes In" again. It's good to see traditional recipes handed down with the stories that go with them. Cheers, from Australia.
Watching you make this was making my mouth water and then you go and put an egg on it and………BOOOM!!! My head and my tummy were screaming YES PLEASE 😋😋 it looks delicious. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe with us. 🥰
Never apologise for sharing your memories of your nanna Amanda. I lost my beloved nanna in 89 and I still miss her. All my cooking skills are down to her and my dad. She brought me up and I have such happy memories. I absolutely was so jealous of you taste testing tonight. We have a similar thing here in Ireland that we make with mashed potato but these look delicious and definitely going to try them. Thank you so much for sharing and keep your childhood memories coming as I love hearing about them ❤
I love hearing about ur nan! I can't wait to make these yummy little jewels, omg! Please stop apologizing for memories or anything else u tlk about bc its wonderful to hear u speak while cooking! It's a part of why I can't stop binge watching ur channel since I found it a couple dsys ago! I love reading the stories behind recipes in cook books. I love getting settled in for the night and watching ur channel, it's my new fav thing, lol! (I watch u in the day-time too, of course, lol)
I’d never heard of Floddies before today, I originate from West Yorkshire, but I’ll definitely be making these 👌 Love when you mention your nanna, my great nanna and then her daughter my Nan both brought me up and I love cooking the meals I was brought up on. 😘😘 love your channel ❤
Love hash browns but those look absolutely fantastic as I love crispy bacon they will be added to my recipes thanks for your time to upload this video.
Looks like the rostis I make, but without the bacon. The bacon looks a fab addition especially when cooked first like you did. I'll have to get cooking them againn, yum.
Hello Once again another simple and devious recipe. This is definitely on my menu for Sunday breakfast. I just love the names of your recipes and the history behind the recipes.Living in Australia i just love your commentry. Also love your husbands chanel as well. I have learnt so much from both of you. Excellent. Keep the recipes coming. Keep well. Debbie - Aussie land. Thank you once again.
They looked and sounded really tasty, super crunchy, and I agree with you about flabby bacon. Then when you dipped it in the egg yolk, well, that just took it to a different level altogether. Gotta make these Mandy!
Yummy. I've never heard them called Floddies. My Nana just called them griddled fritters .The only difference in the recipe was that she used green onions in hers. You are right. The egg yolk makes them extra yummy.
My Nana was a great cook as well, fed the clan at her house every Sunday when I was a bairn, stotties, mince pie, scones and all that, and she always saved me a stottie to take home. I'm a great gran meself now but I still miss me Nana. I never heard of floddies but they look absolutely delicious, definitely another recipe for me to have a go at. Thanks for sharing. 🤗
Potato pancakes! That is what my mom called them. She made them just like yours but without the bacon. We ate them with sour cream for dinner. My mom is from Eastern Europe. These are so delicious. I love the idea of adding crisped bacon and serving with an egg. Oh man, now I want to make some. Thanks Dinner Lady
Hey lovely, nice wee switch up on a breakfast recipe. Will definitely try these. Lovely to hear your wee family stories too. Never stop being yourself on here! Your natural self is what makes people subscribe, I’ve no doubt. Love that your channel is thriving hun. Haha hope the cat wasn’t too annoyed about waiting for her dinner! 😂xx
What a great recipe, and a wonderful way to keep your Nanna's memory alive! ❤ Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I'll always remember this video, when I make it.
Wow, these look amazing and something new to me. I love how you remember your Nana with such fondness and that makes this video even more endearing. Thank you for sharing this recipe and your wonderful memories. I'm definitely going to be trying this.
Never heard of these, I had a Geordie Grandma, but I myself was born in Sth Yorkshire. I will definitely be making them for my grandchildren when I go to visit. I think they will be scoffed down quick smart. Thank you to whoever asked you to make them. 😊👍
You bring back memories to an old man who was moved from County Durham to the South when 9 years old .......My wife has now got an new meal to knock up. Thank you
They looked delicious Mand. Never heard of floddies, but they seriously do look so tasty, another recipe i will be trying. You have lovely memories of your nana, which is so nice to hear. She sounded like a real hard-working, home loving lady - salt of the earth - the family came first ❤️
Iv never heard of these mand but I will certainly be trying them my hubby would love them he doesn’t like slap you round the face bacon either lol , love hearing your stories about your nanna and family I know mine was a very special lady thank you , Amanda xx
Don't be sorry for mentioning your Nan. She was obviously a huge part of your life, so it's good to cherish the memories. Again... this is something that I've never heard of but those bacon floddies look amazing, Mands. It is a very simple but easy dish to make. Thank you for another great video and I will be attempting this, for sure! xx
I agree, don't apologise for mentioning your Nanna, I was very close to my Nanna and her recipes were amazing ❤ These look absolutely amazing and I can't wait to try them. Thank you for sharing this with us 😊
I’ve got some bacon and onions in already. I might grab a couple of potatoes tomorrow and actually make these up, they look really nice! I’ve never heard of floddies before.
Oh they look lovely sooo gonna try these never heard of these before but will be trying them out this weekend ! Nice to see u actually reviewing ur own food for a but i didnt actually think u ate anything lol love your cooking
I am not the biggest fan of pancakes at supper time, so for Shrove Tuesday, I always make potato pancakes, or latkes, which are very similar, without the bacon. Watching your videos got me onto white pepper. Hadn't had it since I was a child at my Nanny's and I've really enjoyed using it. Food has so much emotion, comfort and nostalgia attached. Thanks 💜
They look delicious and moorish especially with the crispy bacon in them. I’m from the north east but I’ve never heard of a floddie, I’ve had something similar, served with bacon and egg which we just called potato cakes 🫶
No Mand it’s more than a hash brown it’s a special home made Floddie which looks delicious and I will certainly be making them, thank you again for another great recipe
Amazing as usual, nice to talk to you last night on Martine's Chanel Please keep doing these recipes they are so yummy and remind me so much of my childhood. keep well the two of you Maggie
I love hearing your stories about your nanna and her cooking ❤. If it wasn’t for nanna’s we’d be less inclined to cook some of these older recipes, I feel anyway. I could listen to you all day 😊
I'm definitely trying those. Could you do stotties please - proper ones. Honestly, I don't know what Greggs is thinking about with these being made so regional - you can't get them for love nor money apart from a few shops on a good day.
Mand this brought back a memory for me years ago when my 2 children were only 6 and 8 yrs old my husband had been played off work for the 4 or 5th time and times were hard so like you I also cooked and would make do and mend then one day I looked in the larder and all I had was 1/2 an onion some potatoes some corned beef an egg and obviously flour and I had never heard of hash browns of foodies but I had been speaking earlier to a nieghbour who told me her grandma was Hungarian so when I served them up with chips and beans for tea I was asked what were they called and I said quite casually o these are Hungarian pancakes 😂 and so my family still call them that today I also make them with bacon I have added cheese or what ever I had going spare they are delicious thanks for sharing xxx Elaine
Love these old British recipes, simple ingredients for tasty food. Not so sure a canal worker would go to the trouble of making these on the back of a shovel but if folklore says that was how it was done then who am i to argue with that 😃
Nana's and Gran's recipes are memorable. Sadly, my grandma died over sixty years ago, but her youngest-my dad-had enough nouse to whip her recipe books before his older brothers grabbed them. The strangest-named recipes are often excellent; most never truly weighed, but all are created with love. I had lunch with my gran on a Wednesday; she always made jam-streamed pudding. A bowl, a pot of water, jam and flour, some greaseproof paper and all on a coal range! She huffed and puffed her way about the kitchen and hardly ever used electrical appliances!... grandma's family came from Huddersfield... Nostalgia... I shall try Bacon Floddy's tonight...
A Jewish friend of mine pointed out that aside from the bacon, this could he a recipe for Latkes. I'll be making some floddies for myself soon. Thanks for the inspiration!
The crunch on that first bite..... Yummmmmmmmm
Don't apologise for mentioning your Nana. It's good to hear the stories. Also good to know the receipts are good old fashioned family receipies. It all adds the the charm, and authenticity. It makes your channel stand out. It's a good thing. 💜💜💜
Hi I'm 69 and I still miss my nan .... her legacy loads of love and shared knowledge ❤
My Nanna's & Great Nanna's recipes are some of the best. Ps - I'm 63 & believe we need to go back to basics especially in hard financial times.
Totally agree show kids how-to cook not just ping meals or macdonalds x
