Thanks for this matey patey. Something was bugging me with the end part of pulling it all together until I watched your lesson and now I've mastered it so many mny thanks for breaking it all down n explaining the process.
Excellent indeed. Have used the hook tyer in tha past but your tip about keeping the shank at an angle and ''holding'' the tag end is so helpful . 50 years ago a friend and I would have a competition to see who could hand tie a 20 behind our back.......long gone. LOL
I remember tying by hand in the 1980 size 30 hooks, had one of these but couldn’t grasp the technique. The single tip concerning shank position was worth the watch alone.
Just realised i have spent 50 yrs doing it wrong! LOL. If only angling times had been able to show this back in 1974, i would have landed a lot more fish in my life rather than looking at a pigs tail where the hook should be!. Thankyou, excellent video.
Having benefited from your figure-of-eight and repeatable loop size videos, I moved on to this one. After watching, I bought the Matchman tyer, some hooks and line & followed your excellent step by step guide. Now I can tie my own hook-lengths! Thank you! Chris.
I've tied my hooks by hand for years now, but it's getting a little fiddly as age creeps in. My hook tier tool is nearly as old as me, and I'm just starting to use it. This video is brilliant for me, so easy to tie a safe knot that won't lose a fish maybe costing me money. Thanks very much for your efforts.
It NEVER Ceases to Amaze me HOW many Knot tying tools are on the market. I still like the quick and simplistic " TIE FAST" , Stainless Steel tool, that's been around many years. My Second Favorite would be the " TAILKNOTTER", looks Like a FISH.
I haven't heard of either of those🤣🤣😂🤣, I have used these ones for over 20yrs, and they have been around for long before that. Suppose it doesn't matter what you use as long as it works😊👍
Sweet! Love it. Just bought one. We had one for years in our tackle stash from the early days when dad was still keen and he apparently used it a few times successfully. Always felt something was left unfinished though as I never really understood the tool. Had a good rummage for it in the garage loft tonight and sadly it appears to be long gone :( Even found our old bread punches so it must have been lost at some time (otherwise it would have been with the bread punches). Really cool to see you can still get them and even better to see it being used, thanks :)
Thank you very much for this video. I used the matchman hooktyer about 40 years ago with no problems. However 40 years later I have tried using it without success. This video has helped tremendously and the little tricks of shank back from the vertical is brilliant. So thank you again.
This video is amazing! I have been trying to spade ends for a while now, I've watched every video on RUclips and this one is the best! Concise and clear instructions! Thank you sooo much, looking forward to tieing loads of hooks now! Tight lines!
Great video it has changed how I will be tying my spade end hooks in the future, never seen the way you catch the tag end between the point and the shank brilliant thanks.
I’ve been tying my own spade hooks for years and was taught to pass the line down the shank, I’ve not really had a problem with this method but it’s made me think about the way you’ve tied it, whether it’s stronger and also which side my line is facing off the spade. You’ve give me some homework mate. 😅
Do mine slightly differently and even though I'm right handed I hold the tyer in my left. Some folks whip down the hook but I go up like you. When releasing the hook, grab it and pull to release the line from the sliding wire. If you pull the line above the spade you will get tiny kinks. I don't lean my back but the way I place the hook in the clamp and the way I start winding always makes the line come off the front of the spade.
That's a good point about grabbing the hook when releasing, I missed that on the video. I did several takes and I did mention that on some 🤦. It's only a problem on 0.10 diameter lines or less I find
@@AverageAngler you have inspired me to have a bash at uploading some info to help others, bit rough and ready off a phone but can only get better. ruclips.net/video/TOs4DBkj9SE/видео.html
That sounds like a good reason to make another video if you havent already. Also banded and haired versions. 👍 i have not come across anyone who has yet personally.
Yes I have used it for lines like that in the past, but you need to be very careful, not to overtighten the wraps or you end up with pig tailing on the line.
thanks best tip ever lean it back 60yrs later someone says this so now every time is off the front ty
Tha ks for watching

Glad it helped, and thanks for watching😊👍
The best and most informative way to use this type of knot tyer I have ever seen, thank you!
No problem thanks Chris, people do like this video😊👍
Brilliant bit of kit, had mine for over 40 years, I"ve since bought a second before they get discontinued. Good video.
Hope they don't discontinue them🤦😭😭
Definetly one of the better videos,.....lean the hook back...very good advice, thank you...
Thanks for watching and commenting😊👍
Great video that shift in camera angle made it so much easier to see how it's done thank you for the great help.
Thanks for watching😊👍

Hard enough to tie a 20 when your looking🤣🤣😂👍

@AverageAngler COPY that!, Even a plastic pen with a dremeled out slot, lol.

Really good video, explains in detail each step with additional info to ensure a really great hook hold. 👍👍

The line must come off the front of the spade or you will lose more fish. As for wehter its stronger I couldn't say for sure.
best video for tying spade ends i have seen
Thanks
Best tutorial on RUclips
Thanks, nice to hear😊👍
@@AverageAngler i meant to say keeping the hook vertical and slightly back and line between hook point and shank is absolutely genius 10/10
Good video. I’ve recently purchased an Evo Tier, it’s like a matchman on steroids. You can even tie hair rigs on spade end hooks with it.
Thats an excellent video accompanied by a very good explanation. Thank you so much.
Thank you 😊, tightlines
Used them for years brilliant tool wouldn't be without it🎣
Brilliant, just bought one and was flustered until now!! Thank you buddy. Subbed.
Thanks, hope the hook tying goes well😊👍
That's one of the best demos of that! 👍
Thanks, it took about 20 takes😂😂😂🤣
Super explanation! well done!!
Thanks Arnold😊👍
I wish I’d come here first! Nice vid
Glad you liked it, had a lot of good feedback about this video, thanks for watching 😊👍

Many thanks. I finally managed it!

Great video buddy.
Glad you liked it😊👍
A most excellent video.
😊👍
Can you use one of them for a D-rig?
Yes
That sounds like a good reason to make another video if you havent already. Also banded and haired versions.
👍 i have not come across anyone who has yet personally.
My brother has used them for 40 years
Sometimes the simple bits of equipment are the best😊👍
Quality very tidy👍👍👍
😊👍
Brilliant tool but they don't keep the hook tight after time is there anyway to help with this thanks 👍
I find you have to really crank it down
@AverageAngler it doesn't tighten it gets so tight then spins round again mate think I need a new one 👍
Sounds like the insert is slipping in the plastic, time for a new one😭😭🤦
Very thorough
😊👍
Hand in the way
With hands the size of mine they are always in the way😂🤣😂
Very good, just add a touch of saliva.
Didn't put saliva on for the video, it's a bit gross😂😂🤣, but yes saliva or lube essential👍
do you reckon the device would be ok for 0.06mm line to tiny 24 and 26 hooks?
Yes I have used it for lines like that in the past, but you need to be very careful, not to overtighten the wraps or you end up with pig tailing on the line.
I have tied 28 hooks to 0.6 line for years with no issues.Try doing this on the bank in winter by hand with cold, wet fingers!@@AverageAngler
