Thanks for this video Brad. I've seen a few about how to use one of these hook tiers, but all they have done is gone through the instructions and haven't shown the actual use of the thing properly. Your video shows it very well, also points out little things not told in the instruction; imperative to keep the line tight, let the tag end slip through fingers, use scissors in bend of hook to make sure winding is right up to the spade on the hook.
Thanks again Brad, I've now subscribed. Your channel is a valuable resource to someone relatively new to fishing. Regards David.

Hi Brad, glad to see you back. Only one complaint is that the close up views of your hook tyer video are slighly out of focus, making it difficult to see what is happening. other than that carry on doing a great job.

I fwatched the lot then followed it using my matchman tier and it worked great - thanks. What I would have liked as an add-on is how you would put a band on too. Could you do the same video but with a banded hook please?

@@Bradsanglingadventures Aww Brad that is so kind of you. I have recently retired and have purchased some new fishing gear. Just a quick question, I keep getting a bird's nest around my self casting spool. Any tips as how to prevent this? Thx bud Dr Paul

@@bigteno4597 I take your using a fixed spool reel and it’s possibly because there is too much line on the spool

Have you ever landed a fish? The line must ALWAYS come centrally off the front of the spade!

With the line coming from the back of the spade it will rub against the sharp edge of the spade and weaken the line, this will cause the line to eventually break. The line should always come from the front of the spade end, that's why 99% of spades are always angled to the back, even if only slightly. No one wants to lose a fish due to unnecessary line breakage, otherwise thanks for taking the time to make the video and uploading.

I have to disagree with you. I know the line should come off the inside of the spade but I've lost fish with doing this. If you tie a hook with the line coming off the inside, hook the hook as though it's through a fishes lip then get a jewelers loop and look at the angle the line runs over the spade. You will see the line will rub, I know the spade is angled in the same direction but it's not enough. If you tie it coming off the outside it won't touch the spade where it comes off once the hook is pulled in a fishes mouth. Just check it out, your be surprised. 😊

I don't use a hook tier, I tie mine by hand. Have a look at Andrew's Knots tying a spade end hook. It takes some practice to tie a hook like this but all of the wraps go over the tag end. I can tie a size 20 like this and I'm a pensioner 🙂. I still have the line coming off the wrong side of the spade.

Shouldn't the line come towards instead of away from the hook ....this aids with hooking the fish and it's how I've seen them when I've bought ready made hooklenths
However, good video as this hooktyer has had me baffled for years and now I can finally use it so Thanks a lot 👍

      Hi
      Thanks for getting in touch
Yes the line is supposed to come off the front
I will be making a new video on it but with things that have been going on ie COVID-19 and family issues I just haven’t got around to doing
But it’s on my list 😂
      Glad it helped you though
      Thanks
