Linda Raynier The way you explain Traits 2&5 is amazing. I was working on those already, but you made it easy and smooth to master those. I’m going to be Professional and gain more friends at the work environment at the same time. And I’m going to improve the way I influence my opinion to a group or to my boss. And all the traits are very useful. Thank you again.
8- be a top performer -look to help others all the time. -know how to prioritise -know difference between serious and professional -flexible and eager but no doormat. -execute more than your talk -say what needs to be said -get work done before deadline (get high quality) -avoid office gossiping -constantly update and gain knowledge/skills/training
05:12 - They look to help others...all the time. 06:40 - They know the difference between being ‘serious’ vs ‘professional’. 09:00 - They’re flexible and eager, but not doormats. 11:12 - They execute more than they talk. 12:10 - They only say what needs to be said. 14:18 - They get their work done before the deadline. 15:12 - They avoid office gossip. 16:11 - They constantly training and updating their knowledge and skills.
One thing that has helped me in the corporate world is when you have the opportunity to voice your opinion on an issue or rules... Dont just complain about it.. Instead voice your opinion respectfully and offer a solution in the same sentence. Not only do they realize you have a voice and not afraid to speak up, but you’re also a problem solver and managers LOVE THAT!!!!!
Not in the construction industry. All they care about is initial cost. You can make a reasonable suggestion and a great solution, but if it will cost a few dollars more they will dismiss it and you will be shunned for making such suggestions. Even if you show them how it will improve the company’s quality and reputation. I have shown the builder I work for a way to save money and keep us from looking like the cheapest company around, but because the money saved does not happen until after the possession of the home they do not care and constantly shoot the ideas down. Even though it will save them money in the long run. It is pure stupidity and stubbornness. And why many have left and I may be next.
There's definitely a plus for being a top performer, but you just can't beat a team of families and friends. They will always hire their people first. I've seen it first hand.
Excellent advice. In my experience, people who exhibit these characteristics do get promoted. And organizations look like they are staffed with clones. Everyone above a certain level has the same demeanor. Everyone below a certain level is an individual with a unique personality. If this comes naturally or you can act, you hit the jackpot. This makes me rethink even wanting a promotion.
Top Performer - Last year I did that and i went to an extent of offering education. And guess who got the promotions? The very 2 new employees i had educated. Sometimes one has to be careful not to be used
This is a huge challenge for me because I'm a naturally quiet person that would rather keep to myself more often than not. People genuinely like me, but I'm also not the kind of person that someone would want to emulate or invite out for a birthday. I don't have a choice other than to change, but it's honestly not fair. I like how I am, I like having a strong internal presence and choosing to speak with purpose rather than to put on a performance for others so that they feel entertained. I wish I could be like them, I really do.
Robin I totally agree with you. I am an introvert but have to play it nice and do all those small talks so I am being “seen” by others. The other thing is - this type of communication without purpose is draining me a lot and I am tired from it. But learned the hard way in previous job that I have to pretend to be social just to get where I want. Being simply hard working is not enough.
This helped me get promoted from sales representative where I was earning around 50k a year to sales manager where I make double that. I have been with the company for six years and I got the promotion just a month ago. The next promotion will be to director of sales which will double my current salary as sales manager, which I hope to achieve within three years at this rate.
I think you're right, people promote people they like and trust, and they typically trust people who remind them of themselves. But I do think it's possible to form relationships intentionally, even across differences.
my previous boss was too senior compared to my position and he left me in the hand of other underlings in the department. so getting any upward movement was very slow. in 2 years i expected to at least get $10k raise and a promotion with Jr. removed from my title. but it never happened. then layoff due to covid came and i was booted. when i started looking again i realized my last pay was 60% below market. i managed to quickly in few weeks get a job with 30% pay. i could wait for more but i would much rather be working.
1.they like talking to you 2.your nose is brown 3.you’re the boss’s relative 4.you’re naive to their shady tactics 5.you’re related to someone in upper management 6.everyone else is comfortable in their position 7.doing minimal amount of work 8.showing up barely on time Edit: number 8 is optional you don’t have to show up, you don’t have to call in either
Your manager sets the office tone. If your manager is toxic, look for another job. You will be miserable if you stay. The manager will promote others they like, no matter if you're the top performer, you will never get that promotion.
If management promotes people they like but can not do the job or don't have the way to get results. That management board is silly and about to crash really soon.
doesn matter how hard you work. dont get stuck with the wrong manager. by wrong i mean someone that’s wired differently than you. you can be a dream come true, but the wrong manager will use a race stallion to workthe land... because that’s the only way they know to use their resources. so run until you find a fitting culture, where people get you. thats it.
Hi Linda! I'm from Brasil and I really enjoy watching your tips! It's a great way for me to boost my carreer and improve my english. From this video, I've realized I'm on my way to be a top performer.. Just a few itens I need to improve, but that is ok, one day I'll get my promotion. Thank you! You are incredible =) Carla
Work smarter not harder. Be more reactive when tasks come in! Or take on tasks you know that haven't been done in a while to go out of your way of doing. That's what managers like the most.
Thank you. This video was, by far, the best piece of information that I needed. Thanks again. I did think the harder you work, the most likely you are to be promoted.
If you are too good in your current position, what motivation does the company have to promote you? You want to be good but not too good. Learn how to ask and fight for what you want. Also learn your value and don’t be afraid to move on if needs be. Good luck to all. This rat race is crazy out here.
I've enjoyed this video very much . I have an internal supervisor interview Tuesday.. your video has given me some amazing ideas on how to approach my interview. Thank you
Thank you so much Miss Linda! I'm not really after of the promotion (please don't get me wrong with that), but what you said taught me that things doesn't go the way I thought it was. I'm after of the learning, and you open my mind for understanding how "office environment'" should work. And things doesn't go in the same cycle. Every day is a learning process, hence don't be stock on the same ground. So, thank you so much, Miss Linda!
Really great points Linda thanks for sharing this. The mindset of working harder = promotion is such a misconception. The points you made all relate to your profile within the organisation. I have seen alot of people being promoted solely based on the time they take in promoting themselves to get promoted. They are seen and act the part before getting the part. If that makes sense. Thanks.
Linda, this is fantastic! And comes at the perfect time! I used your interview and salary negotiation techniques to get my dream job. And now I will use these techniques to develop the qualities of becoming a top performer. Thank you!!
All the people reading this comment..pls know it's very important to have a healthy relationship with boss and colleague..remember your boss can fire you in a second for anything if he/she doesn't like you. There's already much work pressure to worry about..so focud on relationship building. Help ur boss succeed.
It is very difficult to keep the balance at work with being professional but friendly & at the same time keeping the boundary , when you are with other people in a room for long period of time. And making sure there is no clash of personality. Sometime you just don't fit in the culture of the office. Also,in some organisation, it doesn't matter how hard you work, how helpful you are to others, if they want to pass you they do. Sometime they want to employ someone from outside.
nice one thank you! but for the speed or time to finish tasks is a case to case basis like in my job you wll get overworked if you finish the task twice as fast as everybody else because more work load will be loaded to you twice as fast which is not pretty good metric wise. Overall this video is excellent and helps me a lot!
Thank you so much for this! I was able to get promoted within a few months due to striving to reach each of these points. While yes, I’m quite late on this point, I’m very glad that you created this! Thank you so much!
I'm having a hard time for understanding the fact that this video has every second of it is as meaningful, important, educational as any other second. That you Linda, this is very helpful. The truth needs to be told yet its bitter. (work harder ==/- / promotion).
Hello Linda, great content and I am sure very helpful for many of us. Looks like I am good on my way following the 8 steps, just need some adjustments here and there. Your tips would work well in a "perfect world", so my question to you is "What about navigating your way through office politics?", how do you deal with that?
This is really mind blowing, Linda. Your channel is a blessing to me . I took a lot of clue from your videos before my promotion assessment and became successful. Now this particular video gets me feeling my next promotion is near. The tips are gonna be my 8 commandments in my new role. Good job, Linda
Hey Linda, I love watching all of your videos. Thank you so much for taking your time and helping all of us to succeed in our work and careers. You are a beautiful person inside and outside. Thank you once again for sharing all of your tips and information with us.
Linda, please make a video about how to speak out for yourself..I never know when the time is right..I was a doormat so I started to say no and give my oppinions (even negative oppinions) about everything and that haven't been good either..Thanks for your help
Thank you so much @Linda Raynier. I am a hard worker and a skilled person, I didn’t know what is it that I’m not doing to get promoted!! Sounds like there is a lot to do. Thanks again ♥️
👏 Wow. Thank you for this explanation. It helped me, in general, understand how to go about with my basic daily life as well. I will definitely watch this video multiple more times. 👍
Hi Linda, thanks for sharing and it really helpful. Just wanna share my thought here. I think in the world today particularly in job career, network and cabling is essential as well to upgraded yourself to be able to get promotion.
Linda, thank so much for your big job sharing this amazing information with so many detalis and with all the videos were you have put some many time, works, efforts, hopefully you can have a lot of luck and blessings in your life.

I agree....I just saw another video by someone who seemed pretty good with job advice but then advised that people use a positive trait when asked to tell a negative one and she used the tired, old example of "I'm such a perfectionist". I think employers must be getting so tired of hearing that one heheh. I like that you advised against it. I'm new here and really digging your videos. Great job:D
How to get a promotion // Which of the key traits are you going to develop to get your next promotion?

This video is truly fire. I love your insight about the difference between being a strong performer vs. being a top performer. Spot on.
This is a huge challenge for me because I'm a naturally quiet person that would rather keep to myself more often than not. People genuinely like me, but I'm also not the kind of person that someone would want to emulate or invite out for a birthday. I don't have a choice other than to change, but it's honestly not fair. You are so correct, all the individuals I have ever known that have catipolted with in an organization, had several, if not all of these traits.
1.they like talking to you
2.your nose is brown
3.you’re the boss’s relative
4.you’re naive to their shady tactics
5.you’re related to someone in upper management
6.everyone else is comfortable in their position
7.doing minimal amount of work
8.showing up barely on time
Edit: number 8 is optional you don’t have to show up, you don’t have to call in either

I'm in a different situation at the moment. I'm a supervisor and I want to ask the managers to considering promoting my assistant since she's been here for several years and I want to give her incentive to stay with us.
