    Gorgeous stuff. Once I discovered bootlegs I rarely concerned myself with regular albums. Bootlegs were so much more satisfying to own. They're so unique and valuable. I miss this gone-by era.

    Speaking of bootlegs containing shows you attended, I’ve been lucky. In 1982 I saw The Who at JFK stadium. Three weeks later on October 10th, I drove up to Brendan Byrne arena to see them again. A few years ago I found a great stereo soundboard recording on 2CDs of the Jersey show. Moreover, in 2002 I attended a Who show in Camden NJ on 7/27/02. I had first row tickets and the show was fantastic despite John’s absence. A few months later while at a record show, There on a dealer’s table was a DVD OF THE Who in Camden 2002. The thing was pro shot too .My wife and I were in the audience shots. That’s some real luck for a diehard Who fan.

      That is awesome and I can agree. There is a sort of thrill of having a bootleg of shows you were at. I also have a bunch. One highlight for me is a Kinks bootleg at Westbury Music Fair ( a fairly small venue) and at one point I yelled out a request for a song...and surely, you can hear it on the bootleg - kinda fun for me. I also have a Knack live at Carnegie Hall laserdisc and friends of mine were at the show near the front of the stage and can clearly be seen, but sadly I didn't go to that show. thanks for sharing and Happy Thanksgiving. You certainly are a serious Who fan.

    great video. I'm from Argentina and I was recently in the United States and Japan, and I was surprised by the amount of old bootlegs that were for sale (something that in other years of traveling I have seen much less, at least in record stores). Only once in my country I saw Who's Zoo on CD in the year 2000 and they asked for 100 dollars for it (the week after seeing it they had already sold it). last month I saw it on vinyl in two record shops (one in NY and other in Tokyo) around $50. The interesting thing for me about these studio bootlegs is that the mixes they officially released are not the same. If you are not a record fetish fan but a music fan, there is still valuable musical information there: raw mixes without effects, compressions or fades.

      Absolutely true - seems like bootlegs are everywhere now. Live radio shows are now "grey" market - semi legal and can be bought online. Long Island record stores and flea marketes have bootleg CD's for very cheap - I just bought a bunch for a dollar a piece at the flea market. I love bootlegs - unreleased stuff - both live and studio...NOT pirated CD's of officially released stuff - but yea for fans bootlegs are a goldmine.

    Seeing these bootlegs was a real treat. Gotta love the splatter vinyl. Never saw Robert Plant looking the way he did on cover of "Starting Over." (And I thought I had photos of all his looks back in the day.) I'm putting that LP at #1 on my list of bootlegs to check out, as per your recommendations.With regard to The Stones, I, too, have always really liked "Think I'm Going Mad," preferring it to "She Was Hot." (Not so unusual for me to like a B side more than an A side, when it comes to a variety of artists.) Always thought "Think I'm Going Mad" and "Waiting On A Friend" could be sister songs. Definitely want to hear Jagger singing "You Got The Silver," though it's always been one of my favorites of Keith's vocal work. Absolutely love the "Who's Zoo" art work. Glad you pointed out Al Stewart, who, despite having two platinum albums, never made as big a mark in America as he did in the U.K. Thanks for introducing me to all the bootlegs on your show.

      Thanks Rona as always for your comments. There’s so much great stuff in the stones bootleg archives. Even the recent Criss Cross is superior on the original bootlegs than the recent Goats Head Soup release. Check out a song called I Can See It. Good lost mid 60s Stones track. And also the Stones lost cover of Drift Away is fun. Another great Stones Bside is Through The Lonely Nights from Goats Head session which is strangely missing from the recent Goats release. Yes really like a lot of Al Stewart. Interesting to know his original rock back up band was a band called Home which featured Laurie Wisefield later of Wishbone Ash and Tina Turner. And Home also had Cliff Williams later of AC/DC. Thanks again.

    I would pick up bootlegs back in 80s mostly for Van Halen since that was my favorite band. I'd get a lot of them at Second Coming Records on Sullivan St in NYC just south of Washington Square Park. I still have some of The Who bootlegs I inherited from my brother had. One of them - Tales From The Who - is much like your Who's Zoo such a great example of the awesome work some of the bootleggers would put into their release back then. When I was a kid and saw my brother's copy of Tales From The Who I thought it was an actual official release.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 года назад +1

      I used to go to Second Coming Records back then for bootlegs too - they were legendary. They even used to advertise them in Trouser Press magazine. Then they got busted. Even made the news and newspapers. That was the end of Second Coming Records. There used to be so many great record stores in the West Village. All gone except for Generation Records and one other as well. On occasion I go to the city and go to Academy Records for cheap CD's, but prices have gone up. Also discovered a store called Book-off that has and endless supply of used CD's. Tales From The Who is an awesome bootleg, I have it on CD now. Thanks again.

      Thanks so much - very cool that you have a great collection of "classic" era vinyl boots. My Dylan vinyl boots are long gone, replaced by lots of bootleg CD's. My collection of Bootleg CD's is very large. When the bootleg CD's were better than the vinyl, I got rid of them (probably stupidly). Now I'm back to buying classic era vinyl boots again - lol. But the ones in this video are original from back then and I never got rid of those, nor will I. Thanks so much.

      The first TMOQ release was July, 1969 - Dylan's Great White Wonder. The last was in 1976 - Rolling Stones "L.A. Fog". I believe there were 132 official TMOQ releases. I've no idea of "new" releases, but I guess in the bootleg world someone could be using the label and releasing under it. But this is news to me. If anyone else knows, would be curious, but I cannot imagine the original Pigman would be doing this now...

      @@mikebarooshian7255 To my (and most fans) a bootleg is comprised of unreleased material - live concerts, unreleased outtakes, demos, unreleased songs. To me they're a fantastic addition to all the officially released material by an artist. And they don't cut into the sales of an artist, because fans who buy bootlegs buy the official albums as well. Pirated albums are "bootleg" releases of officially released material, which I'm almost always against for the obvious reasons. The only exceptions are titles that are out of print and haven't been re-released by the artist, so the only way to really buy them is the pirated version. #1 on my list is Buckingham Nicks which I have on pirated CD, but I've no guilt as Stevie Nicks refuses to official release it.
