Yes there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule (Toyota, Honda, Lexus etc) but also every new vehicle loses thousands of dollars in value in the first year. That's one reason leasing is becoming more popular. For my 2019 Tacoma I bought 4 months ago for $33k, it's now worth $28k-$30k and it hasn't even been on the road for long.

I took it to an inspection station when it had 232000 miles and they accidentally transposed the numbers are reported it has having 322000 miles. TFAY first of all, your typo in English didn’t give viewers some assurance for your English level. What is this, “ completley” ?! completely is the correct spelling!
      Second is your reading English level. What do you think “ odometer adjustment” actually meaning here? This word actually was shown in BOTH of the items as well, so don’t say “ completely” unrelated because this is one of the relation already.
      The odometer doesn’t need any assistance from any machine to change anything because there is no button (except a button to press down for clear out the “ mileage” of driving distance) on the odometer at all. If any machine like this video shown at 1:45 and 1:51, which means using OBD2 related plug, is the way they use it to “ adjust” the odometer, that is automatically illegal and against the law just like the video said already.
      Only scan is alright, but if the title of advertisement shows” adjustment” while it is not legal to, well...you guess it. Illegal dude!

The digital odometers take almost no time to change. They are easier to change than the mechanical. The serial interface is super easy to use with a terminal programme, a smartphone, and a Prolific USB to serial adaptor. I changed my odometer when I changed my instrument panel. Any local shop or online vendor that repairs instrument clusters can legally program the correct mileage on to the cluster, if the repair requires it. Case in point... when I bought my 2004 GMC Yukon years ago, the instrument cluster needed repair and the dealership replaced the complete assembly under warranty, but I was responsible for paying the labor to program it. What this video doesn't make clear is if the people rolling back odometers are also manipulating the vehicle's BCM or ECM as well. I am under the impression that one or both of these modules stores the mileage as well as the cluster. So if you change one but not the others then it is a good way to get caught.

    My '98 Suburban got rolled back about 90,000 miles, but I didn't find out until after the fact when I did a carfax report.
    I only paid $900 for the truck, so I wasn't too worried (also the person I bought it from wasn't responsible).
    It's currently sitting at 309,000 miles on the original engine and still running strong.

    My nephew worked at a Chrysler dealership that actually owed an odometer rollback device, it was his job to roll back to odometer on used cars that didn't have previous records that could be traced back, thus the dealer making bigger profits on some of the used cars being sold. My nephew didn't work there long as he didn't like doing their dirty tricks anymore and he quit after just a few weeks.

    I have found that Carfax does not report all accident claims VIN specific, in fact it would be in the governments worst interest to allow insurance companies report to a 3rd party company as these actions would only inform and benefit potential buyers. Inspect your used vehicles thoroughly.

    I know a dealer in my area that does this often. He sells his cars cheap though. I bought a car from a private party recently it said 134k miles but looking at the csr and from experience i knew it was over 200k. Then when i saw the title the dealer was the same guy i just talked about who basically rolls back most of the odometers of the cars he sells. I bought the car anyways cuz the engine and trans were great and it was a Toyota. I later checked the carfax and it said 260k miles LOL. Like come on man i dont mind if you roll it back like around 50k miles but 130k miles roll back is just too much .

    So here in my state when you buy a vehicle, the title Is presented to DMV, for registration with the sell/ purchased mileage recorded on it...so since the state/government require us for Personal ID info, proof of insurance, personal property taxing,etc., so would it seem logical for DMV, an government ran system could red flag any vehicle when entering the vin# where as the mileage shows a decline since last sell/purchase.Just a thought🤔

    Happened to me twice. I bought a caddy in Miami and they took over 100K off it. Only found out because the car ended being totalled about two months later. The Insurance company found out. Nobody could find that guy. Another time was a Chevy van in Maryland not far from Baltimore. Both times was from a road side used car business. The one in Maryland came with a carfax. No problems. When I went to sell the car THEN carfax branded it. Yea, big help carfax. They both ran fine and I had no problems with either of them.

      The mileage is supposed to reflect chassis mileage. You can't legally "reset" it for an engine change, but it is legal (at least in my area) to "correct" used parts such as an instrument cluster to display the actual chassis mileage of the vehicle they're being installed into.

    • @Cyrix2k
      @Cyrix2k 4 года назад

      Depends on the car. BMW, for instance, does store the mileage in more than one ECU which makes them more difficult to "roll back." Additionally the chip that stores the mileage in the cluster generally can't be reprogrammed without physical access to the chip itself so it is much more difficult to do than what is shown in this video. It can still be done but requires a significant amount of technical knowledge and to some extent, equipment.

    I think the easiest way is to have in mind an average use of a car at the day by day basis and calculate. In a year in my country people drive 12000 km per year. Multiply it by years of your cars age and you have a pretty good idea of what the car has been through.

  • @alejandrocolon4846
    @alejandrocolon4846 4 года назад

    This doesn’t work in New York every year you must do an emissions inspection and your odometer reading has to be inputted after they scan your registration can get around

  • @michael1294
    @michael1294 2 года назад

    Here in va we have our cars inspected yearly and they report the mileage. If it was to be less during an inspection it will show as an issue in carfax. These tools are good because if you replace your cluster you need to be able to adjust the mileage to the correct number. Maybe all states just need a yearly mileage check to keep this from happening.
