In Texas, odometer fraud is punishable by fines and even imprisonment. To prevent falling victim to odometer fraud, it is recommended to have a trusted mechanic inspect the vehicle and obtain a vehicle history report before making a purchase. A mechanic can help you find signs of odometer fraud.

That is the most gh@#o$ looking Charger I have seen! That paint job alone should have been a flag! It looked like a trashy car right out of a trailer park!! Why would he buy that car and not even run a CarFax? Who in this day and age does NOT run a CarFax or at least some other form of VIN check??

Car fax does not disclose everything. I bought a car about 13 years ago that I checked on car fax. It came back clean with 56k miles. The previous two owners showed 37k and 19k miles. Seemed like a good deal. So I bought it. Then it started having problems. So I took it to a trusted mechanic who told me the vehicle must have been rolled back because everything looked like a car that had over 300,000 miles and it was a salvage vehicle. The chassis, body and engine were from three different years. The seats were from yet another year. I paid $5000 for the vehicle which was supposed to be 10 years old but the only thing that was 10 years old was the vin number. There were parts on that car that went back 15 years. He told me that to make it work and be safe to drive would cost $18,000. He came recommended by my brother who is a mechanic but lives in another state. I took it to two other mechanics who all told me about the same thing.

I'm actually local in north west florida. I'd be interested in talking on the subject over zoom or something. I repair instrument clusters. I get requests for this all the time

@@dmorrow6883 Vehicle history reports are how you catch it. I have personally never programmed a freightliner FS65 but if they are programmable over OBD2 or have a Debug port on the cluster you would never know without pulling the history report. Some boards you have to pull the EEprom or Flash memory of it and program it out of circuit. those you might be able to see the solder work.

@@dmorrow6883 oh like the old wheel ones? they probably just swapped the whole cluster out due to being faulty or something. Either way seems low mileage for a bus with either mileage. Not saying that in be suspicious way just saying under 200k miles on something that would be on the road 5 days a weeks during the school year.

@@dmorrow6883 so law is pretty clear. Odometer exemption for titling is not odometer exemption to allow fraud. Knowingly selling a vehicle with an incorrect odometer is odometer fraud if you do not disclose it.

@@dmorrow6883 I think best plan of action would be to wait and see what the lawyer says. Maybe reach out to a 2nd lawyer if you think the first one isn't taking in serious.
Did you let the auctioneer know that you contacted a lawyer?

@@dmorrow6883 so that would would probably put it at 175k or so with them only putting a few k on each year. still a low milage bus but yeah they should have disclosed it.

Takes less than an hour to swap a HUD, especially on older cars. I'm sure there's other ways to do it as well.

Some of the newer cars if you swap the the instrument cluster it won't start others the milage is stored on the bcm not the cluster. Most guys that do this crap are using cheap tools from China you plug into obd2 port and you change the milage in 2 mins. Some of the tools are as cheap as $80
