    THIS IS SO EXCELLENT! This is THE video to watch about flat panel/plain knitting on the Addi. I had struggled and struggled, watched innumerable videos, and was about to give up and then came across this video. All problems solved! Kudos to you, Calumet Knits, for such a clear, concise approach, helpful visuals, and super pacing - slow enough so we can get it, but not so slow that we lose interest. I would write more, but I'm off to make flat panels to make my first Addi sweater for a special three-year-old!

      What to to keep the stiches in the needle because on knitting the second row many of the stiches are droped. How can prevent dropping of stiches

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  2 года назад

      @@josephinewambui5219 Are you dropping stitches on the ends or the middle of the row? If the ends, they you need to push stitches down on the needle and pull the slack from the ends. If it's the middle your tension isn't right. Start by using a yarn that works well so you get the hang of creating flat panels. Then you can change to other yarns that may be more difficult to work with.

    I am still saving up for a knitting machine, but I have a question about the stops. I sometimes get distracted and I can see myself having wavery edges because sometimes I go to far. In circular mode, can you use the stops to prevent that? Or do they only work in panel mode? It seems that it wouldn’t be necessary for the stops in panel mode because you would have the black needles to remind you. Are they only use for narrow panels. I’m sorry, but I’m just so confused since I haven’t used one yet. I’m trying to visualize how it works. Your tutorials are great. It’s just that I’m confused on this one point. I was a hand knitter (arthritis☹️) and this is really exciting for beanies and things. But maybe I’m just not smart enough ha ha 🤪

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  Год назад

      I don't use the "panel" mode. I just turn back and forth wherever I want. Yes, the Addi stops will work without being in panel mode. You can put them on any needle. I like to center my panels over the black needles so the counter works. So you can put a stop at each end. You could also put a piece of painters tape instead of the stoppers for a visual stop. Once you get a machine, you can also send me an email if you get stuck on project.

    Hi Mary. A tutorial request. I want to make VERTICALLY striped beanies. My result only made a beanie for a very small child. On a Sentro 48, I knitted a TUBE, 64 rows, alternating red and white, 8 rows each section. Cast off, and folded so that stripes appeared vertically. Sewed up the seam and cinched the top. Looks fine but way too small. So I found your excellent video on color changes in panel mode, and thought the LENGTH needed for a larger hat may work. Would you do a video on making a vertically-striped hat, but for an adult? Thanks!

      Yes, you can. You can make a flat panel from 1-43 stitches. Using 22 needles will be close to using a 22n machine. (You may need 23 needles because you will have to seam the edges together if you want a tube.)

      I took the yarn out of the guide a little early but those last 2-3 needles did get knit with the working yarn (manually placed under the hooks). You want to knit all the stitches, take the yarn out of the guide, and then continue past the last needle. You want the last need to drop down all the way before changing direction. I hope this answers your question.

      Curling edges are natural for the stockinette stitch (both hand knitting and machine knitting). To avoid curling, you need to manipulate some of the stitches to purl stitches. For the side edges, you can create a couple columns of purl stitches and that will help flatten out the edges. I would suggest, k,p,k,p,k......k,p,k,p,k; you may need a 3rd column on each side. For the cast on and bind off edges, you can do one row knit, next row purl, for 3-4 sets; or create a ribbing on both ends. Check out Yay for Yarn's tutorial. ruclips.net/video/riVvIDGsV0M/видео.html
