@SpaceAce100 the dd 2 stroke engines have no intake valves, but they do have exhaust valves . Intake air comes into the cylinder near the bottom of the stroke the out the exhaust valves in the head.
I’ve never been a trucker, but I grew up working on small blocks with my dad. Watching stuff like this warms my heart. I know a carburetor is outdated, but man there’s nothing like driving something with one the smell and everything.
I watch these videos of the people trying to start their detroits and they're taking forever to start up.My started up all the time right off the back home.Of course I was using it everyday
Man where did you guys even find this gem. Ive been looking for a Kenny with a 12v71 jimmy for years and I just cant find one, let alone one thats work ready. Very nice truck glad to see another one still alive and working
I used to drive a Detroit on my weekend job many many years ago...kinda fun but really glad it was not my everyday job...I still hear it in my sleep almost 50 years later! LOL Glad you have it, looking forward to seeing it when you finish working on it.
That is the Golden anniversary Kenworth w900. I had one in the 90s but it had a 903 in it. Love the old KWs . Starting to rebuild a 70 W900 with the 12v71. Love the sound it's music to the ears 👂 😌.
Yes the sound and power will blow your mind, grossing around 120,00 + lbs with a set of 2- 20 ft containers, on trailers, you will never forget the sound and power.
Thanks so very much for sharing that with us! The first Diesel engine I worked on was a 8V-71 Detroit two-stroke. I have loved them every since that day! Very nice truck!
Gotta love the sound of that Detroit! Thay was when those motors could breathe, not like today's castrated stuff. Last, but certainly not least, driver knew how to shift really smoothly! Great memories of float shifting back in the day!
I used to run a Euc TS-24 pan with the 12V in the front and a 6_71 in the back and an old R-35 rock truck with the 12V and they are STRONG engines. he exhaust system was gone on the 35 and you could hear it for a WHILE! Just hold it to the floor and let the Allison do the walking after you start moving the shifter. You got a FINE rig right there as long as that smooth driver stays in it. Thanks and GBWYall!
Those Dayton wheels get me every time, they look so perfect on the older trucks. A turbo sure would be neat to see on the buzzin duzzin, love your rig brother. 🇺🇸👍
I ran across a guy that ran a truck shop with a 9K GMC with a double turbo 12V in it. Had two 6V-71T exhaust manifolds and a turbo on each one. 733 horses to the ground and it was SWEET. The 9000 were some of the sweetest trucks made. Of course that was a long nose.
@@lewiemcneely9143... LEWIE!!!..... How are ya? Still have the same ph. no. ending in 9*9*?? Talk to me. J. It's Been a while!... to say the least!! Thankful that I just happened to look to see what the reply was to "Deborah chesser's" comment.
Awesome buy Jake. Refreshing seeing y'alls old equipment with all the space shuttles on the roads now. Many a night people have thought some hotrod was ripping by in the distance, but it was probably just an old Detroit at 2600 rpm. Love the old 2 strokes- there's nothing cooler but a 6+4 or 5+4 paired with one.
An old driving instructor once told me the best way to drive a Detroit is to first slam your hand in the door. Then you have the right attitude to drive one.
Great sounding Detroit. That's somewhat uncommon to see an older KW, spec'd out with the 12V71 and Dayton wheels (and I'm assuming spring suspension), that isn't a log truck.
There is no torque rise in a Detroit, like a Cat or Cummins, so rpm's are where the power is. Back in the Mid 70's the Ontario 500 Truck Stop in SoCal had lines of these all chromed out. Cummins Kt450's, and Cat 3208 v8's. Like a giant custom truck show every weekend.
Man, that 12V sounds healthy! Just from the quick view of the sides, it doesn't look like it has any major leaks. A set of twin 'hair dryers' would be a plus for heavy hauling (like for the Case 150 if necessary). I really like the lines of the 70s KW's.😁👍
Drove an old Detroit powered dump truck. It was a torque monster. Going up hill overloaded ( of course) it would be screaming away shaking vibrating then you realize it hardly moving. You could walk faster lol. We had a problem of spinning the hubs on the Dayton's and shearing the valves. These were only old site trucks so we welded lug nuts to the wheels on both sides of the valves to trap the wheels against the hubs. Could have 1000x20 and 11r22.5 mixed on the hubs what ever had the most tread. Never get away with that crap now.
Great video! There is an Oliver collector around me that has his Peterbilt painted to match his 4 digits. Meadow green main body and clover white roof and fenders. Its a great look pulling into the show. That would be a good look for you guys too... Paint it to match the Deere's you'll be hauling.
Who needs to listen to the radio when u can listen to a dozen buzzin from the buzzin dozen i know i could listen to that all day And come home and smile while the wife complains cuz all i can here is a ringing sound over an hour later haha
@@RennerStockFarms I'd leave the mufflers on it so you can stand to drive it. And use it. I had strait pipes on mine but that only lasted a year until it drives you nuts. It's cool for a truck show but that's about it.

My dad used to have a few trucks with detroits in them. My uncle always said detroits were like a few of the girls around, they make a lot of noise in town but when you get them out in the country they just dont put out. lol
First truck I drove was a power liner (freightliner) cabover with 12V71 dual turbos with 5x4 "sticks". Never enjoyed the job as much when they were gone.
What an apt name for a V12 Detroit, those do love to mark their territory, man when yer hauling to Rantaul with the 2 big repower on a trailer that'll be allot of cylinders on the road.
@@RennerStockFarms dam straight! Love the old iron! Back when you could fix things with a screwdriver and crescent wrench!!!!! Keep up the great work buddy!
That’s literally my ideal “dream” truck except I’d want walking beam suspension instead of 4 leaf. Other than that it checks all the boxes, 12v71N with Jakes, wet kit, 44 rears and a 13 speed.
One of the best sounding engines ever made. I’d be lying if I said I’m not jealous.
Same. Few trucks that nice left here in the east.
And you would not like to sit in it all day every day,the noise would drive you insane, i know, i have one!!!!!
Wish calif, could be that way !
Yes i got a silver 8v92 2 stroke and shes doing good with XD-100

Mine too!
That sir is the creme de la creme....a 12V is the ultimate sound of symphony
I recently became obsessed with watching videos of these old trucks.
This not only sounds beautiful it sounds like it has been taken care of!
OH the memories these sounds bring back.. I had a 74 PETE with a 12v71, Twin turbos switzer 600 . I had straight pipes on mine.
2 stroke detroit and dayton wheels,
Works of art.
I couldn’t agree more!
That’s an awesome truck. Jake looked stoked driving it. Nothing like the sound of the “Buzzin Dozen”.
Very unique, jake loves it!
Takes me back to when trucking was fun. Thanks for the trip down memory lane
5 miles to the gallon of fuel. I drove lots of them in the 70's. I drove the 1st. Powerliner. 600 horse twin turbo V12 Never got passed!
What transmission was behind it?
That sounds ds sooooo good 👍 music to my ears
Dude , I had to watch this a second time . AWESOME .... I bet she pulls like a Monster .
All the new trucks you can't hear them.I love my old Detroit. You can hear that monster under the hood
12V71 Non Turbo . Beautiful old Truck . And what a Symphony .
They will never be allowed to build a free air breathing monster like that again! I Loved hearing that monster roaring!
