- This is the 2009 teaser trailer for Tron Legacy, assembled from the proof of concept video for TR2N, directed by Joseph Kosinski, which was shown in Hall H at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con after the Race to Witch Mountain panel.

14 years on and I will never tire of seeing this, this movie ignited my 10 year old self's love for cinema. Praying that this jared leto one isnt a complete failure
I love this proof-of-concept video! Even though I have seen the movie, I never tire of re-watching this video as there are SO many details that one can miss. To me it is really a work of art created by some very talented craftspeople. Even the sound effects are worthy of note (e.g. the sound of the leather suit being dragged along the "glass" roadway). A real treat!
You're not missing anything. There is more story and depth here than the full movie had in two hours of run time.
@@cugamer8862 wrong. You should stop smoking weed buddy. The movie had more stuff more depth more content and more elements to enjoy. The teaser is just a teaser. Leave it at that. The light cycle sequence in the film is trillion times better with daft punk music in the back
This motion picture was so good for so many reasons. We get to see Clue and Finn young again. The girl is amazing. The concept is brilliant. The music is spectacular. The motorcycles are sofaking RAD. It is a niche project. I am all about niche projects and this checks a lot of boxes for me. I may go so far to say it is boarding on being a musical.
Every detail here is perfect. Even the sound of the bikes hitting the floor is heavy and substantial, like a car door closing on a really expensive car.
Its funny because this trailer hinted at a lot more than people noticed. The green worn by Clu was a subtle, yet clever, hint at his turning. In the original story you see Clu is blue, while in the film he is yellow. The green is actually a subtle transition between the colors as Clu's programming is slowly corrupted into what he becomes. Thus the colors mixing before the dominant yellow takes over.

Even if this is test footage, the sequence with the materializing bike looks incredible!
Saw the first Tron yesterday. Despite some outdated effects it blew my damn mind with it's advanced level for it's time. It was waaaaaay ahead. Can't wait to see the sequel. i really like the occasional Sin City -ish lighting/shadow they had going on in the original. Hope to see some more of it
Great... now i'm nostalgic for a trailer/movie i once watched while being nostalgic for the original movie. What is up with time that it runs as fast as these bicycles here...

I love how the cycles are practically Syd Meads original concept fully realized.
He couldn't use his original designs, because of budgetary and technological limitations.
The bikes used in the original movie were like his 5th choice.
But now, the skies the limit.
Again, this is going to be amazing.
Legacy 3d IMAX was definitely the way to see this movie, designed for this format for sure. Loads of fun.
I feel like this is how the movie should have been, dark, moody, mysterious, unsettling, enigmatic, and somehow threatening. Not all kid friendly, the action scenes in the movie were so tame. Mood wise, I feel like this is how the movie should have been.
Just like TMNT, but making things family friendly casts a wider net for audience pull.
Sadly Hollowood bastardizes a lot of IPs like this.

@@chromplex no I was just using TMNT as an example of when hollywood does this. I wouldnt say Tron Legacy was all that childish or silly. It was just lackluster.

Yeah, I do think Legacy leaned a little bit too heavy into the supplemental media, namely the tie-in games, to explain what happened in the twenty-eight years between the Tron movies.
It was sort of a weird, quasi soft-reboot-but-not-really thing, it tried appealing to everybody but ended up stumbling a bit.
I'm impartial because I watched it right after 82, years after the fact. Made the bump less jarring to me.
23 years old and absolutely loved the original. Been watching it every once in a while for as long as I can remember. I can't wait for this one.
I'm also shocked that in the approx 70 people that I talk to I'm the only one who's ever heard of Tron and that ranges from 15 year olds to 89 year olds.

Tripped so hard on mushrooms to this in the Imax. The visuals were incredible and i thought the movie was amazing. Wasn't the same on dvd it looked fake and silly but i still dig the movie. 👍👌

Though I think this trailer is false advertisement - in that it wasn't shown in the film -TRON LEGACY was definitely one of Disney's best live-action films in years.... a very worthy sequel to the epic original, and it does actually deliver the trailer's hype.
True. And this intro definitely fits the film, but I tend to respect films more when what you see is what you get the whole way through - from the first leaks to the final credits.
It wasn't meant to be a trailer, it's just a proof of concept vfx reel.
@JaybayJay I'm glad you asked. I don't know if you remember from the original Tron, when a program was injured or felt weak, the circuits on their body would start to dim and like the lose water within a straw, it will have gaps between the follow, and not as constant. When Quorra (Olivia Wilde) was injured (her left arm severed) in Tron: Legacy, the circuits were still full and seemingly flowing in constant. That was one detail in my opinion they completely forgot to touch on.

Can't wait for this movie. I'm only 20 myself and am probably one of the few in the younger generation who even remember or have watched the first movie.
This will certainly win the Oscar for best visual effects.
The music from these Tron Trailers reminds me of Mass Effect. Seeing as how Mass Effect's sound-track was inspired by 1980's sci-fi, I guess that makes perfect sense... I like it.
This reminds me of my time as a child, building wooden clocks.

The first TRON comes, when i was a child, at 1983. Remember. At that year the C64 comes to the public, as personal computer. TRON made full of computer rendered graphics. Even it looks "suck" for the today "eyes", but at that time that was the king. I hope the new one will brings unique things too.

it's about a kid who's father went missing. Later in his life his dad's friend, tells him that he got a call, from his dad's arcade, the number has been disconnected. The son go checks it out, and ends up entering another world called Tron, which is a computer program, and finds out his father is in this world, and created this tron world. So he goes and finds his father (which is the guy in the window). The idea of Tron is that the computer is trying to kill you...
can't wait, i remember when i saw the original in theaters. back then, those special effects were spectacular. lol
According to the Tron Wiki: Green is military, yellow is for hacker/tracer, blue believes in the user. Red does not believe in the user and white is anything else and also could mean neutral. But in many cases white is ISO's and users.
Teaser was actually better than the movie itself.
So glad Jeff Bridges is in this one too :)

It's his identity disc. Watch the first movie to learn more, but basically it's like a personal data storage unit for that particular program (or "person" in this case).
This is the greatest Disney sequel ever!!

Personally, the style of this "test" trailer looks way cooler than the trailers of the actual Tron Legacy movie. The simplicity of this trailer matches better with the '82 original.
I used to watch the first one all the fucking time as a kid. Can't wait for this one. Can't believe people are proud because they "discovered this in Kingdom Hearts." I miss my childhood.

I'm 20, and i was recently shocked to find out that i was the only one of my friends who had even heard of the first tron, let alone seen it!
I'm looking forward to it immensely. Now technology can do the concept justice!
@chrisandmac All we know is that Flynn's been living in the game world for the past 25 years. The film makers said that this scene most probably won't be used in the movie, and that it was designed just to be a teaser trailer using the light cycles.
I am seeing this for the sole purpose of hearing new Daft Punk music. Can't wait.
wow this movie actually looks kick ass. i heard of this from a guy that i met in a book store that goes to a con i live near. boy am i glad i took his advice and looked this up. definately watching this

Watched it. Spectacular and mind blowing CGI and special effects. A visual feast.
Good timing on this movie. CG has really finally got to the point that is believable. And Olivia Wilde... very nice.

I fucking HATE how people are saying "the new CGI will ruin the originality of the movie.... for god sakes people, this is 2010. They are not going to revert back to the old Tron CGI. I think this movie will be incredible. I Recently just saw tron, and frankly i was amazed by it. i took into account that the graphics they had in that movie were the most amazzing graphics developed in the 80's. I myself cant wait for the release and Im looking forward to the new CGI
to all those idiots saying the graphics look shit, they're not there exactly how they intended them, tron is a cult classic sci fi movie from the 80's which was one if not the first fully cgi movie, this gives the fans of the original movie a nostalgic feel that is lacking in so many hollywood remakes, and to be honest, even if i didn't know about this movie and the reasons behind it, i'de still say those are nice crisp graphics.
TRON guy will take a fit when watching this in 3d

No Tron was the first full CG film. Star Trek II used modeling that was partially CG rendered as opposed to Tron who's modeling constructs were only computer based. In addition to that no one claimed that there was no CG in films prior to Tron. Every film involving CG is hand drawn. These hand drawing were done on computers though qualifying it as a fully CG film.
This is was what Tron was meant to be. But they didn't have all the graphics back in the 80s.
Just saw the Tron Lightbike Scene from the 1980's version. This one looks tight! I was incredibly impressed by the quality of the vid from the '80's, too! I didn't know they were developed that much in computer animation at that point! REALLY great! I actually want to see this! Ha ha

The actual nature of the story and world of this series still bewilders me. I've never seen the original, and I think it's actually impressive that, as pervasive as this intellectual property is, and although I have worked in the computer games industry for 10 years, I still have no idea what actually happens in this Tron world. Haha!
The art style is very interesting, and although it seems to have informed so much of the kind of post-modern art styles, it hasn't really been copied directly!
Please oh please Joseph K. {director} don't let the movie suck. It would be a shame if this scene were scrapped to the cutting room floor. Very dramatic and can't wait to f*cking see this movie.

The key words here are: "for its time"
This is the beginning of a revolution in filmmaking, and Walt would have been glad to see it happen. He always wanted Disney to have a sort of "dark side", to not be squeaky clean.
@vaiol123 the reason why it looks better in the movie is because this trailer was a sort of "treat" to those at comic con, disney wanted to see if people liked tron and a reboot, they did so they ended up making the movie.
i just watched and it was pretty epic. i hate how people assume that because its from disney, its gona be bad. it was a pretty good movie.

For those of you that don't get it! This is not a remake of Tron. It's Tron upgraded! What Tron might be like years and years later. Think of it as what computers and programs where like 20 years ago versus what they are now. It would be pretty stupid to just remake Tron over again, this is more like a continuation of the story years later.
This is going to be 2,415 times more bad ass!

the trailer actually came out before the movie...maybe like 9 months before if I recall correctly...It's just a teaser trailer which means they were surveying whether enough people were interested in watching a second Tron production.
