Good for you dark skin was the first and only skin complexion for a long time on earth remember it’s an inferiority complex if societies put you down for because you are not light which let’s be real is you don’t have white skin. If you are light that does not end the racism you can experience yet people go to the beech sun bathe spend lots of money on sun beds to have darker skin but still are racist to black skin because they feel inferior, so they project there feelings of inferiority and jealousy onto you so they feel temporarily less insecure.

As a filipino, i’ve been to Philippines for 3 times now & you will almost never see an African tourist anywhere. I only saw 2 in Palawan recently. & besides, we even have a festival called ati atihan & filipinos are racist while denying that an ancient tribe in Boracay were all dark skinned

Before, Irish and Italians weren't considered "white" in the American society plus most of them are Catholics and America was heavily protestant and anti-Catholic. Indio was a racial slur used by the Spaniards to dark skinned people. It literally means "Indian" also, this term came later on in the Philippines, the native Americans were the first one to be labelled by this after they were mistaken as Indians due to their skin.

Honestly, I thought racism against black or darker skinned people didnt exist here in the Philippines because I never noticed someone get ridiculed and looked down for being black; darker colored people are cool and friendly, same with people with any other color. However, the video did make me realize that people do subtly ridicule dark skinned people especially in the beauty industry. We do sometimes joke that our darker colored friend blends in with the dark, but at the end of the day we just had friendly banter and we see him as a very cool friend and he does sometimes initiates the joke.
Regardles of skin color, we should not let it be the complete definition of what makes someone Filipino. There are Filipinoes who are lighter skin than the Filipinoes who live in other countries, but culture wise they are more Filipino since they keep their culture in tact. Appearance is not everything, sometimes the darker skinned Filipinos know nothing about the Philippines due to being born outside of the Philippines.

I am half white & half filipino and i have noticed so many times how whitewashed most filipinos are, it all comes from the spanish & american colonization there was for centuries a culture where lighter skinned people were more favored than their darker brothers & sisters. .. It's very sad because this brainwashed whitewash mentality still exists to this day. I live in Europe where the majority is white, and almost everyone recognizes my long dark hair, my tan skin & full lips. i was always called an indian "Native-American" or simply the indigenous of the thoroughbred or fullblooded europeans here. But the nice thing about it is that here in Europe this is seen as beautiful & interesting, in contrast to the Philippines or Latin American countries, that's how i experience it myself in life. I still often have this tedious problem when I see Filipino relatives, but especially my own mother, who always says I shouldn't be outside in the sun for so long in the summer, because she thought that my skin would be too dark, and then that people here in europe will be racist to me, and then she always says that the more successful people are always the light skinned ones... Really sad how this brainwashing destroys our true pride & identity... I am proud of my filipino indigenous roots, and to all indigenous ethnic groups & tribes of the philippines' Igorot / Aeta / Negrito / Lumad / etc. and also to our cousins overseas the Native americans from north to south & the pacific islanders. My relatives used to call me ita when I was a kid because I am dark. Sometimes they referred to me as "matanggewan" - meaning, "kailangang mailawan"
If you were called Aeta when you were growing up you have Aeta roots. I also have Aeta roots.

I used to hate the color of my skin. Since I was a kid people call me black when I’m literally “brown”. At a young age I was taught in using whitening soaps and lotions to lighten up my skin. As I matured and learned and value the true identity of a Filipino, I embraced the “Filipino Melanin” I was born in. Ngl but filipino skin color is to die for 😏

Indio was a racial slur used by the Spaniards to dark skinned people. It literally means "Indian" also, this term came later on in the Philippines, the native Americans were the first one to be labelled by this after they were mistaken as Indians due to their skin.

Honestly, I thought racism against black or darker skinned people didnt exist here in the Philippines because I never noticed someone get ridiculed and looked down for being black; darker colored people are cool and friendly, same with people with any other color. However, the video did make me realize that people do subtly ridicule dark skinned people especially in the beauty industry. We do sometimes joke that our darker colored friend blends in with the dark, but at the end of the day we just had friendly banter and we see him as a very cool friend and he does sometimes initiates the joke.

Regardles of skin color, we should not let it be the complete definition of what makes someone Filipino. There are Filipinoes who are lighter skin than the Filipinoes who live in other countries, but culture wise they are more Filipino since they keep their culture in tact. Appearance is not everything, sometimes the darker skinned Filipinos know nothing about the Philippines due to being born outside of the Philippines.
Skin color being a definition of a race is an American influence. Most Filipinos these days decided to jump into the issue of skin color which the black Americans started. Our issue is mostly about colorism but you don't see any dark-skinned Filipino getting murdered or arrested because of their skin color unlike in America. I am half white & half filipino and i have noticed so many times how whitewashed most filipinos are, it all comes from the spanish & american colonization there was for centuries a culture where lighter skinned people were more favored than their darker brothers & sisters. .. It's very sad because this brainwashed whitewash mentality still exists to this day. I live in Europe where the majority is white, and almost everyone recognizes my long dark hair, my tan skin & full lips. i was always called an indian "Native-American" or simply the indigenous of the thoroughbred or fullblooded europeans here. But the nice thing about it is that here in Europe this is seen as beautiful & interesting, in contrast to the Philippines or Latin American countries, that's how i experience it myself in life. I still often have this tedious problem when I see Filipino relatives, but especially my own mother, who always says I shouldn't be outside in the sun for so long in the summer, because she thought that my skin would be too dark, and then that people here in europe will be racist to me, and then she always says that the more successful people are always the light skinned ones... Really sad how this brainwashing destroys our true pride & identity... My Fililpino mom hated it so much when I teased her on having a flat nose. But she's also the same person that ridicules my dark skin and taught me the idea of beauty, "light skin, tall nose, etc." I'm a grown-up now, I don't do that anymore.
