As you collect more instruments, the Ballad you play for the egg builds up - this video shows how the song evolves from two instruments up to all eight.
I've had a soft spot for this song even in the game boy games with its limited sounds... hearing all the versions again brings back fond memories and made me tear up a little... thanks for the upload, i don't know why i haven't tried that myself ^^"
Something about the three instrument version hits different, makes it feel a bit more melancholy than with just the melody or with the full Harmony rhythm
@@highdefinition450 I suppose it was a send off to the island, a celebration of the times spent there, yet even with all the instruments I still felt really melancholy. So personally, I think it's perfect.

I feel bad that link had to do a whole extra dungeon because the cellist and the horn-player couldn't agree that one of them should do both verses and the other should just take a personal day.
Link's Awakening ending was bittersweet whereas Majora's Mask had an ending with a bunch of sweet and sad conclusions in it (like how the Deku father found the remains of what is assumed to be his lost son but then you have everyone celebrating the wedding that's about to take place). Still ya gotta love how they handled everything in both games since it gives them a special place within the LoZ franchise, that said it honestly makes me excited for what both HW:AoC and BotW2 will have in store considering the grim conclusion of the former and the supposedly "much darker than Majora's Mask" is planned for the latter.
Idk botw is pretty sad. Link loses all of his memories and when he regains them realizes almost everyone he knew is now dead along with a lot of hyrules population. Nust wonder through the world of breath of the wild is sad seeing all the abandoned homes that a hundred years ago housed families.
@@alesbianhotmess botw isn't as in-your-face about it. In Link's Awakening, we literally have to watch all of the friends we made essentially die. Majoras mask has this theme of death and finality hanging over it the whole time, and we're told once we leave Termina, it ceases to exist. Botw is more melancholy background sadness by comparison
I wonder why no "band"has ever played this song with the actual instruments used in game... I know some have come kind of close... P.s. I still think the last "secret" I instrument should have been Marin... at least on the switch they could have added vocals...
It was only one guy, but more than about 10 years ago a channel called mysteryguitarman had a cover of this song using each instrument, with him playing each one in its own screen at the same time effectively making it a band cover. I used to listen to it almost daily back then, but seems like he removed it since then
With the drums being the last instrument, it makes me think of that quote: "You forgot the ONE THING about writing a catchy song! Its gotta have a BEAT." -Benson from Regular Show

@@stripedrajang3571 it should add a melodic harmony, not percussive backing. Don’t open that can of worms. Pianos have hammers inside that strike the wires, is that a drum too?

As a very young and persistent kid in the 90s it took me what seemed like several years to beat this game with my sister. During that time, the omnipresent Wind Fish egg was a constant source of curiosity. What could be inside? Every time I received a new instrument I would come back to the peak to perform the balad.
Aren't there technically even more varients if you get some of them out of order? Like by leaving dungeon 7 early after getting the mirror shield, and then doing dungeon 8 first, for example.
I used to do this in the OG, returning to the Egg after every instrument get, even kept a save file for when I did get that last instrument so I could return and listen. Edit: Also, I just want to say, how much of a flex it is on the nightmares to keep coming back to show off that you have another instrument. lol
Come to think of it. Surely there’s a glitchy way to get the Ocarina before the second dungeon (bottle grotto). So does that mean there’s a variant with only the violin?
You need the bracelet so ylu could technically go there before but to poay the song you need the Ocarina which yiu onoy cab reach with the pegasus boots
It would be a fun Easter Egg for Marin to sing along with the instruments if she is following Link at the time.

Yea the latter ones make it sound kinda cheerful, which is not really what a ballad should sound like I think lol
And Marin has the audacity to say not very good

Para que sonara más a una balada hubiera Sido bueno que el órgano y el arpa funcionarán como melodía (como la concha y el violencello)

And worse now I know the harp and the marimba were doubling parts. Poor link.
This and Majora's mask are probably the saddest zelda games.

Check out the 2018 Zelda Orchestra Concert. Among other songs, there's a Link's Awakening Medley in it.

I’m pretty sure there’s a guy
Agreed, I thought about that while playing the game. It would have been so interesting and to be honest...way better than a triangle.
It was only one guy, but more than about 10 years ago a channel called mysteryguitarman had a cover of this song using each instrument, with him playing each one in its own screen at the same time effectively making it a band cover. It’s funny that the Ghost doesn’t care. He’s just like take me back to my house on the Bay! You can wake the Wind Fish up later your self!
The first 2 instruments are valuable but I really like the background ones my favorites are the harp and thunder drum
Alexander Reyes I like the Wind Marimba and the Organ Of Evening Calm
I like the Full Moon Chello, Sea Lily Bell, Surf Harp, and the Organ of Evening Calm (maybe even the Conch Horn and Wind Marimba too)
Keon See Nice
Mine is the triangle and thunder drum
organ of evening calm and conch horn are my favorite
I think it would’ve been a nice addition if they added in someway to make Marin sing the ballad with you.
In the original version, 5 instruments were my favourite.
Hard to decide on this version of the game... but possibly 3 instruments...
With the drums being the last instrument, it makes me think of that quote: "You forgot the ONE THING about writing a catchy song! Its gotta have a BEAT." -Benson from Regular Show
There's a skip that happens in the middle of every variant.
maugos when you record a clip on switch, it’s very short. The song takes two clips to be fully recorded. There is just a little time in between.
It would be stupid to use that function instead of a regular capture card
where do you get a free capture card, then?
This song hurts more than you'll know.
I appreciate this upload. I used to return to the egg in the gameboy version just to hear how it sounded each time.
I was wondering why no one has recorded this, but you actually made it. =p
I had some troubles with RUclips not showing me what I was searching for. x)
Probably because of copyrights
I didn't even know u could do this
You can even do it in the original. I remember trying this all the time back in the day
I don’t like how they make the marimba act like a drum set. Makes the whole thing sound like Kirby music.
Which would make it a good thing, yes?
@@stripedrajang3571 observe the second word of my comment and infer my opinion from that
@@dodiswatchbobobo, but I don't get it, if a marimba set can't be treated like a drum set, then, how should it be treated like, pray tell?

I never understood why they cut the Wind Marimba entirely out of the final ensamble.
Me neither, but that was not cool. It makes me want to recreate the Ballad of the Wind Fish ensemble properly.

I like the 6 instruments variation.
there was a version of balld with all the instruments and the girl humming and it got deleted i cant find it anywhere now

ost disk i think
Thanks for this

Probably, but I assume this is "canon order" or things don't trigger until after completion.
Ive always been curious of the other variants but no one has done it, for example, how would it sound with only the cello?

lol Marin telling Link he’s bad at playing instruments.

i think 3 instruments is the best one, the harp makes it sound a little weird.
I kinda like the harp to be honest

Come to think of it. Surely there’s a glitchy way to get the Ocarina before the second dungeon (bottle grotto). So does that mean there’s a variant with only the violin?
Maybe when getting the item but not finishing the boss? I don't know if the frog prince interacts with you without completing the dungeon.
Every version without the organ is good.
Does this mean that you can't reach Mount Tamaranch until you and Link get the Conch Horn?
You need the bracelet so ylu could technically go there before but to poay the song you need the Ocarina which yiu onoy cab reach with the pegasus boots
So you can only get the Ocarina after you complete Bottle Grotto?
Well I don't know...
I think you could go to D3 earlier...
Not only with glitches...
But I don't know...
What?! Bottle Grotto is the second dungeon in Link's Awakening!
Yes IK
You only need the item to get to the next dungeon
A shame that recordings made on the Switch can't be long enough to capture the entire song and you had to splice them
